MVFC/Summit Conference: closest school to UND is 81 miles away. Big Sky Conference: closest school to UND is 807 miles away. In my opinion, it's obvious where UND belongs. Since UND has been in the Big Sky Conference (since 2012), football and MBB have 1 combined conference championship; thus, conference dominance shouldn't factor into this. UND needs to do big things (and should) in the Summit/MVFC and win the BSC in the interim.

I love the move, mainly for personal travel reasons. I love to follow UND athletics in person, if possible. Keep up the good work, President Kennedy. Also, props to Bubba Schweigert for knowing where UND belongs.
-
Makes complete sense. Hope Ott maintains his commitment to UND, where championships are the future.

UND has won big conference games at home before, but can they turn the corner and win big games on the road or a neutral floor? @hoops44, when UND defeats Weber State or Montana in Ogden, Missoula, or Reno, then UND will especially be on to something. I do not want to take away from tonight's great win for UND's coaches and players, but your "calling others out" posts, @hoops44, are a bit too premature for my liking.

The "frozen tundra" was a balmy 35 degrees Fahrenheit tonight. Maybe global warming will help out UND basketball with recruiting ........................
-
Same to you. I hope UND plays well this evening.
-
You really are going with that argument? Frank "math" doesnt tell the whole story. Had UND made more free throws than NDSU attempted, especially early in the game, the game would've been played far different down the stretch. NDSU extended the lead late in the game while UND was trying to catchup- completely different style of basketball when UND was trying to play "catchup". UND dug themselves into a hole. And I didn't say the poor free throw shooting was on the staff, so that's you hearing voices.
-
Did you see the game against NDSU in Grand Forks? That performance cannot be overlooked, even if UND has come around since then; UND lost a game and a chance to sweep NDSU with that performance at the charity stripe.
-
Yes. You know when NDSU plays EWU but not UND? Interesting. UND plays EWU in the regular season finale at the Alerus Center.
-
You are right in terms of the long-term prognosis, but this news won't do anything but hurt Eastern Washington in the short-term (2017 season), although the degree of interruption remains to be seen. EWU also has to replace a fair amount of on-the-field talent. If they weren't before, UND should now definitely be the Big Sky Conference favorite in 2017! Go UND!

UND (4-1, 9-6) @ Montana (4-1, 9-9) 1/14 8 PM

That's the motto of the Jones' era. Wonderful times for UND men's basketball ... Always close, but no cigar. It's just time for a change at the end of the season. -
... and he's said they "want kids that have seen snow before" (i.e. local recruits who are appreciative and prideful of UND's tradition and vision).
-
More the reason to focus on Midwest recruits! Win with the locals (including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc.)!
-
Mussman - as HC - was horrible for UND football and he will forever be linked to UND football's DI transition and initial FCS seasons as such. It is what it is. Thank God for Bubba.

Wow - how poetic; I couldn't have said it better myself. Right now, UND men's basketball leaves a lot to be desired. -

Disgusting, but hey, according to hoops44, it's just being "smart". -
It was 17-0 at one point - NDSU was lucky to even make it a game. Also, NDSU was a coin flip away from losing several other games; Charleston Southern, Eastern Washington, Iowa, and Northern Iowa are some that come to mind. UND was close to winning a playoff game as they led 24-7 in the third quarter but they choked and need to get better. Same goes for NDSU; they aren't "best team" caliber anymore and they need to improve to get there again. Face reality.
-
That's pure speculation and I'm not buying it. UND played CAA opponents Stony Brook and Richmond real close. UND needs to improve in several areas in order to compete for a national title, which should be the expectation around here, but to say they have a ways to go isn't entirely accurate, in my opinion. UND just went 9-3, won their conference, and return the majority of the team and all the coaching staff. Title aspirations in 2017.

Flecks's "MAC and cheese" classes were better than many BIG 10 classes, including Minnesota's. Not to mention, Fleck used those recruits to beat Big 10 teams, such as Northwestern and Illinois, and narrowly lost to top 10 Wisconsin. I guess all I am trying to say is I think this Fleck character is going to do some damage to the Big 10 at Minnesota whether we like it or not. It will stiffen up recruiting for UND and NDSU, too.
-
Interesting guy; he has the potential to build Minnesota into something respectable at the least -- don't forget Minnesota just went 9-4 and Fleck can recruit really well.
-
I am worried about FBS offers coming in. With that said, there is a good chance Griebel stays loyal to UND considering their longtime recruitment of him (it pays off to be consistent and sincere in recruiting). I think Griebel and McKinney will both bring a much-needed speed element to the UND offense for years to come; couple that with the young receivers (Toivonen and Wanzek), tightends Cloyd and Pinke, and tailbacks John, Brady, and James and you have a ton of skill position talent. Offensive line and quarterback play is an area of needed improvement, though, and my eyes will be largely on those spots in 2017 spring ball and 2017 season. Bubba indirectly stated this also during end of season press conference: UND offense can take next offensive step with better quarterback and offensive line play.
-
This has to be it. Most of us have known Jones can't coach winning basketball or rally the troops, so to speak, for some time now, but finally the contract year aspect of this whole fiasco will allow for much-needed new UND MBB leadership.

Reyes will almost certainly get a tryout at the minimum. He's already had scouts looking at him quite closely.
