I have nothing to lose with my prediction just as UND has nothing to lose going out to Seattle and playing aggressive football. I’m not putting any money down on this. I just ask that UND play their hearts out for 60 minutes. The coaches need to have some balls out there also. Ketteringham has an arm - use it. Rudolph has a brain - use it. UND 28 Washington 24

Get out of here. A game that is meaningless? WRONG. The experience the players get from this game will carry through for the rest of their careers! Which environment is more intimidating: Husky Stadium or the FargoDome? If UND plays Washington close or wins, is it meaningless then? That momentum could carry through for the remainder of the season. After all that, you probably will still be correct in that UND will lose by a lot. But that doesn't make you realistic or a football expert; it makes you someone who takes the easy way out. I want UND football under Bubba to challenge expectations and look to exceed the status quo. The status quo, if that is what UND fans truly expect, is the easy way out and won't lead UND to the playoffs anytime soon. The status quo is not favorable for UND football - people outside of UND don't expect UND to be FCS playoff material this season or anytime soon. UND (including us fans) need to challenge that.

I disagree. UND is FCS. Washington is top 10 FBS and hung with a top 10 Auburn team in basically a road game; Washington is expecting to blow UND out by 50+. With that said, UND still needs to play a very smart, physical football game to prevent a blowout from happening. Washington, with the homefield advantage, is definitely talented enough to get away with overlooking UND if UND doesn’t play a clean game.

In the game of football, there’s alway a chance. As a UND fan, I’m sticking with UND, even if they are big underdogs. As I’ve said before, I expect effort-filled football for 60 minutes from UND and to then see what the results may be. I’ll be hoping for a win and living with whatever the results end up being. The team needs to approach it the same way. Win or lose, get better from the opportunity and use it the rest of the season. All “UND fans” on here should be speaking more towards their hopes for a win rather than playing Nostradamus by trying to predict scores.

Great opportunity against Washington for UND football. UND needs to use it to learn how to handle noise and a hostile environment so they can turn around and whip the Ag U buffaloes in 2019 at the FargoDome. UND handled the FargoDome environment pathetically back in 2015. Go Fighting Hawks!!

UND hard at preperation to put forth the very best effort and focus against a very good Washington Huskies team.

Absolutely. A heavy pressure philosophy is a two edged sword. Schmidt is now on the sideline this year with hope he can better instruct. Cover 3 and man zone combos (cover 2 with man under) need to be called more often. The heavy blitz zero coverage calls are fine but need to be called more sparingly. Might be a tough pill for Bubba and Schmidt to swallow; they love to live and die by the blitz.
-
And the worst corners can’t cover for more than about 0.5 seconds. UND’s corners need to and should improve, but will it be enough? Pressuring the passer obviously is huge and helps immensely.

Hey Sensitive94, calm down and move on. They are bad (obviously based on first game), but I never said they couldn’t improve.
-
That would be the jackass U consensus even if UND won 100 to nothing. Conjecture means nothing. Although bad, MVSU won’t be the worst FCS team this season; guarantee it.
-
I agree. This year, compared to last year’s team, the outside expectations are lower for UND football though. The internal expectations need to be the same: play to win the game regardless of opponent.
-
Hey asshat, what if UND is not on a 2 game losing streak?

If people want UND to be a playoff team, these are the games that UND needs to go into with a tough minded attitude and mindset. Sure, you are all right that UND will likely lose by a lot, but if you screw up how the message is sent to the team, you could see a negative effect the rest of the season. Get out there, buckle up the chin strap, and play 60 minutes of physical, effort-filled UND football. If UND loses by 50, so be it, but to “give up” before halftime is just stupid. It would send the wrong message. Even though the odds are way against UND, they still better play to win the game. There’s a reason the games are still played and not just ran through modern software prediction programs. Anything different than playing to win is the mindset of an analytical loser and not an aggressive winner. I know which category I want UND’s football program to be in under Bubba. Yes, it’s very easy for the players to enter this game knowing they likely will lose, but if that’s all they are thinking about then Bubba has lost the goal/direction of the team. Play to win every game and let the chips fall where they may.

As mentioned before, UND’s corners are just plain bad. Definitely an area that needs improvement in both recruiting and development.
-
Basically a home game for Auburn. Over 90% of fans are Auburn fans. Tough environment for Washington. Next week Washington will have the home field advantage. Browning has made mistakes thus far, attributable to pressure. Only somewhat questionable weak spot so far for Washington is their offensive line, but I think Auburn is really just showing off their talented SEC defensive linemen. UND will need to get pressure with some combination of front 4 like Auburn is. Tall, tall task of course.

Bad attendance for 1st game: < 10k that’s what 3-8 season does to a program/fan base cant have any more of those or chopping block time ultimately agree it’s all about winning but the added amenities are definitely an upgrade

I’ve slept on it and now can comment: Underwhelming performance but a win. Ultimately UND looked worse than I had hoped. The players and coaches have to do better; more work to do. Positives: QB play was a quite good. Ketteringham is an upgrade over Studsrud. He has a better deep ball and is composed in the pocket. He also just looks the part. Happy with this position which is huge (most important position in sports). UND Pass rush was getting after MVSU all night. With that said, MVSU’s Oline was pathetic. Negative rushing yards and multiple false starts. Garrett Maag is the real deal. Great potential career for him at UND. New wrinkles in offense: throwing to TE, all three backs on field at same time, more plays to Santiago in space, bubble screens, deep shots; the game was called well by Rudolph. Negatives: The fumbles by Oliveira were unacceptable. Can’t turn the ball over. Have to finish in the red zone! Should’ve scored at least 14 more points! To make matters worse, the field goal unit left points out there on the field! Leach looked poor ... DAMN! That will hurt UND Pass defense was unacceptable ... again. This will continue to be UND’s Achilles heel unless they can tighten it up. MVSU shouldn’t be able to pass up and down the field like they did. Cant drop interceptions! Damn! kickoff coverage and kick depth was poor All in all, I would give UND a C - grade for this game; Below average but pass because they won. Washington game likely to be ugly. Have to hope UND plays way better and Washington completely overlooks UND also. Not going to overlook the next game to week 3. Have to take it one game at a time. Improve this week and get after it versus one of the best In the country.

I can see where you’re coming from and it’s a very fair point. I know some of those who have complained regarding DiLorenzo and those folks happen to be far more problematic than DiLorenzo himself. Even so, DiLorenzo has competence issues.
-
Bears and whales ... CLASSIC! Hopefully a hawk or two also ... Go UND
-
Agree with both parts. DiLorenzo is a Kelley administration holdover who should’ve received the boot a while ago. I hope it’s actually coming now.

I can respond when someone, in reference to me, says: “Well at least he gave us a preemptive warning, as if he needed to do that for us to know that he would be ripping on people for taking away positives. I am sure the coaches are hinged on every one of his ultimatums.” At this juncture with the improvements the UND staff has made to the roster why would anyone even consider 1) UND plays MVSU remotely close and 2) that I would rip on UND for doing well and appropriately crushing MVSU. @tnt has me all wrong and I’m expressing that.
-
You in with the MVSU is a playoff team group? My Lord people on here are sensitive. You also probably believe UND football players should get participation trophies for just suiting up. What I said was and is not wrong: UND needs to blow out Mississippi Valley State.
