Under Mussman, UND played at Idaho in both 2010 and 2011. Both were blowout losses for UND.
-
0 sacks tells the story there. Defense didn't get enough pressure on third down.

When it comes to the crowd, the students will come only with consistent winning, but, even with that, it is not guarenteed as evidenced around the country. One major action that can be done with this situation immediately is moving the student section. The size/amount of seats can stay the same, just allow the paying season ticket holders to sit from the 30 to the 30. It would be more practical (has to be moved in postseason anyways) and aesthetically appealing (tv broadcast faces that direction).

I'm afraid a simple defensive front switch wouldn't fix the defense's ability. Nice easy way of thinking of things, though. Whether you have 3 down linemen or 4, it still comes down to leverage and winning against the guy in front of you. Don't get caught up in the details before the fundamentals.

Spot on!! UND consistently wins only when they win in the trenches. Against Weber State, UND couldn't consistently run the ball nor stop the run. As a result, Weber scored 35 points and UND's offense only scored 13. Quite fortunate the game was as close as it was, really.

Lose the gray period. I hate that look. Green jerseys with white pants need to be worn far more often ... But yes, green jersey and green pants is a fine true alternate look. The gray is just ... meh!

The move should happen soon. Would improve all aspects.

That’s not what we’re discussing. The photo brought into question clearly showed the student section. The tv broadcast also shows the student section empty for all to see in disgust. We all know that the seats on the UND sideline are consistently full - that’s not the issue or the topic at all.

I don’t know about your magic ball but I know UND deserves to be in at 8-3 and not at 7-4. UND needs to win the next three games, two of which are on the road; that’s not easy or a guarantee by any stretch. On to Idaho. Would be nice to see UND crush them in the Kibbie Dome after the whipping they gave Mussman’s teams in 2010 and 2011.

I agree the defense needed to play way better, particularly based on Weber’s Offensive stats coming into this game. Anytime a Bubba/Schmidt led defense has 0 sacks, things probably didn’t go as planned. But let’s not let the offense off the hook. They needed to play way better also. They only scored 3 points in the entire second half! That is not a recipe for success either. Quite frankly, I chalk the loss up to UND again playing a poor second half and it cost them this game. Weber came out and took the game in the 2nd half like a winning program does.

What you are seeing is the student section. It needs to be moved immediately to the 20 yard line, not the 50 yard line. It would need to be moved in postseason anyways. It looks pathetic empty like that. Don’t buy the Las Vegas game excuse because what you’re seeing empty is the student section. Paying fans/season ticket holders deserve the 50 yard line seats on both sides. It’s the way it is around the country in DI football.

Weber is a damn good ball club. They deserve their ranking. UND had a chance today but couldn’t make enough plays in the 2nd half. It’s on both offense and defense. Jay Hill is a good coach. Weber State out-schemed UND today.

Big game, big opportunity. This is the most physical team Bubba as head coach has had at UND. That’s perfect for how he wants to play football and UND needs to take advantage. Huge potential this season. Go Hawks!

Exactly. Glad you can see it.

UND 24 Weber State 17

Need to be aggressive on special teams. It’s equally as important as offense and defense but oftentimes gets overlooked. Weber State is very solid on special teams and it could be the difference in the game. Weber’s head coach Jay Hill is former special teams coordinator at University of Utah. Huge week for Kostich and his unit.
-
With both Izzy Adeoti and John Santiago out, UND offense loses a lot of speed this week. Important that UND is really, and I mean really, physical this week with the o-line and Oliveira and Johannesson. Would love to see a big play over the top with Wanzek, Maag, McKinney, or even Cloyd on a play-action shot. Have to keep up the aggressiveness we saw from the team against Montana. #4 team coming to the Alerus Center. Huge game, huge opportunity. UND needs to be aggressive and take this one.

Grading players’ ability requires assessment of both positives/strengths and negatives/weaknesses. Personal criticsm is never appropriate, but there’s no reason criticism of playing ability can’t occur. These are scholarship DI athletes we are talking about that are used to competing 24/7. If someone feels someone else is better than them, that should be competition they embrace rather than fear. Unwarranted criticism is inappropriate but let’s not be overly sensitive either when someone makes a negative/weakness observation.

How many wins did Barry Sanders’ teams collect? Not enough. I absolutely don’t want to disrespect Santiago because he’s a great player and well respected, but physical football is winning football. What Oliveira and J.J. offer is winning football. The exciting big plays of Santiago are fun from a fans perspective, but punishing opposing defenses with a physical running game will better fuel this team. It will better compliment the defense and even get the o-line in a better rhythm with physical run blocking. My vote is for the “if it ain’t by broke, don’t fix it” option. Keep feeding Oliveira and J.J.

Solid move by UND. Go Hawks!

I agree. Perhaps not popular among some, but this is the truth. Santiago, as some did predict, is better suited for a flex role at both RB and WR. His shiftiness in the open field is always a positive thing for UND. Now with Izzy Adeoti perhaps missing some time ... Oliveira and J.J. are definitely the two best RBs on the roster and they are damn good. KEEP FEEDING THE BALL TO THEM BETWEEN THE TACKLES, AND ALONG WITH THE SOLID DEFENSIVE PLAY, UND WILL HAVE A CONTINUED FORMULA FOR SUCCESS THIS SEASON.

My God, so embarrassing. This continues to happen over and over again. Someone should lose their job.

Damn. Get healthy, Tobin. Go Hawks!
