  1. Well, in that scenario, UND would have had their first DI FCS playoff win. That definitely would be a positive in recruiting and would help the program grow. Rather, we all know what happened and has been happening.
  2. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4537046-ex-und-standouts-now-turn-their-attention-pro-game I’m very happy to see UND finally working on their own pro day. This needs to happen for UND football to grow its own reputation as a serious DI football program, and not just a formality for a DI athletics department. QUOTE: UND hasn't held a pro day in recent history. Last year, Reyes attended a pro day at Northwestern. Others have gone to pro days at Minnesota and North Dakota State. Agnew wants that to change. He wants one in Grand Forks in March. "That's a goal," Agnew said. "We're trying to get that done. We have the indoor (practice facility) and we have the prospects."
  3. It is a fair point. Let’s hope the receivers that are recruited in the future are more athletic and capable. They also need to be used better than they have been. Hopefully Rudolph was somehow the common denominator in the poor receiver play ...
  4. I agree with you and, as such, I am not "up in arms". We said the same thing using different words. If the job listing is not posted by now, then it is not a "true" external hiring process. It is what it is. Also, there is no prior history of this arrangement, so we obviously have to wait and see how this all plays out with Freund as OC.
  5. Good Point. Everything is based on hope this offseason. Previously there has been successful past seasons (2016), unique injury issues (2017), and favorable schedules, etc. Now the future of UND football lies partially on unproven commodities. Not necessarily a bad thing just something that is perhaps more angst-provoking.
  6. In the context of recruiting, I hope Freund can at least let the recruits know who the OL and WR coaches will likely be. Those coaching positions being unofficially filled soon - even possibly before signing day - does have some level of importance. You all can debate as far as to what degree.

    2018 Season

The screen to Oliveira was ran twice. First was a very successful play (10+ yards) and the other was incomplete but well set up. It needed to be ran way more throughout the season. Inexcusable. Lastly, there was no bubble screens, tunnel screens, tailback swing passes, play-action TE crosses, or up-tempo ran throughout the NAU game.
  8. Conspiracy theories? You just rephrased and reposted exactly what I said. “Hand-picked” selections by Bubba and Freund. vs. Danny has few people in mind and he’s in contact with them. The “various state hiring laws” aren’t particularly relevant to the actual selection. They are relevant to officially hiring someone.
  9. Coaching movement is currently still happening across the country. It’s just more difficult to coordinate now with December signing day. I wouldn’t doubt Bubba and Freund already have their choices heavily narrowed down by now. Hopefully they’re quality selections (not true “candidates” or “applicants”).

    2018 Season

Don’t be brainwashed by Rudolph. There are more ways than just the “jet sweep” to get talented athletes the ball in space. Santiago and McKinney both we’re not used in the passing game (screens, shallow crosses, etc.) or tempo running game at all. What a shame.
  11. It appears it won’t be anything close to a true external hiring process. I expect “hand-picked” selections from Bubba and Freund. Along with the Freund promotion, we’ll see if this strategy actually ends up being good or bad as time goes along ...
  12. In other words, NDSU will win easily. I agree with you. I sure wish UND would get to the point where they consistently win easily. UND has yet to get to the point where they can even consistently win the games they are favored to win.

    2018 Season

Really? You don’t say ... What was he paying attention to these past 5 years, then? He’s supposed to be the HEAD coach. Let’s hope he actually learns from this.
  14. Weston to WR coach certainly has potential. Let’s see.
  15. Beautiful nostalgia.
  16. Another reason to hate those arrogant assholes.
  17. I just want enough points to win games. Pure spread or not, it’ll likely be an improvement over Rudolph’s archaic !@#$. Expect some spread tempo with all the associated concepts.
  18. That’s how UND is going to score points and win games next year. Spread it around and let the boys make plays. Definite improvement over the system Rudolph ran.
  19. My preference was an outside hire. UND has been average at best during the time Freund has been an assistant coach at UND. Still hoping for external hires at OL and WR coach. Now that Freund has been hired, let’s move forward and hope for the best. Or do you expect me to hope my alma mater loses every game? Of course not.
  20. It’s not about just the run game, it’s about the offense as a whole and scoring enough points to win, obviously.
  21. I’d argue the issues (principally poor QB coaching and play) became apparent game 1. Mississippi Valley State - horrible FCS team in the Alerus Center and UND struggles to score 35 points, most of which came in the first half which started a horrible trend of second half lack-of-production for the entire season. UND needed to put up way more than 35 against MVSU. Against Washington the following week, UND’s defense had them in the game allowing only 17 points in the first 3 quarters. Yet, the offense couldn’t gain momentum. The offense simplistically handed the ball off to Santiago over and over again, which, although it padded his stat line, never allowed for quality UND QB play which would’ve got UND in the game and actually worried Washington about an upset. The UND offense followed suit the rest of the season. This is why I love what Freund is at least saying early on. If the starting QB never gets into a rhythm and gains momentum, it doesn’t matter how many good running-backs you have. Without a purely dominant offensive line, which UND clearly doesn’t have yet, offensive production runs through the rhythm of the QB. Whether it’s Ketteringham, Zimmerman, Boltman, or someone else, the UND offense in ‘19 needs to do whatever necessary to bring momentum back to the QB spot. Love the idea of tempo, quick perimeter passes, and an increased volume of deep shots. Despite common perception, tempo and perimeter passes will actually open up the middle for nice runs by Johannesson and Weah. Looking forward to it.
  22. I hope it's a win-win. I expect it to definitely be a more entertaining brand of offensive football, but I also hope that it equates to more points and more wins. In addition to QB play, also depends on how the offensive line develops. Next big hire?
  23. If I recall correctly ... I'm sure @shep is going to really miss Paul Rudolph's (aka Uncle Paul's) beautiful offense ...
  24. Points - not TOP - and wins will bring in the crowd. I expect points with Freund. Go UND!
  25. Complex in the huddle, simplistic on the field. Was not a good combination for the UND offense. Given what UND currently has for players, the scheme that Freund is going to is perfect for UND. I think it’s the right move and we’ll see points.
