  1. OK, ugly question to follow but I'll ask it anyway.

I'll set it up first with, we already have a RB (who played FB in HS) who was a LB here but converted back to offense.

We're down to Bartles, Hanson, and Studsrud.

If Hanson's not good enough for a game we shouldn't be calling him a QB and giving him QB reps in practice.

I do not want to pull a red shirt with four weeks left, so no, Studsrud is out of the picture until spring ball in my mind.

Is there someone else on the roster who played QB in HS who could run a few snaps. (Normally one of the safeties or WRs played QB in HS.)

I think the only players who played QB in High school were Harris, Tillman and Idowu. I doubt any of them would be options due to their defensive obligations. I thought someone on here said Ivery was the emergency backup. Not sure what truth there is to that though.

  2. Just to be clear, it is Keaton Studsrud, not Stensrud.........

And my opinion is you keep his shirt on and roll with Bartels and Hanson.

At any rate I hope I don't have to learn his name until next year.
  3. What are they going to do? Start Hanson?

If this scenario of both Bartles and Mollberg are out, then yes. I would hate to see them pull a red shirt off a kid for a start or two on a wasted season.
  4. Hadn't heard Bartels was hurt. Joe is done for season. Would hate to have to pull redshirt on Stensrud for season with no hope for playoffs. I would play Hanson in games where outcome is decided to protect Bartels.

Absolutely agree that they shouldn't pull the red shirt off Stensrud. I'd really hate to see that happen.
  5. I think this kid spells his last name differently from the Perrone family who used to live in Grand Forks, so I have no idea what, if any connection to the area he may have. I agree that it would be unusual for UND to be recruiting a kid from that part of the country without some sort of local connection.

Vito Perrone was a dean at UND for many years: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/17/us/vito-perrone-sr-who-fought-standardized-tests-dies-at-78.html?_r=0

Yep, that's the guy I was referring to and you're correct they spell the name differently. So that throws that theory out the window. Not sure exactly how they ended up recruiting this kid. Would love to see him come here.

  6. Huge mistake if they move now. Not saying in the future it wouldn't be a good idea. It needs to be the right situation and the right time for the move. Moving up just to move up would be a horrible idea. Their transition from D-II to FCS was succesful because of timing. They were the first to go and got a jump on everyone else and was able to pick up some great regional talent cause of the terrible job Brewster was doing in recruiting. They slid into a conference that fit them perfectly. Not that it wasn't rough the first couple years. The Coach obviously had a lot to do with it as well. If they left and then failed it would be horrible for the program.

  7. The top of the SEC is scary but why wouldn't NDSU compete with anyone in the B12 or B10. Heck K State, TCU, MI State, not too scary. All 3 are 1 loss teams with a shot if they run the table, according to the experts. Great defense and a ball control running game would allow you to compete. Outside of Ala, MS, MS St, Florida St, Auburn . . . an NDSU type of team could compete.

Wow this "playoff" is a sham, needs to be expanded. If it happened today is would be SEC 3, ACC 1, and everyone else out.

Would an FCS playoff made up of 4 teams from 2 FCS conferences be a fair "playoff"?

I think NDSU was a top 30 team last year I honestly do. This year I see them being around a top 75 team. They wouldn't be able to pull off a game like Kstate this year. I'd say if they were in the big 12 or big 10 this year they'd be a .500 team at best. Still that's pretty good for a FCS team. Now enter a !@#!$ post by D-bag 2011.
  8. Playing Navy IS in fact a tradition, as it was the Naval Academy that helped keep Notre Dame afloat when our grandparents were hunkering down in WWII in the 1940's. Notre Dame has an open-ended invitation to play Navy every year and considers the game to be a sort of debt repayment. I'm no fan of Notre Dame, but certainly appreciate their honor in this instance. If this was ANY other college, they'd wipe this game off the map as soon as possible to make bigger bucks playing someone else. Kudos to Notre Dame for keeping this seemingly one-sided rivalry alive. Anchors aweigh!

Very honorable. Kind of like taking the big girl to prom that used stick up for you on the playground when you were a little kid. All kidding aside its first class thing to do. Dumbo Fisher could learn a few things about what honor and high character is all about.
  9. Let's hope we stay after him and get him. You don't see/hear any chatter about him right now on the Internet. I just watched Mollbergs tape from his high school years (I forget how good he looked) but Anderson looks better especially with his feet. Hopefully he can bounce back from his injury.
  10. He's got big ol Brett Favre paws too which will help in playoffs road games if need be. He's the #1 recruit that I want for UND. We obviously need lots of hogs and other players but he really looks like a good one.

I just watched his hudl tape from his junior year. Very good with his feet as well. Very impressive. Not sure who's interested in him still after his injury.
  11. The one I've been most impressed with is that QB from MN who is injured and can't play his senior season. His throwing motion and release are as good as I've seen. He could be a steal since big schools won't risk on a qb who didn't play their last year.

Trey Anderson I think is his name. You're right I think we have a real good shot at him and he's going to be a good one.
  12. I was just checking out some of the tape on the QB's we have interest in and the one that stood out to me is Tyler Perone. Doubtful we could get him but he looks real good. Not sure how we ended up recruiting a kid in Pennsylvania. I know there was a Perone that was a professor at UND awhile back.

  13. That was about the third time I heard Jimbo say that in an interview the last few weeks. I thought coach, if you need to keep saying it, it's probably not true. That was funny.

Kind of like when I keep telling the ladies how well endowed I'am. You can say it all you want doesn't make it true no matter how well you play on the field the lies are eventually exposed and there's a disappointed person/people.

  14. Congrats on the new indoor practice center at SDSU. Bisonville doesn't think its a big deal, but we've almost copied it.

Isn't the job of bragging up SDSU normally reserved for 89rabbit. Why hasn't he been posting lately, as his status was the director of SDSU Alumni before he had to abruptly resign. Maybe he needed to attend to his wife who was in the Brookings county jail for credit card fraud of a SDSU booster. If you are an SDSU booster, you definitely need LifeLock if you donate to the Alumni Association.

    Jeez,

Leave the guy alone he comes in piece.

  15. So who are the top recruits in this class? Not necessarily highest rated by rivals et al but who are the best players so far that we have committed?

From the info I have which isn't much. I'd say Momoh, Engwal and Williams are on top of the group. Like I said I don't know much though.
  16. Pretty sure there's interst from UND but I think I saw it might be on the defensive side of the ball. He also plays LB. This is a kid that loves to hit so at FB or LB it would bring some good grit.

Before the game I checked the wiki site and saw him as a interest on the defensive side of the ball. He's physically big and athletic and seemed to take a good angle of pursuit on ball carriers on sweeps. I did see him over pursue which obviously contradicts my first statement but over pursuit I think is normal for kids this age.

  17. Looks like we might have had two QB's on campus today. Buddy said these two were on campus.

    Brandon Snoberger from Sartell http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2139927/brandon-snoberger

Josh Ringleburg from Greendale, WI http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1700092/josh-ringelberg

Watched the Sartell kid play when he came to Bemidji. He's a big kid, threw a nice ball, moved well and seemed to have a feel for the pocket. He had a rough night that though. I believe they got shutout. His WR's had some drops, but definitely not his best night.

  19. Mollberg will be QB next game. He has played well last couple of games and there was nothing exceptional from Bartles that would lead one to believe he will do better. He did a good job. Interesting that some of the experts don't point out the missed guy in end zone that could have been TD or missed open receivers or the possible pick 6 Portland could have had on the out pattern Young dove for and caught. These are always brought up when Mollberg makes same mistake. That stuff happens and is part of the game for both of these guys. What too many seem to miss is that there were no dropped balls yesterday and at least four diving catches. The same guys who wanted to toss Garmin under the bus should have seen the potential he has if you give him some seems to run in. Oline is maybe the most important factor for either of these guys. They both are a lot better when receivers catch the ball. Receivers did great job yesterday.

Bottom line is that Mollberg has played well the last two games and other than the pick 6 did decent job against Montana State. Bartels came in and played well yesterday. The problems on offense aren't necessarily the QB. Don't see coaches pulling Mollberg now after he has been playing well. They won't pull him until they know he won't be their QB then he will likely be done.

Agree with everything you said about our QB situation. I agree that given room to move Garman is effective. Unfortunately he can't break tackles. He goes down way to easy. When Shaugs gets back he needs to play. I wasn't very impressed with Simmons either. Our Oline is what it is. They played better this week and hopefully it continues. For the second week in a row a WR comes out of nowhere to be a number one target. Also, we're continuing to utilize our TE's. Nice to see some recieving depth. All in all our offense is showing improvement and I believe it continues with either Mollberg.
