How bout the University of North Dakota Hostile & Abusers?
-
Looks like ND Sioux voters are going to get screwed by the caucasions again. Well hopefully this will be the start of anti nicknamers (caucasions and NA's alike) to rid the reservations of chronic alcoholism, unemployment and violence. God Speed to you all.

This may have been one game where a few more penalties may have helped the Sioux. Michigan would have opened up a bit on the offensive side and our PK may have come up with a shorty to open up our scoring.

I beg to disagree that UND School of Engineering and Mines doesn't measure up with any other engineering school. I am a BSME graduate from UND 1996 and am damned proud of it! A couple of profs weren't my favorites but overall an excellent engineering school.

Bunkers Music Bar and Grill in Minneapolis is fun, good food and stiff drinks.

Funny also that the interviewer who knows so much more than the rest of the residents of North Dakota about the Sioux that he didn't ask such an obvious question...

Getting back to why this was brought about in the first place....Hostile and Abusive towards the Native Americans... I am soooo tired of how this got derailed into a whats best for the non hockey sports and athletes that the university. Why are you not happy that the supporters at Spirit Lake (67% voted FOR retaining the name) are now supported by North Dakota backing them up. Lets not be Hostile and Abusive and tell them they aren't smart enough to know whats best for them. This is what the fight is all about! First, Spirit Lake votes FOR retaining the name...Oh !@#$, gotta change the strategy, find a new angle. Second, We should only consider the NA students directly involved..to hell with the vote at Spirit Lake. Third, Fourth, ... Tenth or so, It will hurt playoff hosting chances and UM, UW and others won't play us. This isn't about money folks. If the Spirit Lake voters had voted against keeping the name even hockey fans would have supported a name change.

A mascot does not provide respect nor honor the Sioux nation. However, the logo does and it's designer, Bennet Brien, UND grad in 1999 was asked to design a new logo. "Brien says all aspects of the logo, from the profile of the face to the colors, mean something. "Like red was for the blood, feathers for bravery," said Brien." North Dakota does respect the Sioux and I am proud of the fact of how many NA students have graduated or are currently enrolled at UND, which btw is one of the top universities in the country with NA enrollment. I am also honored that a sound majority of Sioux of the Spirit Lake Tribe agree with me...67% voted in favor of keeping. The Standing Rock Tribe also has solid support but has been disenfanchised by its ruling council even though its members clearly wish to have a vote. I hope this helps.

Because North Dakota does respect the Sioux and truly honors their rich history. You won't find a student wearing a costume to imitate the name Sioux. I have had many opportunities to watch as Sioux Indians participated in athletic events where they demonstrated several dances in years past. I wish that they were more commonplace today at events on and off campus. Truly a sight to see and a wonderful way to enlighten the public of the Sioux culture.

House Bill to Save the Sioux Passes 65 to 28.
lakeshoe replied to The Whistler's topic in UND Nickname
Funny how this article twists the truth about the whole discussion. "However, in North Dakota the Standing Rock tribe opposes the Fighting Sioux nickname." is stated as fact...just no information how hard thousands signed a petition to VOTE on approval but were disenfranchised by the council. What, no mention about 67% of Spirit Lake Tribe approval? Same old bull$%!# from the anti-nickname .....just wish they'd shut up until the votes are counted. This is an issue that I and the rest of the SIOUX nation supporters will not waiver...We are the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux and always will be! We take extreme pride in UND's rich history leading the nation with numbers of enrolled Native American students and numbers of Indian Studies programs. NCAA calling us "Hostile and Abusive" is just plain bull$%!#. They should have made an effort to actually visit North Dakota before passing judgement because of twisted lies and half truths. -

Now is the time for a bad game or two....lighten up fans....Hak's teams are competitive and c'mon reality is that there is more to a NCAA championship than just skill and good coaching. There is a lot a luck also....a key injury or just opposing goal tender on fire.... Hak stays.

I'm sure you'll keep us all informed how all the "Important" issues have been given priority and NA lives improved as a result of this. Please provide charts showing this. I'd like to think that without the association to UND radical improvements will be made quickly! Unfortunately what will likely happen is just the opposite. Think of all the lost visibility to the Sioux Nation once the association to UND and its traditions are long forgotten. I predict history will show that you may have won this battle 4winds but unfortunately lost the war. The war being improving life for NA's.

Time to introduce the UND Water Buffalo. It'll resonate well with all the flooding.
