It was an exhibition game, Grand Valley beat Michigan State in an exhibition too ( I think the same year) Kennesaw State won a DII title in men's hoops in 2004, yet finished this year 337 ( out of 343 teams) in RPI in DI It is a different ballgame

not to mention that not many other schools recruit players from ND

Sagarin only counts D-I games, coupled with the limited interplay between first year transitional schools (non-RPI counters) and established D-I teams makes the ratings more difficult Ex. Sagarin has USD at 211 based on a 4-6 record against D-I schools, however they are only 1-3 against RPI counters- tough to make much of a judgement off that
