  3. NDSU has a home/home setup with Ga Southern. Also the reason SDSU is getting games with Montana (and I beleive has similar deals Delaware and UNI) is that SDSU is willing to do two away/one home game deals Big Sky (or Gateway etc) teams would love to play UND- but not in Grand Forks.
  4. Isn't UNI's AD (who is responsible for scheduling) a UND alum?
  5. A BL-4 lab would be a huge get for UND, I think there are currently around 3-4 in the US (CDC-Atlanta, NIH-Bethesda, and one is being built in Hamilton Montana). Does UND currently even have any BL3 facilities (other than what is proposed for the tech park)?
  6. MONROE, La. - On Wednesday, the Louisiana-Monroe Mascot Committee endorsed Warhawks, the mascot suggestion that garnered the most votes in a recent online public poll. While ULM's new mascot design has yet to be finalized, the committee has suggested the Warhawk mascot could assume a variety of identities that draw upon different strengths. One Warhawk identity could relate to the area's aviation history. Warhawk has local historical connections to the P-40 Warhawk Airplane, flown by Northeast Louisiana's General Claire Chennault and the Flying Tigers during WWII. The P-40 Warhawk was the first American plane to break the 300 MPH mark, was rugged, and could withstand heavy punishment. The Warhawk identity might also include hawks, a fierce bird of prey, indigenous to this area and often seen on ULM's campus. The hawk symbolizes courage, speed, power and vision. Rickabaugh Graphics representative Eric Rickabaugh will tour the ULM campus and northeast Louisiana to gain a feel for local flavor and will then incorporate that into prospective mascot designs. ULM staff is busy planning an unveiling of the mascot designs, with a goal of June 1. ULM President James E. Cofer, Sr., who participated in Wednesday's decision, is grateful for the committee's extensive work over the past five months. "I want to thank the committee for all their hard work and their continued commitment to the university," he said. "The work is not done. We've outlined the next steps here today and all of us are counting on you to continue to do great work as we begin new traditions at ULM." http://southland.cstv.com/genrel/040506aaa.html
  7. Anybody care to give some explanation about the "Herbst Hating"
  8. I wouldn't be surprised to see Huse named head coach at Montana St it the not so distant future
  9. "RubeIdiot" it is shown in the quote While we are still at it- can I get a name switch to "Hansel", it is what I use on every other board
  10. Most coaches and players like to play games at 1 pm, also does the Alerus actually seat 13,500? Haven't the last few "sellouts" been counted around 12,500? I have been to FB games in the UNI-Dome (which seats 16,500- with Bleacher type seating) and the Alerus seems a lot smaller. Could we have a Betty-type situation where the Alerus doesn't hold as many as we thought???
  11. Possible but unlikely, very few schools "make" money on any sport. Even a hockey school with solid attendance, Ohio State, loses money on Men's Hockey, and for women's hockey you can essentially double your expenses without any additional revenue. Factor in that NDSU would probably have to lease/rent a city-owned facility and any chance at profit goes out the door. Down the road if hockey makes sense for NDSU I would be for it, but it certainly doesn't now. On a side note, have their been any rumblings of a Kansas City school (ex UMKC) adding hockey? They are building a beautiful new arena there, which as far as I know does not have any major tenants (no NBA/NHL or major CB teams). A Kansas City school could follow the Omaha model (school in a Large Metro looking to get attention, Arena needing a tenant [even moreso than Omaha which has Creighton hoops] metro lacks major sports team etc etc etc). IMHO that type of situation would be the best for a college Hockey team. login for article Username mike Password jimmy email jimmys@jimmy.com
  12. Maybe UND should share this info with the women's hockey team
  13. Lueck went to NDSCS to play football, and then transferred to I-AA Murray St where he played (sparingly I beleive) before eventually transferring to UND.
  14. Moss played both IAA and IA as did Pennington and I think Daunte Fumblepepper
  15. In addition to depth, IAA also puts a lot more "impact players" in the NFL. In 5 of the last 7 years an NFL MVP award has gone to someone who played IAA football. Recent "impact" players who played IAA include Rich Gannon, Kurt Warner, Jimmy Smith, Rodney Harrison, Steve McNair, Darren Sharper, Brian Westbrook, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, with new guys like Jerome Mathis (Pro Bowl KR) and Samkon Gado emerging this year. Not a lot of bigtime NFL guys have come from DII recently
  16. I am guessing the main reason UTPA got boosted were NCAA issues regarding their BB team
  17. UNC went 3-2 against IAA teams in 03 (1-2 vs Fully Funded schools) Since moving to IAA (03 for UNC/UCD, 04 for SU's), here are the records of schools vs fully funded IAA teams UNC 3-13 UC-Davis 6-6 NDSU 6-4 SDSU 1-8 combined 16-31 vs DII over that same time span a combined 19-1, (in 03 UCD lost to GVSU in OT)
  18. WTF, what kind of reporter quotes a guy who had talked to a guy who had talked to the guy?

  20. UND has been about even with NDSU baseball over the last 5 years. Newman hasn't helped out that much and yes there is women's lacrosse, Northwestern won the title last year (in only their 3rd or 4th year of having a team)
  21. Miles also took SW Minnesota St to the Elite 8 a few years ago. Facilities are great for fans and revenue, however Coaching is much more important in getting W's.
  22. Missed the game (I was stuck in an airport) but the fans/players seemed to be pretty upset at the decision, there is a ~600 post thread on the game if you want to gauge other fan reaction (some light reading ) http://www.anygivensaturday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6242
  23. UND would get as many points for playing NDSU as they would for playing UNI. See jimdahl and RD17's posts
