  1. He was under the 4 year rule. The reason he left was about $1.6 million of them. A two year NHL salary, because he signed as a free agent and not under the rookie collective bargaining agreement. The Jets paid him $925k/year to play in St Johns instead of the probably $60k/year he would've otherwise earned in the AHL. Strike while the irons hot- thats a lot bread to turn down when you're 22...
  2. Nawww...Frattin to me has a Jeff Taffe NHL/AHL career ahead of him in my opinion- good guy to help develop AHL talent-good guy to have as an emergency call-up can play 2nd, 3rd or 4th line role depending on need-
  3. Didn't Russ Parent play 4 years???
  4. I wouldn't have been an integral part in an act that could hurt the team or myself!
  5. Winning the big game requires that you get the absolute best from everybody for sixty minutes when it matters most. I think the most important character in that play is the goaltender. We often talk about Blais' offensive build out and attacking with unmatched speed. Blais is also known for being a mindbender on goalies...really messing with their psyche. Our achilles heal during our best opportunities under Hak was the play of our tenders...think BC...
  6. There are two schools of thought on adjustments- 1. Make adjustments based on what the opposition is giving you 2. Do not make adjustments, keep playing "your game" The best game coaches know how to flex those 2. Hak is still growing in that capability IMO
  7. On my death bed, I will not remember anything related to my athletic fandom of SIoux hockey...wins or not...nattys or not... I want to enjoy the ride every year. When I start not enjoying the ride, it will be due to an inferior on-ice product. Hak has not won the biggest game, but rarely have I thought the product was inferior and not fun to watch- when that happens (as it did at the end of Gino's era)- then it will be time to replace. I might not love Hak's breakout or some of his approach, but I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the product he puts on the ice. No Natty does not mean no success to this fan.
  8. Is it about bragging rights? I want to win a title every year too, but I really get entertained by the fact that we have a chance to win every game, are pursuing that title every year, and have something fun to watch on most weekend nights. The journey is better than the destination- just like life... What is one natty win worth in terms of entertainment value? To me personally, it is still one single game- maybe I revel in it for a second day and get to brag about 8 being more than 5, but really, its one game...
  9. Just saying if you're in the conversation to go first overall, you should show it at the WJC
  10. Agree- think about a couple UND players who could really take over a game in college AND in the WJC- two names: Parise and Toews. Playing extremely well at the WJC is the tell as to whether a player can make it happen against the best in the world. Eichell didn't do that. He's a very, very good player...but...
  11. I've met him a few times as well- always very nice and considerate
  12. Also remember that Stecher will be back, which bodes well.
  13. That might be the most negative positioning of a post-season performance possible...winning 2 games takes you to the Frozen Four...winning 3 games takes you to the national championship...
  14. you do realize that UMD is ahead of us in the Pairwise, and if this was the NCAA tourney, our win on Sat would be an upset? This team is solid, but not great...yet...we do not have future NHL superstars on this team, but we have good skill and good character. If Jordan Schmaltz starts taking over games, we can go a long way. If he continues to play like the next Brian Lee, we will not go very far...we also really need LJ to start scoring some goals...
  15. The Sioux family is with the Parise family as they go through this journey- my wishes are for peace and comfort to the Parise family. Remember that there is no Fighting Sioux All-American #11 ten years ago without JP Parise- by all accounts, he was a wonderful person- and through my encounters with Zach, he passed on those great traits to his sons(s) God Bless
  16. JScmaltz's offensive upside is undisputed. I don't know how well he'd have held up his end in the d zone against the best players in the world back then- he's still inconsistent there against NCAA competition. I guess it depended on the team composition desired...it's generally smart in that tourney to only go with 2 offensive dmen...you generally want two balanced pairings and a shut down pair
  17. I'll take a couple of those pks if it reinforces that we will not be intimidated or pushed around the rink. It's a long season, and even if you lose a couple games in Dec for being "un disciplined" a hockey team is better when the players stick up physically for themselves and their teammates. Intimidation is powerful juju.
  18. I have no problem with Jewels throwing a punch there, and I have no problem with him going to the box for it. However the DU player should've gone too. Sioux hockey players shall never back down from a physical confrontation.
  19. DU has. One of the better pp in the nation- need PKU more than pp
