  1. To quote Spinal Tap- "Bad poetry and retarded sexuality"
  2. You seriously like KISS? Unless you were 18 in 1977, I can't cut any slack for someone who actually likes that band...
  3. The assistants will have to get on board or find new jobs...just like in business when there is a new boss. Guentzel might be able to take the job and still be heir apparent at U of MN...if he takes CC back to the NCAAs, that only strengthens his resume to be head at U of MN when Donnie steps down. Donnie has at least 5 more years...that's a long time to be in the second seat. If my employer thinks I am on the short list to be CEO when the current one retires, and I leave to be CEO somewhere else and do a good job...I can still come back...
  4. I'm a Federal League man myself..."ensemble #5, titled Omar Sharif, modeled by Chiefs' defense man, Billy Charlesbois, who, if I can read the card correctly, hails from Moosejaw, Sas-Kat-Chewan
  5. I agree that Dillon's skating is a question mark. He has all of the other tools... If he improves his skating, there is no reason that he couldn't be a reliable 3rd pairing dman...he doesn't have the mean streak or size to be a shutdown, and he doesn't have the skating to be an offensive dman. He is a tweaner, but a tweaner who does many things well... I think my Chorney comparison is pretty good, but Chorney was a better skater and Dillon is a better shot blocker/lane disrupter... The deal is that skating in the NHL is table stakes. You have to be an elite skater, then you have to fill a role.
  6. I was just looking at first round busts...take our rodent friends David Fischer or Patrick White Those guys would've been better off signing contracts on draft day and going to the CHL...they would've gotten first round signing bonuses at least...
  7. Correct- the weakness of the NCHC's non-conference record collectively hurt us. The draft pick argument is silly...first rounders should be really good...second rounders are good but have a slight knock of some kind...third round are projects that you might get lucky on...after that...not much difference between a guy who gets drafted late vs a guy who doesn't get drafted but can play.
  8. I thought the same thing about Taylor Chorney...and he's ended up a journeyman with more time in the A than the N. Both exceptional leaders and by all accounts really good people. Regardless with Dillon, he'll have a degree and have used all 4 years of college eligibility up. No regrets.
  9. Linden played right away and scored 30 goals as an 18 year old. Modano scored 29 as a 19 year old.
  10. Congrats to Dillon Simpson for signing a 3 yr deal with Edmonton... My guess is a max signing bonus ($300k), a max AHL deal ($70k), and an NHL salary of $625k or so...
  11. In 1988 the debate was who to pick- Modano or Linden with the #1 overall They both had great years in the WHL...very similar stats...very similar physically...6'4 vs 6'3, 200 or so with room to fill out. Modano was faster, Linden was tougher in the corners Linden had led his team to the Memorial Cup Modano had a ridiculous highlight reel Linden ended up being a fixture for some great cup runs for the Canucks along side Courtnall and Bure Modano won the cup and became the top US born scorer of all-time Linden with 375 goals and 867 points playing 20 seasons Modano with 561 goals and 1374 points and a Cup playing 22 seasons Modano obviously the better pick in retrospect, but if you get Linden in the 1st round, you are thrilled
  12. It goes back 25 years, but Trevor Linden was a great pick
  13. Herter played 8 years for a top farm league (AHL and IHL) and was initially signed by the Canucks organization. White never got a contract in North America.
  14. So...BU, BC, Michigan, Minnesota, and UND remain...fitting
  15. Paul Martin, Keith Ballard, Alex Goligoski, Matt Niskanen, Christ Kunitz, Paul Stastny, Matt Carle, Joe Pavelski...many more I'm sure...this is off the top of my head
  16. epic fail of 1st round draft picks
  17. A 3:30 shift? last time I had a 3:30 shift was a 5 minute PP in PeeWee
  18. There is no debating that Rocco is a great hockey player...so was Jeff Panzer and countless others who never saw the ice or simply got a cup of coffee in the show. If he turns pro, I will wish him much success. However, from a readiness perspective, he just isn't there yet. Bjugstad is in the same franchise, has monster physical gifts, and outperformed Rocco (so far) in his college career. Rocco will not play in the NHL next year. He must determine if the signing bonus and the development opportunity and okay money of the AHL is worth it...all I have to say is that guys that go to the A have to prove they can play, and guys who are 5'6 in the A have to score 40 goals to prove they can play. Guys who go right to the show have to prove they can't play. If I were in Rocco's shoes, I would stay one more year...minimum
  19. God Bless and God Speed.
  20. Good point! All in then, Rocco is financially better off getting his housing and meals paid by UND next year- again assuming the deal stands- which I'm sure it will.
  21. No way does Rocco play in the NHL for more than a couple games over the next 2-3 years at present development level. Assume he has a rookie max signing bonus offer and say $800k in show and $70k in AHL...all he'd be doing by leaving now is getting his $300k bonus and $70k AHL salary one year earlier. They won't pull his offer. One year, time value on $220k (after taxes) is ballpark $10k...or, the equivalent of his housing and meals at UND (likely paid under scholarship). Financial value to Rocco of signing is nothing. Only thing he gets is to start his entry level Restricted status a year early.
  22. Dont take this the wrong way, but Toewser is a bad comparison. I love Rocco, but he was 20 most of this year and scored 17 goals and had 39 points...when JT was 19 he had 24 goals and 54 points...IN THE NHL
