  1. Now he is saying he planned to retire in the spring anyway. He is fielding calls from all kinds of colleges that want him, but he thinks he will turn them down so he can be a consultant to colleges transitioning to D1. Forum Story Good self esteem is healthy, narcissism is not.
  2. I wonder if finishing 2009 has anything to do with his various deferred compensation benefits. ScottM or some other tax expert may know the answer. It is highly unlikely NDSU is going to fill the position by then. Hiring a university president is a six month and probably six figure task
  3. From KFGO's website Chancellor William Goetz State Board of Higher Education 10th Floor, State Capitol 600 East Boulevard Avenue, Dept. 215 Bismarck, ND 58505-0230 Dear Chancellor Goetz, I am writing to tender my resignation as President of North Dakota State University effective January 2, 2010. Serving as president of North Dakota State University for the past 11 years has been the greatest privilege of my academic career. Together with students, faculty and staff, we have taken this institution to new levels, and I take great pride in all we have accomplished together. Gale and I have made friends and community ties here we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Controversies in recent days have created distractions that have made it impossible for me to provide the leadership this institution deserves. Students have always been paramount, and I fear these distractions have impaired my ability to serve their interests. I strongly urge you and the State Board of Higher Education to commission a comprehensive and independent audit of the president
  4. It is a good thing NDSU has one of the best forensic accounting programs in the country. Is O'Halloran still an adjunct at NDSU? I believe he is a UND grad
  5. Where are the Chapman slush funds on this pie chart?
  6. The reporting on this story is sub-par at best. I have heard many rumors from people at NDSU and involved in the construction of the house, but have not seen much reported other than numbers. This is one of those situations where the buck had to have stopped somewhere and the Forum or some other outlet should get to the bottom of where and with whom. In the end the Foundation is a private entity (although I would put the word quasi before private) and we will probably never know what really happened. If I was an NDSU donor I would be extremely mad.
  7. What authority did Chapman have regarding change orders on the house? Did he require/request anything from the Development Foundation? I have not seen any reporting to answer these questions. Chapman is not talking, is anyone else? I suspect someone is going to get tossed under the bus for the house, but who?
  8. They still have a few French-Canadians on the roster. Close enough to dislike for me. Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in a park in Toronto, when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his stick, wedges it down the dog's collar and twists, breaking the dog's neck. A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Leafs Fan Saves Friend From Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook. "But I'm not a Leafs fan," the little hero replied. "Sorry, since we are in Toronto, I just assumed you were." said the reporter and starts again. Little Jays Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he continued writing in his notebook. "I'm not a Jays fan either," the boy said. "I assumed everyone in Toronto was either a Leafs or Jays fan. What team, do you root for?" the reporter asked. "I'm a Montreal Canadiens fan." the child said. The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little French Bastard from Montreal Kills Beloved Family Pet."
  9. They have more 25 year old Canadians than Manitoba. That would explain their reputation. Also, they have a player from France. If that is not reason to hate them I don't know what is
  10. I just moved to West Fargo and have Midco - can anyone tell me what channel FSSN is on?
  11. His degrees are in philosophy and it appears he has never held a job outside of academia. This is the problem with these leftist university types. They have no clue how the real world works. Professionally, Brand was a self serving egotistical prick, but I still do not wish death on him. He will be replaced by someone with the same philosophies. It is sad really, these people live in utopia they call campus. Things aren't as happy as they used to be down here at the unemployment office. Joblessness is no longer just for philosophy majors. Useful people are starting to feel the pinch. Kent Brockman
  12. On the Wild's website they just list: Tuesday Sept. 15, 2009 @ St. Louis Blues 7 p.m. Scottrade Center Friday Sept. 18, 2009 Columbus Blue Jackets 7 p.m. Xcel Energy Center Sunday Sept. 20, 2009 Chicago Blackhawks 5 p.m. Xcel Energy Center Monday Sept. 21, 2009 @ Columbus Blue Jackets 6 p.m. Nationwide Arena Thursday Sept. 24, 2009 St. Louis Blues 7 p.m. Xcel Energy Center Friday Sept. 25, 2009 @ Chicago Blackhawks 7:30 pm United Center Tuesday Sept. 29, 2009 @ Philadelphia Flyers 6 p.m. Wachovia Center In the past they have announced the game in GF later for some reason. Likely a marketing reason.
  13. When I lived in St. Paul I bought tickets from a scalper just before game time. I never had a problem. Also, I never had a problem with Gopher fans at Mariucci. Sensors was the only place that had Sioux games. The one in Bloomington typically had more Sioux fans and therefore had them on more/bigger TV's. Mankato and St. Cloud are different stories if you make the short drive. Both fans suck and you need to get tickets in advance unless the games are over a student break.
  14. Forum Story
  15. Obituary I never met the man, but he certainly knew how to live. I think a moment of silence would be appropriate for a man who was this dedicated to Sioux hockey.
  16. Record burglaries, vandalism and now this: FORE We are not even safe at the golf course. This is the mental picture I see when reading this story:
  17. My problem was with the school board president stating that the natural light eliminated fights and all of the kids are happy when they get to school because of the natural light. I agree that the use of natural light is healthier and potentially more energy efficient. However, this guys response went way past this and was completely absurd. In fact pretty much everything he said was condescending and/or absurd. Despite this I voted yes, because I agreed with the superintendent that something needs to be done soon.
  18. I recently moved to WF (begrudgingly) and followed this closely. I went to one of the meetings put on by the school board and I am still in disbelief by the incompetence of the school board. Dr. Wallace, who is typically vilified, gave a great speech and did a great job at answering all questions. She convinced me something needed to be done, however, it became very apparent she did not agree with the school board's plan. The president of the school board was a condescending moron. In response to a question about why all of the new schools have so much glass (inferring they may not be energy efficient) the president of the school board gave this drawn out narrative about how the old schools did not have much natural light which caused all kinds of problems including fights and depressed students. He stated that now the new schools do not have any fights and all of the kids get to school and immediately become happy because of all of the natural light. This just paraphrased the drawn out idiotic narrative this guy gave. All I could think of was this movie scene -LINK
  19. Actually VS and VS HD are available with the regular digital package (which I have). I was going to order the sports package until I realized this. The sports package has the NHL and NFL channels, but none of the NHL playoff games are on so I am waiting until fall before spending the extra $4/month.
  20. Welcome back to the Rocky Hagar era I will give him credit for running an apparently large business while a full time student and football player.
  21. I could be wrong but my understanding was the settlement with the NCAA specifically stated UND could not simply drop the Sioux nickname/logo without adopting a new one. Whatever the new nickname is I hope it is something unique to this area. I would not be happy with the Wildcats or some other stupid animal based name shared by 1000 different schools. Personally I would like to see something reflecting the Scandinavian heritage, since apparently white people cannot be offended.
  22. I agree with the decision. There is obviously no way UND will ever be able to keep the name because of the insanely stupid "settlement" with the NC$$. Why drag this out any longer than it needs to? Once they filed the suit they should have been prepared to go all the way with it. They cowered once the NC$$ started playing dirty by bringing in 30 year old pictures of the Judge among other shameless tactics. I say the nickname should be the Fighting. That's it, leave it as 'Fighting' and let the fans fill in the rest. Any IP people out there know what happens to the copyright on the logo once UND drops it? I assume they cannot keep ownership of it.

    Blais

It sounds like the Force are battling the flu. It is tough to play when half the team is sick or recovering from being sick.
  24. This vote is pretty meaningless, except to show what most people have known all along - most Indians approve of the name. The problem is not (nor has it ever been) with the tribes. The problem is the far left elitists. These people could care less about democracy. They think they are smarter than everyone else and need to "protect" the Native people who cannot determine what is in their own best interests.

    2009 Flood

I would criticize the forecasters, but I would have no idea what I'm talking about. The fact they were within a foot or so last time seems pretty accurate to me (they always officially said 42 - outside chance of 43). Anything over 43 would be devastating for the city. My house is Moorhead is two miles from the river but would have water at 43.5 feet according to the GIS projections. This all depends on the weather and trying to precisely predict mother nature is impossible. Looks like I should not have taken the floor drains out of the basement. It looks like the Mayor Walaker disagrees with the NWS:
