University of North Dakota Hockey 2019-20 Season
Feff replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Never understood those thinkers. I have liked his game, hasn't always been productive but to me he screams old-school UND. Hard working, sticks his nose in when necessary, will hustle all game long, and is about as unselfish as they come. -
Not going to lie, Minnesota is looking really good in this game. They might actually be legit this season.

Volleyball has fallen fairly far from just a handful of years ago. Is this just a matter of coaches unable to deliver after Hardee screwed himself out of a job? We just needing to find the right fit, or was our success before an aberration?

Tonight was an example of how this offense can be when players are actually hitting their snipe attempts. So many of these shots we've seen completely miss the net night after night, but tonight they were on target and picking those bar down corners. That was fun hockey to watch.

Have to agree with the comment above that lack of a run game is killing UND and that rests on the backs of the linemen. They have been holding up well enough in pass protection but the run blocking is wildly inconsistent. Some plays they'll fit hats perfectly and all of a sudden there is a hole for the RB to exploit and our RB's are hitting them. Don't forget that a good number of the first half drives for UND against MSU started out getting chunks with the run. On Gee's fumble he was about 10 yards downfield. The problem is consistency and being able to get a push when we absolutely need it. Short yardage, our run game is a liability because teams will stack the box and our line is unable to get that push. With that said, I like the look of our RBs right now. JJ is playing well and he's carrying defenders on a good number of his runs. That swing pass for a first down against MSU was impressive because he got 3-4 yards with a linebacker hanging on him. I like what I'm seeing from Skokna, he looks like he'll be fun to watch for the next couple years. Gee is solid, not flashy. Give them holes and bring some balance to the offense.

There comes a time where we actually have to present a threat downfield on something other than a trick/gimmick play. Haven't seen much of that from him and contributing to that is his footwork.

Fantastic game. Mismash was best player on the ice for most of the game, Scheel came up big and really deserved the shutout. Surprised that was Tychonik's first career goal, hopefully the first of many. My final thought, how good has Peski been so far this season? Rock solid defensive guy but seeing him more and more getting involved offensively. He's really developed well at UND.

I have no interest in reading the bison site

Chode is an apt description of him.

I foresee another 1 goal victory.

Blocked punt in the endzone and recovery.

Fully agreed that winning consistently with dink/dunk is really difficult. We don't need someone that's going to be breaking 50-60 yard type plays but someone to at least run a route beyond 20 yards would help. The stop and go would work well. Disguise an outside block and then slip the receiver upfield. Run a deep drag on a rollout. Something beyond the dink/dunk we've been doing. I recall earlier in the season when Kett went out and suddenly Zimm starts taking shots downfield and receivers were making plays at or beyond that 20 yard mark. I can't help but think part of it is a product of Kett's inability to be accurate at that distance or willing to take that chance downfield in his read.
-
I still can't help but think, having just watched this game and thinking back to earlier in the year, what would this offense be like with either Schuster or Zimm playing QB? Coaches seem to like Kett but the offense has no down-field threat with him play QB, there's no real threat of a QB run, and no progression of a passing attack other than the quick hit/first read.

Been hard on Schmidt recently with some poor defensive showings but this game was won by the defense and special teams. Been a long time since we've been able to say that.
-
At least these officials can call a delay of game because they sure as hell aren't calling the false starts

Soaking wet, wearing a sweatsuit

Kicker needs to hit the weight room, put some muscle on that toothpick frame so he can kick it to the endzone.
-
These officials are a joke, why allow them to sub?!
-
How big has Cloyd been the past couple weeks!
-
He can do whatever he wants just so long as he doesn't get excited to make a tackle.
-
I don't even think they needed to down that punt, looked like it died on its own at the half yard line. Fantastic punt!
-
Dunno what MSU was thinking right there. They just left a window for UND to win on a FG. But that's if the UND offense can do anything.
-
If UND had a healthy or sizable defensive line, these linebackers would be all-conference type players.

Kett just has no ability to come off his first read, it's painful. If it's not there, he panics and usually ends up taking a sack.
