backup goaltender? And, yeah, my opinion is my own. I'm pretty sure I never talked about Olthuis.
-
My mistake. Either way, the point was clear. The puck made it on net somehow and the rebound or the puck somehow squirted out into the open and it was banged home. Garbage goal for sure. But it is how you beat a trap/left wing lock team like UAA when their goaltender is playing well. We weren't the sharpest last night but Christianson was. He played nearly as outstanding as Eidsness, maybe as outstanding. BE was clearly the player of the game. My 3 stars: 1. Eidsness 2. Christianson 3. Hextall HM: Genoway

Anchorage is a nice city and it is bigger than GF, so I can completely understand that perspective. Also, I think UAA is perpetually screwed. Why? Because, unless you are from Alaska, BC, Alberta, or Yukon (if any hockey is played there at all), it's way out there and hard to get to inexpensively. It may not even be cheap to fly there from BC or Alberta! Being away from home is hard for kids, and many of them have already done so for 2-3 years while in juniors. So, how would you sell going even farther away from home for 4 more years? I think Shyiak has one of the hardest recruiting jobs in all of college hockey. He also faces a tough fan base too because they DO respond better to winning teams. It's a no-win situation for him and UAA.

I don't question the work ethic. I question why we weren't simply playing the type of game that would beat the defensive system. You can't play a finesse game in a physical contest. Hakstol realizes this otherwise he would have rested up Hextall and played Toews instead. If they clog the neutral zone, then we have to crack that and simply get the puck on net any way we can. Genoway won the game tonight because he simply shot the puck and didn't worry about how pretty it was going to be. It was a garbage goal, plain and simple. Aided by the fact that Christianson lost track of the puck. But it counts just as much as the prettiest goal. That's my point.

WOW! See what happens when you just throw the f-ing puck at the net? WOW!
-
Why can't we just throw the puck at the net and crash? They aren't going to let us cycle. They aren't going to let it get to a run and gun game. So we have to go for dirty or garbage goals... exactly like the one UAA scored on us. Make a shot, hunt for rebounds. Time to just shoot the crap out of the puck.
-
Well, now we have to throw the puck at the net.

Looks like Genoway is fine. I just find that amazing that UAA Fans would boo an injury. How sad that fanbase is. I can't imagine the UAA fans on the message boards I've visited booing. Suze sometimes reads this board. I doubt she'd boo an injury.

Makes sense. UND had the last powerplay. Shepherd is the biggest advocate of even up penalty calling.
-
He has to be. UAA has made some timely saves, but for the most part, we're not very sharp. The UAA defensive scheme is baffling us a bit.
-
Sorry for a super stupid question but... Is Dean Wilson still coaching Fargo South? I heard he's now an assistant principal.... who is coaching the Bruins if he's not?
-
Maybe he's to blame on this one. He gets so many good offensive D but gets NOTHING in the way of stay at home D. Minnesota has gone years without a D like a Chorney. They haven't had a good answer for UND's Commodores, Greenes, Smabys, etc. since DeMarchi. They could have with Jake Taylor, but he was a flash in the pan, turning down a 4 year career with UMN and starting his pro dance then to jumping at the first opportunity and hence becoming an AHL lifer. So, in any case, too bad. It's one of the reasons why I love UND hockey. It stresses balance. Try to get the offensive prowess UMN is known for with the defensive excellence UW is known for. The best mix is the winner.

Well, it's apparent that Christianson is the Seawolves. Kinda the same deal when Lawson was in Anchorage. Not unbeatable, but certainly the best player on the team. Grant is good. Clark is good. Aiken can be potentially good. However, Christianson is the best.
-
TH says that UND came out flying but how can that be if we're being outshot badly in the second? Seems UAA is flying right now. PS, can't get the video for UAA. Firefox isn't compatible with RealAudio it appears... or my computer is screwed up. Either way, no vid.

Isn't it sad that the only method of enforcement the league employs towards these actions are reactionary instead of preventative? Players now know that they can get away with this stuff as long as they do it in such a manner that doesn't injure the other player. yet another example I can cite in my "Halo-esque" pursuit of a change in leadership.
-
It's getting harder not to say the reason Irwin isn't sitting for a game is because he's not a member of the Sioux. Yeah, Bruess might have deserved a severe penalty, but his actions were reacted upon. Maybe not as severe as they should have been, but they were reacted upon. Irwin's actions were not addressed at all. I think in future contests, I think Hakstol should get the team off the ice as soon as they humanly can and avoid handshake lines with MSU Mankato until such time that safety becomes an important aspect of all parts of the on-ice activities from the time the first skater steps on the ice until the last skater leaves the ice. I just don't feel comfortable with the current officiating leadership and what the players are allowed to get away with these days.

Googled this because I never heard of it. All I can say is... WOW. What an idiot.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a few seperate comments: Whoever it is that knows a lot about AJHL hockey, I'd love some input on Rodwell. This guy is unknown to me. It seems that there are better uncommitted forwards out there... not that Rodwell is bad, it's just that there's no information about him other than stats. At least CSS looked at Wey and there's some information out there on Olsen. What about Blake Thompson? He's ranked #81 on the list.

Another factor is the economy. I'm told that SSM isn't cheap. Hockey is already an expensive sport. So, if the program offers a similar quality program or at least commitment towards quality at a lesser price, there are going to be plenty of talent that goes a different direction. This results in the big name recruits heading in different directions. The wealthier players will still end up there anyways and SSM and programs like it won't be totally devoid of talent, but I think it is becoming just as likely for a good Midget AAA or U18 program (Tier I juniors, High School, whatever) to have or even keep that talent rather than going to the top private hockey schools. I don't know for sure though, just my wild hunch.

Nothing. Chances are getting better that the WCHA will tacitly endorse the action.
-
I dunno. In my mind, Bruess got kicked out of the game and Jutting, growing a spine, benches him for Saturday's game to "send him a message."
-
Then expect grovelling and empty promises. No personnel changes will be made. The beginning of next season will see a resurgence of strict adherence to the rulebook followed by the usual relinquishing and eventual abandonment around the holiday tourney season

hardy har har. The Wings perrenially have a better shot at the SC Finals than the Mild.

I only wish she could do something to make the Red Wings' goaltending play better.
