  1. Makes sense, AZ. He was listed on Salmon Arm's roster as a dual role player at defense and center. I hope Bishop isn't banged up. If Vandevelde needs time to acclimate to the college game, I'm not sure (and I'll get flamed for saying this) breaking him in vs. Wisconsin would be a good idea. On the flip side, maybe a high paced, uptempo game like Saturday night's game is going to be may be just the thing he needs. I'll trust Hakstol's judgement on that. I really liked the speed tonight's lineup showed. We need to keep it up tommorrow.
  2. I just believe that every team has their good eggs and bad eggs. Some fanbases have dumb traditions ("racist mascots" as an example) as well. This site has had its share of idiot posters from every team. It just seems more visible to us here because the idiots from other teams seem to stand out more. However, I find it hard to make a generalization based upon dumb things like the "racist mascot" chant. I understand that people don't like the Sioux. What I don't like are fans who expect to be respected (and their teams respected as well) and yet they refuse to return the favor. For example, all those posters who call us the Sue, Susies, Soo, or Fighting Halos (Sorry Slap Shot, but I don't like that). You don't have to like the team, but you should respect them enough to spell their name correctly. I doubt many of us would like our names butchered like that if it happened to us on an individual scale. That's my rant. In any case, I'm not sure if I'd change the lineup any tommorrow. The only question I have for all of you is this: Chay Genoway played today... who did he play for? I recall seeing all of those who were listed as defensemen play today. Does this mean Chay played as a forward?
  3. That REALLY impressed me (that and the goal). I was REALLY impressed by how often we tried to take it to the net. Ok, other various thoughts: 1. Isn't it kindof strange that Toews is tied for the team lead in goals... with Darcy Zajac? No matter. I've ABSOLUTELY LOVING the fact that we're scoring on all 4 lines. I don't recall the last time that there really wasn't that much of a drop in play between our first and our fourth lines. Miller and Bishop were flying too! 2. I agree that Porter was the best on the ice tonight, but I'm not really impressed with his hit on Klubertanz (although I did like the way he got up and looked around. It gave me "warm fuzzies" of red and white number 10). Speaking of hits... I haven't been to USCHO yet. I'm wondering how many Badger fans are going to call Finley's hit on Skille dirty. I give the over/under of 5 on that one. It was a NASTY hit but it was perfectly legal. I hope Skille is alright. After the Hagemo incident, I'm always a bit concerned whenever someone goes down holding an elbow or a shoulder. 3. I'm really impressed with our team speed. We were FAST. UW rubes were VERY quick to point that out and they pointed it out CONSTANTLY. 4. On a side note, the UW commentators are easier to listen to than the UMN commentators. Yeah, Woog knows more about hockey than Sags, but I don't recall much whining about missed calls by the refs. Every time a Sioux player seemed to hit a Gopher, Masucko would be counted to say "Well, you could have called that one!" or something dumb like that. I guess I was also impressed on how much they respected UND, its players, and its fans as a whole. 5. UND DID get away with some physical hits today, but it is GOOD to see us clearing out the front of the net. 6. I feel bad for Oshie. I really do. Sure, he's contributing and playing hard. He's not playing poorly by any means, but he can't get the puck into the net! That breakaway he had was great but, just like what was going on with him vs. QU, it always seemed to roll off his stick or fly in an unfortunate direction every time. 7. Finley, Bina, and Chorney, IMO, had really good games. Our entire defense looked solid. 8. Downside: 3rd period. I really think the UW commentators and the UND radio announcers gave UND far too much credit during the third period. To me, it seemed like we were always on the defensive during the 3rd period. We REALLY got lucky on that Gorowsky cherry pick. Thank goodness he had a brain fart because that was a Ford breakaway all over again if he could have held onto the puck. UW seems to be a 3rd period hockey team. They allowed UND to dominate pretty much the first two periods (it was slightly more even in the 2nd period) and then seemed to find their game in the third. We'll have to see what happens with Carlson and Skille tommorrow. Klubertanz will be back. GREAT win for the Sioux! The worst that can happen to us now is a split! That's hardly a downside! Let's go for it again tommorrow!
  4. I caught WF's 10 points but then had to attend to other things. They were certainly making noise against the South D. It made me think that there are definitely ways you can beat the South team.
  5. I dunno... the men's team had a few good years... a few NHL stars came from RPI like Adam Oates as an example.
  6. Sorry, but I can't help you in that category. I also can't help you with your cheering. I'll be rooting for NDSU. Yup. NDSU. Why? Because I want the entire metrodome to be chanting "FIRE MASON" by the end of the 3rd Quarter. Everyone has talked about how much history Minnesota football has (not as much as hockey, but they're supposed to be pretty decent historically speaking). Well, Mason is Matt Millon if he were a college head coach. Minnesota NEEDS to lose this game or the UMN AD won't be able to see Mason as the crappy coach he is. Instead, he'll just hail it as a victory and settle for mediocrity.
  7. DOn't worry about this rule, dagies. It's not like Chucko is still around to utilize it. I guess I never really noticed this as being as much of a problem until seemingly half of Chucko's goals coming off of the skate.
  8. Oh common, Goon! Don't tell me you haven't heard of .... uh... that winger guy on Colgate! And their goalie uh..whatshisface is supposed to be simply top notch!
  9. This Chris Peltier guy.... Uh... well, him not taking the party line (All Native Americans are against the nickname) means he won't be in that position for long. He's too level headed. He's obviously a "Hang around the fort" type that has "turned his back on his people."
  10. No kidding! I think that bottom photo is the reason why some message boards don't allow you to post images.
  11. HOckeydb doesn't have any record of him since 2004-5 season.
  12. Not really.... Campion has called good games in the past. Not sure I remember the last game where SHepherd hasn't blown a few. NIghtmare ref lineup would be Anderson and Adam. Period. I'd expect someone's career to end while their on the ice and it won't initially be theirs.
  13. High Five?
  14. I don't know if Radke will be sitting. He contributed offensively and he did one thing that no other Sioux player did repeatedly: Stood up to QU players when they did some dirty things. Remember when Oshie was hit and slid into the boards in the first period? Who was it that came to Oshie's defense? Radke. When things got a chippy a few times who was there to keep QU at bay? Radke. Personally, I LIKE Kyle Radke. He's been solid defensively and he's feisty. He won't back down from ANYONE just like Jones. The Sioux need that.
  15. Yes
  16. The music wasn't all that bad last night. What was off last night was the person that does the music did not coordinate at one time with the jumbotron (Did "Feeling lonely tonight" or whatever and the camera was shoing some chick talking to someone when it should have been the penalty box). Also, the intros were nice because suddenly no one was who they were intro'd as according to the jumbotron.
  17. Well, soon to be unranked Colgate didn't fare too well either.
  18. It's late and probably mostly already said, but here are my impressions of the game: Suites are NIIIIIICEEEE! Toews was amazing and so was Duncan. Oshie showed a lot of hustle but I can't help but be a little disappointed in the fact that he was alone with the puck no less than 3 times in front of the net and he couldn't bury the puck. One time (the shorthanded breakaway) he clearly had the goaltender beat. Kozek had the only other obvious miss of the night. We HAVE HAVE HAVE to bury more of our chances than we did if we expect to win against tougher teams than Quinnipiac. The Bobcats gave us MANY great chances and either the goaltender came up big or we didn't capitolize on it in a less savory manner. Folks, our power play was BAD last night. Missed passes, running into each other... It's almost like they didn't know where they were going. Not to worry, our second period play was even worse. Phil played ok, but the first QU goal happened right in front of my seats and, besides the fact that Genoway got absolutely torched (he tried to play the body WAY too late), I think Phil could have had that one. The play wasn't going that fast. The second QU goal I didn't see very well as it was on the other side of the arena. I love the Toews hattie but I think Fisher may have had a valid argument on Toews' second goal. He was clearly covering the puck for what probably was enough time for a whistle. No whistle came, he moved (which dislodged the puck) and TOews buried it. A questionable call but oh well. It's still the game winner. I was impressed with Hunter Bishop. That kid can hustle. I was very happy to see Forney in the lineup and he even had a pretty decent shot on goal at one point. I think this team will do fine as long as we don't play like we did the second period against teams like UW, Minnesota, or Maine.
  19. But the big DUH moment comes out east as Vermont smokes Colgate showing whomever it was that ranked Colgate to be really smoking some bad stuff.
  20. Congrats SiouxMD.
  21. mikejm- Some good comments but here's an interesting statistic on last night with goal breakdowns: PP Goals: 2 (Oshie, Zajac) 4th Line Goals: 2 (Martens, Zajac) 3rd Line GOals: 1 (Miller) 2nd Line Goals: 1 (Watkins) 1st Line Goals: 0 So, your argument thus far that the first line needs to be broken up is valid but not for the reasons that they make all our eggs in one basket. They need to be seperated because they're the only line last night that didn't score a goal 5 on 5! Seriously, though, if the opposition is too busy worrying about our first line, I think our other lines will shine. To whomever it was earlier that said Miller is the next Prpich, I beg to differ. Prpich was a rough and tumble enforcer type that can score. I see the "can score" part of that in Miller's game, but the rough and tumble part fits Kaip better than Miller.
  22. Must be Charmin or maybe Quilted Northern.
  23. Maybe you need glasses?
  24. Goon- No doubt. Can you imagine the type of inconsistency that would ensue? It's bad enough when a linesman calls a penalty on a player that the ref watched and decided not to call. Now you'll have arms flying up everywhere. Whistler- The NHL system works because if the ref can't hack it, they aren't afraid to can his arse. The NHL front office requires the best refs the US and Canada (and to a certain extent, the world) have to offer. You couldn't get away with half the crap the WCHA refs get away with in the NHL. That's why I'm in favor of firing Greg Shepherd and hiring a former NHL ref to administer. Maybe the WCHA can swipe some of the NHL type accountability practices for its officials and the head official can put forth the goal of the WCHA to become as close to the NHL officiating-wise as possible (in both penalty calling and professionalism among officials).
  25. Really? UMTC's O'Brien is listed at 6'2" 184....
