Gonzaga basketball & Spokane is so much different than Grand Forks and Sioux basketball. Gonzaga is Spokane. The city loves the zags and the passion of the fans has taken the program to a new level. I would put the atmosphere in @ Zags games up against any in the country. The only other thing available to Spokane is WHL hockey, the chiefs. They like there chiefs, but its nothing like sioux hockey. Gonzaga got on the map by going to the Elite eight in the late 90s, and the program has now won the WCC 10 years in a row. Thats what Sioux basketball needs to do to grip the nation and attract recruits. Grand Forks and the university lives off of Sioux hockey and it'll take alot to change that. So anyone thinking that if sioux win a game in the NCAA tourney as a #13 seed that they'll suddenly have all this nation respect is kidding them. It takes alot more than 1 win in the tourney to create a solid program and have the state behind you.

They do, last game i went to there was around 10k and that was against Tri-Cities, their big rival. For a city of 200k+ thats not too hard to fill up. Sioux basketball with the students won't ever get close to the support of Sioux hockey. The key to this whole discussion is the SIOUX name. I don't want to see us give up our tradition for a momentary decision to join the summit. We'll get into the Summit next year, lets worry about that after an actual decision is made on the name and we given the tribes fair shot at keeping the name.

Grand Forks is not a basketball town and NEVER will be. Of course I'd watch UND if they were playing in the tourney one year as an 13th seed. The passion isn't there for basketball, nor do the students support it that much anyways. I now live in Spokane, where Gonzaga has grown to a powerhouse in basketball. The city feeds off of basketball, only because they don't have really anything else to follow. They sell out every game. UND with a couple good years, will never reach this level, because they wont get the support from the community like Gonzaga has. At UND, hockey rules. So forget the Summit, the Summit wants us we have good sports. We'll get in in a year or so, but lets see if we can save the name in the meantime.

We definitely dont need lower our standards and cheap shot anyone, whoever it is. EVEN if its Marvin. But we do need to face him head on and make him own up for his conduct. SCSU would do good just by sitting him tonight. I don't care who we play next weekend, Hakstol will expect Blood/MacWilliam to rough Marvin up. That's the honest hockey that Hakstol has instilled here in UND, owning up for cheap hits and continuing the law of hockey of protecting your stars. Its done in the NHL, minors, juniors, and UND does it as well....If Marvin play's we'll see several UND players go after him.

Again I am amazed that they didn't have a replay, I clearly saw the hit and saw it coming for the several steps Marvin took before hitting Genoway. Bush league to say the least. I thought it was Testiwuide from DU or Bruess from MSUM for a second. Tomorrow night we'll FINALLY see a rough game no doubt about that.
