If we're gonna pick up a dman out of the portal, Koch or Bengtsson are intriguing.  Especially Bengtsson with two years of eligibility remaining.

More pressing is the goalie situation...here are the current goalies in the portal:

    • Chad Veltri, sr, Niagara, 18-16-3, 2.78, .906
    • Luke Lush, sr, Sacred Heart, 14-16-3, 2.69, .899
    • Seth Eisele, sr, Lake Superior State, 3-9, 2.86, .913
    • Zack Rose, sr, Bowling Green, 3-1, 3.44, .891
    • Ben Kraws, sr, Arizona State, 3-0, 2.19, .926
    • Kolby Matthews, sr, RIT, 3-2, 2.82, .904
    • Connor Hopkins, jr, Yale, 0-4, 5.23, .814
    • Ethan Roberts, fr, St. Thomas, 0-2, .869, 4.53
    • Francis Boisvert, sr, St. Lawrence, 0-0, .938, 3.70
    • Henry Baribeau, sr, St. Thomas, 0-0, 1.000, 0.00

I was hoping for the other goalie from ASU to be in the portal and for us to make a run at him.

Eisele is a big goalie I kinda remember him in high school at Stillwater

Don't dwell.....it is what it is. Has been all season.

Exactly usually when a season ends without a championship/frozen four usually I'm sad/mad and thinking about what could have been but this year the feeling is more like yep this was expected. There was never the feeling of hey get a bounce here or there and this team could be in the frozen four. You look at the speed/skill difference of our squad compared to teams like Minnesota and Denver and it looks like Varsity and JV in 2/3 of the roster and quite frankly that is unacceptable for a program like North Dakota. This years team never showed the ability to put consistent performances together 3-4 games in a row. The staff didn't trust guys enough and give them enough opportunity to get the most out of the talent on this roster.

Lot of changes need to be made and it starts at the top we will see if the people in position making those decisions realize it. I'd be perfectly fine with letting Berry go and bringing in a new staff and that is actually the move I'd make but I see that as less than 5% to happen. So realistically Berry and the staff need to realize what they are doing isn't working, how they are playing isn't a recipe for success. You need to trust young players early in the season and give them opportunities to play into to bigger roles even if it seems they may not be ready for those roles let them grow into it. There is no reason James and McLaughlin weren't in the top 6 at the end of the season. There is no reason Constantini was yanked out for every mistake early in the season and James as well, while veteran guys could play awful and get PP time the next game out. There is no reason Strinden wasn't getting regular PT these last couple weeks. Need to implement more freedom offensively, preach playing with speed and creating off the rush instead of chip the puck in and play along the boards.

As much as we have heard about Shaughaby(sp) that Pilgrim is a good player. I know Shaughaby has surpassed TJ Oshie in points or goals and he is certainly a good player. I don’t think he quite has the take over a game type ability that Oshie did.

No and Oshie had a much more physical presence as well as being able to play a more complete game

You don’t mind watching Hermantown, Mahtomedi, and Warroad sandbag every year in A?

I wouldn't put Warroad in that group. Mahtomedi I believe has been the largest school in A for a long time and Hermantown has no excuse with their recent sustained success. Both of those 2 play primarily AA schedules.

Warroad is gonna have trouble getting out of section 8 next year, sounds pretty likely EGF will be back to being the top dog in 8A for the next few years.

I was just typing the same thing. His phone will be ringing off the hook.

Am I correct in thinking that Pilgrim will play for the Chicago Steel in juniors?

Not sure who his rights are owned by

His role probably won't get any bigger but he loves Minnesota. The decision for him will be does he want to play or is alright with being a very small role guy/maybe not getting any minutes for games at a time but being at the program he loves.

Does sound like he wants to play and will explore transfer possibilities

  8. This team has made so many bad/average teams look solid this year

Do Berry and the guys no their season is on the line? No sense of urgency at all. Just a terrible all around effort, the look a mid November Thanksgiving weekend no show, not March conference playoffs where you need to win to the tournament.

Powerplay that was so potent at times this year has really struggled it seems the last 5-6 games or so.

Lineup and lines need a major shakeup, Jamernik with Blake and Gaber is a combo I can't stand. Throw McLaughlin or Schmaltz on there please.

Definitely is, a lot of players will end up playing D1. As it relates to our program….the only uncommitted player i could see is Fischer. Pilgrim looks the part but he’s being spoon fed by shaugabay. His vision doesn’t look the part.

Shaugabay is great but that whole top line brings something. I don't know that I'd offer Pilgrim or Marvin-Cordes yet but I'd definitely be in contact and making sure they know we are interested, really like Comstock too but size will likely hold him back and the freshman Hontvet will be one to see how he develops. Heavy contact with Reierson and Lindberg of Moorhead too. Edina has a freshman West that is one to track. Hill has a couple younger guys and then the goalie Erickson is one I could see popping up in JRs. Cathedral had a couple solid Sophs. Tonka and Andover I think everyone is committed but Scheetz is a guy I really like and he is another one Vermont got committed early, they have been very active in MN last couple years.

I wouldn’t trade Brad Berry today for any current head coach coach in D1 college hockey. If you would, who would be your guy?

Hastings, Motzko, Carle off the top of my head
