Said that type of player, not necessarily him specifically , you must have misread. This team is lacking finishers. Seeing 40 shots at the chest of the opposing goalie per game hoping for a random tip or deflection isn't a consistent formula to winning, at least not for this team. This team needs players that can cash in a higher percentage of shots. But since you brought it up, I would take Wilkie over 5-6 of the forwards that have played regularly this season.

Wilkie looks like he physically matured during the last couple years. He had a high school build his first 2 years at UND. Criticize his theatrics but he is exactly the type of player UND is desperately missing this year, which is a guy with a scorer's touch. He reminds me of Mismash a little bit except when he misses a shot it isn't 3 feet wide off the glass. A win is a win but it is amazing how hard UND has to work for goals (deflections, etc). The skill just isn't on the team this year to convert breakaways, 2 on 1's, etc.

Addition by subtraction. Tough to believe that Rieger isn't in the lineup. At least he plays with heart and energy.

I think actual butts in the seat will be 3/4 full tonight. The team hasn't been home for awhile and frankly alot of the casual fans don't realize what happened last weekend. If they come out flat tonight with a 2-1 or 1-0 loss, tomorrow night could get ugly.

This and the PA guy doesn't have to bellow out announcement after announcement during every nanosecond that play is dead. Isn't there an organ somewhere in the joint? Have that thing play occasionally during puck stoppages.

"A stinker series"....implies that the team has only had one stinker series this season which is delusional. They needed OT and a pile of power plays to beat Manitoba at home......a loss and a tie against Bemidji (where UND mustered 2 total goals)....swept at home by Western Michigan (2 total goals scored).....and swept by Canisius (say that out loud and let it sink in.....once again scoring 2 total goals in the series). Losing is bad enough but the losses aren't even close to entertaining. But keep telling yourself there's only been one clunker series, the UND administration appreciates your willingness to accept mediocrity

You are making my point for me. Losing a single player one year early, even a great player like Jost is not the reason they missed the playoffs. The chronic lack of production from the Hoffs, Yons, Bowens, Janutenieuns, Simonsons, Adams, etc is what causes a team to miss the playoffs. A good team should not need a top 10 draft pick just to make the playoffs in college hockey.

Are you honestly saying that a premier college hockey team should fail to make the playoffs when they lose only 1 player earlier than expected........honestly? Keeping in mind that making the playoffs only requires you to be in the top 16 of 60 teams, in a division littered with such juggernauts as Robert Morris, Canisius, Alabama Huntsville, etc. In a sport like basketball where one player can dominate almost every minute of the game, sure, but in hockey that is ridiculous.

That some fans still point to one single player leaving early as an excuse for where this team is at is sad. It's a bunch of crap. The current players were all highly regarded players which is how they got here in the first place . When someone comes to UND on an academic scholarship and doesn't produce, they can stay but they aren't guaranteed grant/scholarship money.....preferred research projects....etc....so not sure why the same isn't fair when it comes to athletes on athletic scholarships. Berry needs to make it clear to 5-6 of these guys that yes you can stay but don't plan on getting any scholarship money or playing time and the problem will resolve itself.

It's not that the defensemen are that unbelievably great (they are very good)....it's that the forward group is historically weak when looking at the last 20 years. Put Mismash on a UND team from 10-15 years ago and he's playing on the 4th line with the Massens and Radkes of the world. If the defensemen can't score no one scores so of course the defensmen need to press.

This team needs Gersich back to sleep with one of the players girlfriends to light a fire and get this team back to mediocre.

Correct. He's in the NHL club now. Regardless of whether someone thinks it's justified or not, once you are in it's not a matter of if but it's a matter of when you will be recycled into another job.

Skip the game and go throw your money away at one of the riverboat casinos instead.

I think Shaw walks on his own after the year. As basically a package deal, he kept his kid rostered and playing regularly for 4 years so his work at UND is done. He will be back to being some assistant to the assistant in the NHL next year.

So with parity setting in, UND fans should expect parity when it comes to ticket prices, donation levels, and concession pricing?

This. Alot of parents out there don't realize that you don't get those last few years of your kids being at home back. If your kid is one of the 1-2 truly elite kids in town for their age then send them to a better team. But for every one of those cases, there are 10 that sent their fringe talented kid to some obscure second/third tier junior team to have some other family finish raising them where they burn out long before any college comes looking for them.

With Bubba there is always a chance. After the epic 2nd half playoff meltdown against Richmond I will never underestimate Bubba again.

If NDSU ran their football program as ineptly as UND does NDSU would still have Bob Babich as coach because they would be happy with mediocrity.

Very hit or miss for sure. When they are off they give the Tavern in Canad Inn a run for their money.
