  1. Congrats to the Davies parents......despite your actions......you still lost......you lost a good coach.....and you set a horrible example for your kids.
  2. Central has an amazing wrestling coach right now Coach Welsh. The guy is upbeat, puts a ton of time into the program, and gets that winning isn't the only thing that matters. Central also has a ton of volunteer/minimally paid assistants that are always willing to open up the gym early before school or even on weekends to give the kids a chance to workout if they want. Frankly, I'm not sure there's an overabundance of talent at Central but Welsh gets the wrestlers to perform up to their ability. RR just finished it's first season with new coach Andrew Kennedy, who was previously an assistant at Central. Kennedy is another class act. Once again, I don't expect to see RR knocking off Bismarck at State anytime soon but Kennedy will do a good job building the program there. Grand Forks is very fortunate to have the wrestling coaches that they have.
  3. Somewhere DaveK is blasting Whitesnake Here I Go Again on a Kenwood cassette deck.
  4. You nailed it especially the part about privatization pricing people out of sports. Traditionally when the school boundaries were more equal (socio-economically) Central and RR would battle back and forth in most sports. Personally I think that is healthy for a town. The alternative is you can have a situation like in Fargo where Fargo North is basically dead. It's not like South end kids are genetically superior to everyone that lives north of Demers......well actually these days could almost say north of 17th Ave S. However, they do tend to have the parents that prioritize sports AND have the means to provide them with the best opportunities to improve their skills (camps, elite teams, etc). It's not the parents or kids fault that they have the resources to do this, it's just the way the town is growing. I think you are also spot on with your idea that Grand Forks needs to switch to more of an East/West mentality rather than the traditional North/South mentality unless people want to see Central wither away.
  5. Never said I hate it, just not interested in it. Judging by the talk in this thread (or lack of it about girls hockey) I'm not alone in that sentiment. Don't be mad at me that you are stuck watching girls hockey.
  6. Ignorant much? The Grand Forks girls team has never won a state championship yet you are somehow trying to argue they've enjoyed the benefit of home ice? If home ice matters that much shouldn't they at least have won one title based on it being such an advantage? The best teams tend to win regardless of the location.
  7. Grand Forks only has 2 teams. GFC won 14-0.....not sure they would have won by anymore in the Ralph so your logic = wrong. Once again, ND High School hockey has one loaded team this year....a team that would be great during any historically time period.....that arena played in doesn't matter. The gap between one and the rest is magnified even greater with the rest of the state consisting of some nice teams but not particularly strong teams.
  8. In 1994 a Central team that had two Panzers and O'Connell on it (all 4 year UND players) lost to Fargo South in the title game when the South goalie stood on his head. Anything is possible but it seems unlikely that anyone comes with 4-5 goals of Central because overall, the level of hockey has declined in ND. Back then the RR's, GPR, and South's were always a threat.....not so much now.
  9. I think he's proving he can score which is more than many of the guys that didn't leave UND can say. Maybe realized he didn't fit in with the 3-4 goals a season grinder mold that is clogging up the Junior/Senior class. Regardless of one's thoughts of Wilkie for leaving, one can't really argue with the fact that we was shown development.
  10. Well if he's the next Chris Wilkie he'd currently be tied for 2nd on this year's UND team in scoring (15 points) and leading the team in points per game since he has those 15 points in only 17 games. There's a sobering stat for you to spin Stoney!
  11. They wouldn't, but he would catch plenty of heat even with the excellent track record.....that's just how big time college sports are. As you cited, Berry doesn't have that track record so it's not irrational, though it is unlikely, that he would be gone after 2 missed NCAA's.
  12. Not really. Irrational is expecting people to keep shelling out premium money ($1000+ a year for tickets.....$8 for beers.....etc) for a non-premium product. It would be like Kansas missing the NCAA basketball tournament 2 years in a row........
  13. That's why I said a Tyler Hirsch type of thing. Tyler Hirsch wasn't disciplinary, he went bonkers. Hope that's not the case but at this point it's clear it's not a physical injury.
  14. Almost has to be grades or a Tyler Hirsch type of situation at this point.
  15. Keane has shown more in limited action this year than JJ has shown in 3 years.
  16. It's sounding like you have heard right. I've heard rumblings that it got to the point where the administrstion was trying to dictate starting lineups and who should play/not play to the Davies coach and he wasn't gonna have any of it.
  17. It was a jab at the Schlossman types who thinks faceoffs won and shots on goal make up for the growing number of losses.. Gardner is not a top line center and this season has shown that. On a "normal" strength UND team from years past, Gardner would be a 3rd or 4th line center even as a senior. By default he's pushed up to top line this year.
  18. Yeah but at least he wins the majority of his faceoffs.....unfortunately shuffling the puck back to other guys that can't score.
  19. Very interesting. Hard to believe that there's no room for a 2nd round talent like Donovan but there is room for an overager. Wonder if one of the highly heralded forwards isn't coming in next season?
  20. Don't underestimate Haga.
  21. That is really sad. You are always gonna have those one or two parents on any team that cause friction......I think coaches expect it. But when it gets to this level it's a sad deal and the saddest deal is the jerk parents that caused it are oblivious to how big of jerks they really are.
  22. So if the going rate truly is $200k........why is she so willing to work for $114k....and even relocated to the ND tundra several years back to take such an "underpaid" spot? But since she's a theater major at least we know she's qualified.
  23. So Chase has stolen the limelight the last couple days, but what's the real story behind the Fargo Davies coach quitting weeks before the end of the season?
  24. Sure there would have .........lol.
  25. No. Jeff Panzer won't coach RR due to his family tradition at GFC.
