HD does it justice... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PQwsvFWaXk

Not rivals with those schools? You are a fool. If I were the BTN I would definitely want to push for a hockey conference. Besides, HD hockey is awesome. As for the Gophers losing money from FSN, that could still be part of the deal, especially since BTN probably wouldn't pick up all games. FSN is essentially = BTN when it comes to money, as FSN owns the majority of BTN. No one was saying that money equaled success, I don't know where you got that from. It's more like the tradition of the University as a whole, and success in other big time sports would allow them to be successful. The Big 10 conference would instantly be a powerhouse and give schools like OSU and PSU a big jump in recruiting power. It would be like the top teams in the WCHA basically, except the market for all of those schools is huge. You wouldn't find games not selling out.
-
Exactly. I forgot to talk about the Big 10 Network and how successful that has been as of late. The allure of every game being televised on a great network would be huge and would help PSU get off it's feet faster than anyone would think. B10 would be a powerhouse.
-
Oh absolutely. But you'd have to think their first recruiting classes would already be better than those that BSU/MSU/SCSU brings in, or at least close. It wouldn't be long at all, PSU is big time in everything else, I don't see why hockey wouldn't come FAST
-
I probably wouldn't go to CC. I'm hoping we have a home series, then I can just use my tickets, but that's looking like a little bit of a stretch right now. I'm hoping for series here in Minneapolis, then flight to Phoenix
-
I didn't say UMN was better, that wasn't the argument. I'm saying the history of Penn State (not hockey), would be a much bigger draw then the hockey history of programs that really have none to speak of. I'm also not saying they can't hang with any team, they can. Kind of playing devils advocate here because a change would be a pain, but at the same time it would be kind of cool. The revenue a B10 hockey conference would get would be unbelivable.
-
That's why I said I'd go If it was CC, it would be hard to justify that. That is my first weekend of the two for spring break, so a little travel wouldn't hurt but I'll probably be headed down to Scottsdale right after the series.
-
The history of the University itself would much outweigh the hockey "history" at a school like BSU/SCSU/MSU-M. You seriously think the "history" of those 3 schools is anything to call home about? Absolutely not. It would be hard to turn down a school with the caliber of Penn State, hockey withstanding, especially in comparison to BSU/SCSU/MSU-M. Now if you're talking UND or something, of course the history of the Sioux would outweigh anything Penn State has to offer because that history is so deep and impressive. Obviously there's no way to know for sure, but I can't see many people going to BSU/SCSU/MSUM or whatever over PSU. Besides, if a B10 conference forms, the competition would be just as much, probably more, than the WCHA minus UMN and UW.

Just because they've beat us, doesn't mean they aren't no name universities. I never once said that anyone should bow down to the Gophers, but to say many schools have the history of the University of Minnesota would just be foolish. How do I have no sense of knowledge of history of the WCHA with that comment? Just because I wouldn't personally care if we left some of those teams behind doesn't mean it wouldn't be leaving history behind. I'd just rather play Big 10 teams, that's all. The WCHA would be very missed because of it's history, but it might be all for good in the long run. Penn State would easily catch up to schools like SCUS/MSU/BSU, who do you think kids would rather play for? Penn State in the Big 10, or Bemidji/MSU/SCSU? I'd take the Big 10 and a much more sought after education.
-
And he lives in Grand Forks. My point exactly
-
I'd much rather be in the Big 10 conference and play big teams like that as compared to no name universities. I'd miss playing UND but that's really about it.
-
There's nothing else to do in Grand Forks...
-
The Gophers will be there. I'll go to wherever our first round games are and guarantee that.
-
I'm not selling CC short as much as I am thinking how desperate our team is for a sweep.
-
Every single Gopher game is televised. They played us okay on Friday, but they play a lot of teams decent one night and tend to pull off a tie or win. I don't doubt they played DU well, but I think these games mean so much more to us that we just won't lose. Agree to disagree, and we'll see.
-
Our defense barely escaped AA? I thought our defense played decent actually, did you watch? AA's goals were weakkkk. That being said, if Kangas steps it up back to early season form, I see no reason that we wouldn't sweep CC. CC has been a huge disappointment all season, whereas we have just been bad as of late, but still show occasional bursts of being great.
-
Oh absolutely, I agree with you 100 percent. If you put him in against the Sioux, he gives up just as many (probably more) goals. But that's not the games I'm talking about. I totally agree those were due to traffic cone defenders and some of the most breakaways I've ever seen. I'll blame defense for the high goal totals in the UND and Mankato series. But Wisconsin (and even AA) fall on Kangas. Although he didn't give up a ton of goals, the ones he did were TERRIBLE. Both last night and the night before were very nonchalant. The one yesterday where he got beat short side was horrific. He has been playing terrible as of late. By the way, when Patterson has been in against those teams, he has done quite well. Kangas just seems to be in some type of mental funk, making ridiculous mistakes that no Division 1 goalie should ever make. The D has been better these last 2 series and we've been getting more scoring opportunities, even though, I know, we only have 3 points the last 2 weekends. That being said, if the D continues to improve and Kangas gets his head on straight, I see no reason why this team can't return to early season form and make a serious run. It can really go either way, who knows, that's the beauty of it!

2 UND slaughters this weekend.

Friday Denver at Wisconsin North Dakota at Alaska-Anchorage Minnesota-Duluth at Michigan Tech Minnesota at Colorado College Saturday Denver at Wisconsin North Dakota at Alaska-Anchorage Minnesota-Duluth at Michigan Tech Minnesota at Colorado College 4 sweeps this weekend, I know it's not likely but we'll see how it goes: DU @ Wisconsin - The BADgers are in desperation mode and will be tough to beat at home. DU just hasn't proved a whole lot to me lately, and Connelly has shown that he can steal a game or two (see: Minnesota series). BADgers eek out a win on Friday, and ROLL Saturday. UND @ AA - AA is not good, not good at all. Taking 3 points from them this weekend was embarrassing, the goals they scored were nothing to call home about. Sioux continue to roll (that hurts to say) and take care of AA EASILY both nights, allowing only 2 goals on the weekend and scoring upwards of 6 or 7 UMD @ Tech - I'll never predict Tech to beat or tie anyone, so that's how it's going to have to happen. finally... Minnesota @ CC - This is the week KANGAS gets back on track. Although he let in some horrible goals this weekend, at least he didn't give up 6+ per night, which should have helped his confidence a little bit you'd think. I'm putting CC in self-destruct mode and the Gophers in desperation mode. I see 2 BIG wins for us this weekend, Kangas allowing no more than 2 goals per game and Schroeder having another huge weekend.
-
Nice work. We going to do the WCHA tourney/F5 too? That'd be a nice touch.
-
No doubt. Another horrible game for Kangas and we got the win. We won't be going anywhere if he continues this play, maybe make the tournament and if so, 1 and done. Now if he goes back to early season form....watch out
-
Tough thing to happen, get well soon man.
-
If it started today I don't think there's any way they put the Sioux here in Minneapolis, since we would be here.
-
HE damnit.

I wish I could.
