Luckier, fortunate, puck luck whatever you want to call as they have been blessed the past several years with a number of their tournament games going to OT and them coming out on top.
The reality of sports is that the best team doesn't always win. In college hockey very seldom does the number one overall seed win the whole thing.
On a separate note for years UND fans have complained that BC always had an easy path to a Frozen Four by getting to always go through Worcester in their backyard. This goes to show that just having a regional in your backyard is a guaranteed ticket to a Frozen Four, you need some puck luck as well.
Good assessment. However Hakstol's teams were notoriously slow starters and took half a season or more to get going. They had the luxury of doing that because the parity that exists today was just starting to emerge then. With the parity that exists today some of those teams probably don't make the tournament in today's environment.
Hatred for the gophers isn't the same as it was before the split. I would be ok if they won that being said hoping for Duluth/St. Cloud title game to keep it in the NCHC.
Did I miss something because to some it seems like Duluth won the national championship last night? They still have two more to do that and it is not a given. Last I checked it took Sandy 10 years to get his first and another 7 to get his second. Berry is doing a hell of a job.
The only thing missing from the NDSU offense right now is the option as they will be a run 98% of the time here on out because they sure as hell can't throw it. Where is Rocky when you need him
My point was NDSU isn't what they have been the last decade. Noland is atrocious. Playoff game 2 minutes left down by 4, you trust him to lead you to a win? They won because of their o line and despite the QB play not because of it.
These polls are a joke. NDSU is not the second best team in the country not with the QBs they have rumming out there. Noland would be lucky to make Mayville States program. Props to them for winning on Sat but they are a shell of their prior teams.
