Nick Saban said it best "Do we have show dogs or hunting dogs" Huntings dogs are focused on discipline, commitment, accountability doing the right things and getting better. Show dogs are focused on themselves. Hak had hunting dogs (Berry had hunting dogs very early in his HC career) but now it seems like we have guys who are "show dogs". Hak got 110% out of players who stepped up and understood the task at hand and it seems like Berry isn't great at getting the most out of his players. I sure hope that Berry can get the team to turn it around but at the moment it doesn't look promising.

The thing is the team hasn’t played well enough to make anyone believe that they will go on a run. If they have a hard time winning out of conference games, what is going to make us as fans believe they will win conference games?

Nope not true. When you play non conference games early in the season the pairwise means a lot. As someone posted earlier, Schlossman’s article in March will read something like this “#17 North Dakota would be playing in Fargo this weekend had it not been for the Nov 22nd game against RMU”.

You’re 100% correct that people always wanted Hak fired and now they are the same ones that want him back.

I do like national titles but being consistent and getting to the national tournament (and winning some games) is the first step.

5 years as a head coach, 2 frozen fours, 1 title and not missing the national tournament. Not really the same as Berrys record. However, if you took Berrys first 5 years vs Montgomery’s, I’d take Montgomery.

How well have those 4.5 star recruits worked out for B10 schools? B10 schools ain’t winning nattys. We need to stop worrying what other schools do and get the right players and playing the ones you recruit. Instead of relying on portal transfers for important positions, trust your recruiting and get them to play hockey at 110% every game.

How many years are we getting players ready for future roles? This notion of “these players need time to adjust” mentality is sickening. In college hockey every game is huge (especially non conference games) and everyone needs to bring their A game.

You are right, it shouldn’t be tolerable but most people that go to the games are there to socialize, same as those “destination” games. It’s the same reason fans go to Target field. i don’t think any of us are dying for a national title every year but the expectation of being in the top 3 in our conference and doing good in the national tournament is something that should be the standard.

We are experiencing the late 80’s and early 90’s all over. The difference is, we have a fancy arena that makes the crap on the ice acceptable to watch. The only way Berry is replaced as HC is if he leaves or retires. The AD doesn’t have the balls to do it and Berry had Kris Engelstad in his corner.

Fair points. If UND ever decides to move along from Berry, a young and upcoming coach would be my pick.

Should we hire from within the "family" again? I get that we have a lot of alum that have gone on to have good success but maybe it's time to look outside the "family".
