So the WCHA re-claimed it a week later after the Sioux lost at Denver on a Friday night just in case Minnesota happened to win on Saturday night and the Sioux lost?

I'm fairly certain the Cup resides at the winner's school until the league reclaims it. I've seen it displayed in Mariucci Arena (the old one) before as well as UND. In 1997, the Sioux led the WCHA most of the way and were awarded the Cup I believe in Denver on a Friday night after clinching at least a tie. The next day, the cup was shipped to Minneapolis in the event of a Gopher win and a Sioux loss, which would make Minnesota co-champions. It happened...and the Gophers skated with the MacNaughton on Saturday night. I believe the Sioux were the #1 seed for the tournament and they enacted revenge several weeks later, winning a 4-3 thriller in OT at the old St Paul Civic Center. If memory serves me right, UND kept the cup for 1/2 a season and then sent it to Minnesota.

Why guys who grow up wearing a full cage don't continue to do so once they go pro is beyond me. If 40 stitches and a knocked-out tooth is worth being called "macho," then feel free to call me a wussy boy. Don't take this as a knock on Toews...I just don't understand the macho culture of risking severe inury to your face or eyes.

Someone jump on Joe Senser's and get them to set this up! I can't make the 7:05 pm Sioux/St Cloud start-times as my son has hockey on Friday night until 8:00 pm and again Saturday night until 8:00 pm, but I'd love to show up later and watch Denver pull a rabbit out of their hat!

I actually liked both goalies from the 1997 team. Schweitzer for stepping in and leading the team to the title and Toby K for graciously accepting his role with the team and not complaining. The picture of Toby on the bench hugging Dean Blais near the end of the Sioux/BU game in 1997 is one I won't soon forget.

I bought both the white and green versions. I concur with you, Bob. They're at Cunningham Sports right now getting numbers (both) and and a nameplate (white jersey) sewn on. I can't wait to see the final results.

My favorite part is when the Maverick goalie puts her mit on the Sioux player's facemask as the Sioux player is laying down on her back on the ice (near the end of the video). She does this for 1-2 seconds, then skates away.

I was browsing thru Fight on Sioux today too. What's funny is looking back on the 1970's and early 1980's, you'd swear that as opposed to the nice jerseys that are worn today, it looked like the team wore jerseys screenprinted for your local D league boot hockey team.

I was actually looking at your site earlier today. I was pretty certain the late '80's era home jerseys had a white nameplate with green color block names on the back. The numbers were green outlined in black. I've seen some replicas with no nameplate and letters stitched directly on the back...some green, some green outlined with black, both technically incorrect. Your web site is very nice and was indeed helpful...great work!

Long time listener...first time caller... I'm looking for anyone who can help me out with pics of the backs of the Sioux '87's as done by AZSIOUX. If memory serves me right, the back of the greenies were simply number only...nameplates weren't added to the road jerseys until 1990 or so... Also, if anyone is looking at selling their 1969-1972 WHITE retro jersey as previously done by AZSIOUX, let me know. I purchased the green version and am kicking myself for not getting the white as well.
