  1. "Hello John Oncken John Deere...how can I help you?" "Mr Oncken, you can get a good look at a butcher's a**...wait...chicken wings...we'd like you to be our corporate sponsor for 'John Oncken John Deere Green Out Night' at the Ralph...whaddya think?"
  2. If I wasn't in Minneapolis myself, I'd be happy to assist! There will ALWAYS be visiting fans who muck up the color scheme. Personally, I think it's even more intimidating when you see the flood of green with a spackling of maroon and gold around. Heck, it'd be like Mariucci Arene when the Sioux are in town!
  3. If someone puts their mind to it, this can be done and done EASILY. In the first college football game in their stadium after 9/11, someone in Aggieland at Texas A&M came up with this: If 80,000 football fans can do THAT, surely someone can get 10,000 fans in Grand Forks to do something.
  4. Sheesh, AZSIOUX, did the pay-per-view porno bill get a little too high during the month of July or what?
  5. Did you just use your jersey, skirt, heels, heavy makeup, and enormous wig from your puck bunny days in college on Halloween? Back to the subject, I don't know if they were UND students, but I certainly wouldn't expect to run into UND jerseys being worn at the Bloomington Jefferson hockey practices at the Bloomington Ice Gardens after last season's sweep at Mariucci. One of their coaches (I believe it was of one of the squirt programs) was proudly donning his jersey on Sunday morning. I also had a bet with my son's Kennedy mite coaches and both of them ran Sunday's practices wearing my green and white jerseys. Good times!
  6. Things can always be worse. Four won't be the total death toll. The fact that there are any survivors at all is a miracle.
  7. At 6:00 pm? Not many. It doesn't get much busier in that area than 6:00 pm on a night when the Twins are playing at home. I think everyone in the area knows someone who drives across that bridge at some point during the day. Hearing some of the stories on the news last night was awful. One survivor was talking about walking on the river bank and seeing a dad frantically screaming out loud while searching for his 8 year old daughter. May God bless the victims, both dead and injured, and their loved ones.
  8. Encouraging it and heavily promoting it are two different things. Local businesses where I live prefer maroon and gold.
  9. Winnipeg did start the tradition of the "white-out" during the playoffs and other teams have followed suit. The tradition has carried onto Phoenix, but since the Coyotes haven't sniffed the playoffs recently (no pun intended), you probably haven't seen it on ESPN's highlights. The most-recent version of colorized crowds was for the NBA playoffs this past spring, when Golden State fans wore yellow at home against the Mavericks. Michigan football last year carried the theme of "Go Blue...Wear Maize" for their home games. Maybe a "Go Sioux...Wear Green" campaign would work in Grand Forks?
  10. I'm not mad at all, LennonIsTheMan. That very same web page was mentioned at length on today's 92KQRS morning show in the Twin Cities. In any event, I will revamp my original post to read as such...
  11. Just because I know you are all curious, I present the alleged myspace.com page of Dominic Jones, as mentioned on the 92KQRS radio show this morning in Minneapolis/St Paul... Dominic Jones' Page Just for the record, as of this past Monday, Jones had simply been kicked off the football team and remains on scholarship and enrolled at the U of M. I just wanted to straighten out some of the half-truths here that implied that he had been expelled from the university.
  12. And despite the fact that those charges were ultimately dismissed, the Duke lacrosse coached resigned and the team forfeited its season as a penalty. This is no different.
  13. While we're at it, let's ask Minnesota and Hartford if they are kicking themselves for not drafting Steve Yzerman instead of Brian Lawton and Sylvain Turgeon, respectively, in 1983. My money says John Davidson is busy watching Erik Johnson and can't help but think of Al MacInnis (in terms of potential at this point, obviously). I'm guessing he's not kicking himself just yet.
  14. Um...NDSUguy, the local police department gave a briefing of the incident the other day in which they described the cell phone video recording of the player in question "finishing a sex act on the face of the victim" as she lay passed out on the bed. I'm not sure how much more evidence you need than that.
  15. Who needs $$$ to think about booze, strippers, and all other kinds of debauchery?
  16. Long time listener, first time caller. Great topic for discussion! Let's see... Trip to Louisville KY with my dad for his navy reunion...weekend softball tournament...bought a townhouse and moved...trip to North Dakota for godparents' 50th anniversary party...weekend softball tournament...4th of July in St Paul...trip with the son and some friends to Wisconsin Dells...and wide-open this weekend for a nice change of pace! On top of that, I've been busy coaching my 5 year old son's "coach-pitch" instructional baseball team two nights a week and playing softball two nights a week. Our team is celebrating its 10th year this summer and we wrapped up a league title in Eagan this past Tuesday and hope to win our Bloomington league title on the final night of play next Thursday. Then it's onto regions and state tournament play. Good news, Sioux recruiters, on the son. While he thinks it's pretty cool to play baseball and have dad coach, he informed me the other night that he still likes hockey better and can't wait for his mites team to start up again. I expect that he'll sign his letter of intent sometime next summer. I hope everyone has had a safe and fun summer!
  17. Why stop there? Why don't we require some "sensitivity training," put him on house arrest for 30 days, never let him attend a little league game in Minnesota ever again, and petition our local congressperson to revoke his US citizenship? I'm no fan of Shepherd, either, but this culture of apologize-three-hundred-times and lose your job is a bit much for me.
  18. Unless a major injury happens during another year at UND, then it's gone... I'm all in favor of these kids staying in school, but this isn't exactly a news flash today. I remember when Jason Herter took Vancouver's gigantic signing bonus and I saw him the very next day. Those were his thoughts as well. He was a major injury away from never playing hockey again, but if he signed that day, it was plenty of cash in his pocket. It's hard to say 'no' and I respect the Greg Johnsons and TJ Oshies of the world who can resist the greenbacks.
  19. If the Thundering Herd took the field this fall with new pants and a "tribal-inspired pattern" on them, what would your first impression as to the origination of the word "tribal" be? You sound like another character who is willing to decry "cartoonish" logos of Native Americans as derogatory while at the same time chuckling at the Fighting Irish logo because it isn't really an Irishman, it's a leprechaun. You can't have it both ways.
  20. Sue Bird...definitely better looking than Larry (no relation)... Outside of the fact that she eats guys like me for a snack, Lauren Jackson is kinda hot...
  21. Yea...I thought it would be a cool place to pick up chicks.
  22. That's all that's needed, my friend! It's just like getting into a good political discussion. To win, you just blurt out "well you're a racist" to the other party and automatically, everything they say after that becomes null and void. Good-bye Indians, hello Arkansas State SwampDogs, SkyHawks, or SunBirds.
  23. This isn't stop-the-presses news, but I thought it was interesting that the Star and Sickle, er, Star Tribune didn't seem to be upset by this. The Minnesota Lynx have changed their uniform and added a "tribal pattern" (GASP!) signifying the face of a Lynx. Did a tribe approve of this? Any specific tribe? Was a tribe consulted at all on its design? Lynx New Uniform Article Lynx Shop - New Jersey with "tribal inspired side pattern" In fact, if you check out the entire shop site, every single team is sporting the "tribal inspired side pattern." Very interesting, I thought...
