Wow, that really is a sad story. Imagine someone telling you at 19 or 20 years old that your dream of doing what you want to do isn't going to happen...EVER. I probably would have lived in a continuing cycle of depression, drugs, and despair if someone told me my dream of pushing pencils and paper for the government was never going to be a reality. Or not.

The Gophers are struggling...which makes them much more dangerous at home this weekend than usual. It will take a big effort to sweep Minny this weekend. Head-to-head, the Sioux have pretty much been dominated 4 of the last 6 periods against the Gophers and in all honesty, were lucky to gain a home split in December. Bring the game faces this weekend, boys, and things will be just fine!

The final votes are in. My son's Schwans sales totalled $448.64, 33% of which went directly to offset his hockey fee this year. For those keeping score at home, that's $148.05. I want to thank those SiouxSports.com members who participated in this fund-raiser. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated! Just for kicks, here's a snippet of an actual conversation I had with someone at Bloomington Ice Gardens a few weeks ago (since its well-documented that I'm the biggest Sioux fan there): Parent: What are you going to do if your kid grows up and plays hockey at Minnesota? Won't you still cheer for him? At center...for your Golden Gophers...number nineteen... Me: I'll be in the stands at Mariucci beaming with pride as I watch my son take the ice. Then, when they do pre-game introductions, I'll boo his a** like the rest of the Gophers!

They will build a third hockey arena on the U of M campus before spending a single taxpayer nickel to assist with putting one in Bemidji.

It's the only women's program in the country with its own arena. Even UConn women's basketball shares its court with the men. But not in Minnesota, that's not good enough. Can anyone recall the cost to build? UMD can't get a new arena to save its life without the city of Duluth ponying up for it, but we can build a separate women's facility at the almighty 'U'.

Note to Montana and Montana State: Stop recruiting thugs and punks.

How much impact did building a second hockey arena on campus affect Minnesota's budget?

Oh, I get now. They changed the rule to something better for the next season. Meanwhile, we somehow call for the WCHA to rectify its mistake by making an after-the-fact change. I'm confused.

Yea, why waste time with second-rate programs like Minnesota when BSU can schedule a powerhouse like the Rochester Institute of Technology.

It's not just fans perpuating that myth, mksioux. AD's and coaches could help out by actually having Minny play the WCHA Final Five semi-final how the seedings say they should instead of allowing them to buck the system.

Gopher fans aren't any different than Sioux fans. If the Sioux weren't in the Final Five (and they weren't just a couple of years ago), I would still go, but obviously plenty of green and white fans would stay home. Same thing with Wisconsin fans. I'm not sure what conspiracy theory you're touting here, Cardinal. If the Gophers don't make it attendance will go down. Where's the theory in that?

In a related story, Cardinal is also reporting that the WCHA will be cancelling the Final Five if Minnesota does not advance to the tournament.

I didn't hear the actual comments but if true, definitely something I'd expect to hear from Minnesota. Frankly, it's too bad UND just didn't invite St Cloud or Wisconsin to break in the new REA.

Good points, Goon. I expect Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State to be applying for membership into the MAC any day now since none of them can beat Ohio State in football on a regular basis.

Mankato is definitely an easy ticket and there are plenty of Sioux fans in the house!

I thought the idiots were in the student section at the Artist Formerly Known As Midwest Wireless Civic Center. Thanks to my next-to-the-student section tickets, I was treated to the following catchy cheers: F*** the Sioux! Sioux's a girl's name! You f***in' cheat! and, the all-time classic... Hang the Sioux! Given Mankato's sad history with treatment of Indians, I was especially unnerved by the last chant. Mankato Sioux Indians Hanging While I enjoy a good road trip and Mankato is an easy ticket for Sioux fans, sometimes, it takes everything in me to not go punch some moron in the face. The one saving point for last night's game was the student behind me yelling "WHAT A PATHETIC POWER PLAY!" two seconds before the Sioux scored a goal on that very same power play. Hilarious. Good sweep for the Sioux. Let's keep things rollin' vs UAA next weekend!
