I say there is ZERO chance that UND academia nuts and name-change groups will even remotely consider the thought of naming the team after a group of WHITE soldiers who charged up a hill and killed SPANISH soldiers. Zero.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314901,00.html If the Lehigh Valley IronPigs can't avoid controversy, what are the odds that UND can't?

Breaking news? Wow. In other breaking news, Toews had a ham and cheese Hot Pocket for dinner.
-
Smart money? Sure, the first thing you want to do in a college town is alienate 1/2 of its residents by naming the team after one of the two rival high schools in town. Can you imagine the Washington Cowboys? Minnesota Blackhawks? Los Angeles Celtics? North Dakota Green Knights? Neither can I.

I just threw up in my mouth a little...twice.
-
Backing my point, thanks, I appreciate that.

That's one article...Mark Rosen was beaming on his sports report the other night talking about all the Gophers...no mention of North Dakota at all. I shouldn't be surprised...Mark also is a big lobbyist for MLB pitcher Jack Morris to go into the Hall of Fame wearing the Twins "M" cap, he of the 18-12 regular season record and World Series title in 1991 with Minnesota. Gimme a break.

I look at it this way: Would you be more likely to refer to Ray Bourque as "former Avalanche player" or "former Boston Bruin"?
-
I've seen it (resisted touching it since I've never won it and don't have my name on it)...and I saw the 3,000 people who waited outside of the UW-Eau Claire hockey arena to see it too back in 2008. I beg to differ with your assessment.
-
Because the bulk of the success of their career was with North Dakota, that's why. Of course, given local media here, if you spend 15 minutes with the Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, Vikings, or Gophers, you're 'former insert-team-name-here' status automatically.
-
Saw the report on several local TV stations here in MSP and in the Pioneer Press...embarrassing that in every single case, they were referred to as "former Gopher players...". Simply embarrassing to be reported as such.
-
I guess that's one opinion... http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2009-11-19/brendan-shanahan-it-was-just-me-my-dad-and-stanley

Troling with negativity? Cmon, come January, you FIT RIGHT IN with the rest of the bunch on the board here...team has no heart, players suck, Hakstol's an idiot, we have the best arena, we have the best fans and deserve better...
-
Roger that, I assumed that since that account no longer appears on the member list. So you're sayin' there's a chance I could move up from being forever known as member #44...
-
The Red Wings are still off-limits.
-
I take back any negative comment I have said about you...ever...
-
So has Watchmaker's name been removed from the Roll of Honor (aka the 'member list')?
-
What do you think of Carolina's new jerseys? My first thought? EPIC FAIL.
-
Probably the result of a slew-foot from Andrew Shaw...he's good at that.
-
Now, now, Goon...it's ok, lots of people our age listen to Justin Bieber...I'm not one of them, but I don't judge you for being a fan.
-
Hey, Goon, that reminds me...I sent you a PM regarding the Barbra Streisand and Justin Bieber tickets you wanted...
-
Eddie and Commie both won national championships while AT North Dakota...in addition to after LEAVING North Dakota. Same with Tony Hrkac...there is a difference...

I know Kane was a pretty worthy choice as playoff MVP, but I thought Chara was really the best player on the ice in this series...for Chicago, not Boston, that is.
-
Interesting statement of your own since both teams have 8 players who are over 30 on their roster. Obviously I'd trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg and their age straight up for Kane and Toews and their youth but the best Red Wings in the Chicago series were younger guys like Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist. Given that this was supposed to be a 'rebuilding' year in Detroit, I think most Red Wings fans would say the results this playoff run give fans optimism heading into 2013-2014.

I concede that the Blackhawks and Fighting Sioux have kind of a shared history with respect to players like Troy Murray, Ed Belfour, and Toews, not to mention the logo connection going back several decades. What jersey is it that you've been wearing that gets you noticed? Is it a Blackhawk-style from the 1970's or 1980's? Fixed the last sentence of your post, too...
