Yea, OK, so on the 5, 10, and 15 year reunions of Michigan's 1998 title team, I get a 'thank-you' card in the mail signed by Marty Turco and Red Berenson. It could have happened to anybody...unfortunately, I was chosen to wear this albatross around my neck.

I swear, not even a fiery crash involving the Bears player bus and Packers player bus in two weeks could get the hapless Lions into the playoffs. Unbelievable how many times a team can shoot itself in the foot when all stars had aligned in their favor this season.

For those doubting my elephant-like memory when it comes to hockey, I recall Moscow Dynamo rolling into town in 88-89 and Justin Duberman recording a hat trick in what was a very entertaining 5-7 loss for the Sioux. Commie b*stards! -

10/15/88 shows a home 5-4 win over Northern Michigan. I'm going to sit down tonight and examine all tie games UND was involved in from 1988 to 1992. Not sure where I'd ever begin to find a boxscore. -

Greg Johson - 18 goals and 61 assists that season. Dixon Ward - 34 goals, 35 assists. Russ Romaniuk - 40 goals, 28 assists. Jeff McLean - 19 goals, 26 assists. Jason Herter 11 goals, 26 assists. Justin Duberman 19 goals, 18 assists. Dane Jackson 17 goals, 9 assists. 24-17-2 record - disappointing finish to what looked like a great team going into the season. Brent Bobyck, Garry Valk, Russ Parent, and Lee Davidson were all gone from the prior year though. -
Couldn't agree more. What player for Dickinson State, Minot State, or even Williston State College wouldn't mind a road trip to Grand Forks? It would certainly generate more fan interest than Presentation College.

Yea...cuz that Valpo game really showed what kind of caliber team UND has this season...

I'm about 99% sure it was the 5-0 comeback in the 1990-1991 season...pretty certain it wasn't a 6-0 comeback in the 1991-1992 season. -

OK, so the subject of ties in hockey came up on this site last week (I forget which thread) and I mentioned that the greatest game I have ever seen was a tie. I decided to create a new thread because I can't recall the original thread and it was off-topic anyways... I attended UND from 1988-1992, thusly the game occurred during that time-frame. It came during the down-slide of the Gino era, so I narrowed it down to having been played sometime in 1990-1992. Here's what my memory recalls: UND, after having been destroyed by Northern Michigan on a Friday night, played before a prety dull crowd expecting nothing short of a Wildcat whooping. Sure enough, NMU sends most of the 4,000-4,500 fans scrambling for the exits after they pot a 5th goal en route to a 5-0 lead (again, this is from memory) at around the 15:00 mark of the third period. The student section (what was left of them) stood up and started chanting "LET'S GO SIOUX!" quite loudly. It didn't take long for the Sioux to score, 5-1 at what I recall being the 12:00 mark of the 3rd period. I remember commenting to my buddy "another goal before 10:00 and this could get interesting." Sure enough, 5-2 Wildcats a few minutes later. The place started going nuts when the 3rd and 4th goals went into the net and the Sioux scored sometime around the 2:00 mark to tie it up at 5-5. I remember fans scrambling BACK into the building to witness the comeback. Each team was stoned on a breakaway in OT...the game ended in a 5-5 tie. Northern Michigan skated around like it had lost the NCAA championship game...the Sioux, after shaking hands with the Wildcats, skated over to the student section and gave us a traditional stick circle wave with their sticks (not a true circle but a definite show of 'hey, students, thanks for not giving up on us.' Like I said, to this day, the greatest game I ever saw. Now, here's where it gets interesting and where I need help. The UND media guide, for the 1990-1991 season, says that UND lost AT NMU 6-0 on Friday October 19, 1990, and tied 5-5 on Saturday, October 20, 1990. It lists two HOME losses to NMU, December 16, 1990, by the score of 5-3, and Saturday, December 17, 1990, by the score of 7-4. Now...either my memory is skewed (doubtful) or the UND media guide has the locations of each series reversed. I'm wondering if anyone remembers that particular series or game against NMU in the early 1990's. For what it's worth, UND is listed as playing to a 6-6 tie at NMU on Saturday, January 11, 1992, but same rule applies as that game is also listed as having been played in Marquette. I know what I saw and I know it was Northern Michigan University...

That's not what I recall at all on this site. It was only a few years after the 2000 season that some posters here were saying that Dean had lost his tournament mo-jo, especially after the 2003-04 season ended in disappointment (even though it was a 30-8-3 season).
