  1. If Rocco doesn't turn his head the wrong way after Holl's stick smacks him in the cage, these two teams might still be playing right now...
  2. 1975...Michigan Tech 1988...LSSU 1991...Northern Michigan 1992...LSSU 1994...LSSU I know the gap from 1976-1988 is kind of long, but that's 5 NCAA championships for 'da UP in a span of 20 seasons. It sure would be nice to see those three schools catch lightning in a bottle again.
  3. CC ahead of Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech? Oh boy...
  4. Not sure...but his agent is Steve DeBus, so I suppose anything's possible.
  5. NHL...MLB...NFL...what am I missing?
  6. I think it's already been posted elsewhere but word on the street is that Wilbur is leaving SiouxSports.com early despite having about 50 years of eligibility remaining.
  7. Oh, I agree. There is no way to know for sure. I, for one, wish UND had had the chance, win or lose.
  8. You didn't pick up on the sarcasm, Tiggsy. Here's a recap: Pre-game: Blow-out city...Union's slow...let's roll these clowns... Post-game: Union's better...over-achieved all season long...still a great accomplishment...
  9. And I said it was correct. I also posted on GPL that I would have gladly traded a semi-final loss for a loss in the championship game. That's my opinion. The excitement and build-up of Thursday to Saturday is incredible and the chance to win a title is an accomplishment in itself...even if you wind up on the losing end of the score.
  10. And after... This one was my personal favorite...
  11. Technically correct. From GPL...pre-game... Sounds like fans who were just happy to bring home second place...
  12. 21 years, 11 months for Union. 21 years, 2 months for Minnesota. 9 months. Ironically enough, the same Gopher fans patting Parenteau (who turns 25 in June) and Serratore (who turns 25 in July) on the back for their dedication to Gopher-land were some of the same fans ridiculing Union for having "a bunch" of 24 year olds on their squad. For the record, Union had 2 players 24 years old on their roster - Mat Bodie being one of them. Both just turned 24 recently (Bodie in March and Sam Coatta the day before the tournament started, April 9th). But let's not let facts get in the way of a good excuse...
  13. Well that's weird...I just checked out the first sentence of the opening paragraph of GPL's site and I saw this: http://gopherpucklive.com/ Somebody should change that to read: "...except in 2013-2014 because we lost Haula, Bjugstad, Schmidt, Budish, and Alt to EARLY departures plus Seth Helguson as a senior and no one expected this years Gopher team to be as good as they were."
  14. Pure revisionist Sioux fan history, brianvf. Here's the version from "the other guys' site": UND couldn't be an underdog as no team with 14 draft picks could possibly be seen as an underdog. Therefore, the victory over UND was, in fact, not expected by Gopher Nation, and is something to be celebrated. Secondly, nevermind that #1 ranking for about 95% of the season...this particular Gopher team over-achieved all season long and was fortunate enough just to BE in the title game, let alone have a chance to possibly win it. Their average player age of just over 21 years of age paled in comparison to Union's being just under 22 years of age. Cue the DVD being made: Miracle on Ice 2: The Story of the Cinderella Minnesota Gophers and the 2013-2014 Season!
  15. Rocco transferred to Michigan?
  16. This is indeed a similar thread at GPL. I suppose I could have posted the link to the caringbridge site here... http://www.caringbri...isit/garyshopek
  17. The latest entry (dated April 12th) in Gary's caringbridge site says that he has entered hospice care. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
  18. I tried pointing that out on GPL after a poster there suggested Union was "a bunch of 24 year olds". Minnesota had 2 24 year olds...same number as Union. Then the bar was moved to "average player age" and Gopher lack of experience.
  19. Well, according to some folks on GPL, losing with .6 left on the clock is FAR WORSE than losing the national championship game. Gee...doesn't seem that way.
  20. I couldn't agree more!
  21. I agree on that, sagard. You can't just say 7 > 5 (and Sioux fans LOVE to do that) and call it a day. Another post here somewhere mentioned Yale's "lack of tradition," yet it's the oldest hockey school in the country, with roots back to the late 1800's. That's incredible. And, you're right, Minnesota can't help that there wasn't an NCAA around for a few years. I wish we could go back to those days, for obvious reasons.
  22. Fixed your post, sagard.
  23. Those 1996 and 1998 titles are getting a little stale even though I still think of that as being 'recent.'
  24. Kinda... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8FlBhHjfno
  25. Richfield High School! Back when the Spartan hockey program was still something. Great barn to watch a game in.
