Last year's official party line in Grand Forks was that UND beat NDSU head-to-head so the Bison A) going to the NCAA tournament wasn't a big deal and B) beating Oklahoma in the first round of the tournament was even less of a big deal. Belfield High School's nickname was the Bantams. Never occurred to me in my four years there that my GPA might have been higher if the team had been called Greyhounds, Kings, or Wolverines.

I'd be curious as to how a school sports nickname could "hinder" your education...I knew students during my time at UND who not once stepped foot inside Hyslop, Memorial Stadium, or the old REA.

Is there a scenario that could happen in the Michigan/Michigan State and Minnesota/Penn State series' that would result in the conference imploding? I would think that a Nittany Lion sweep would drop every B10 team out of the top 16, but would a split in Minneapolis do that as well?
