They are? Last I checked, they were making a late-season trade for a 39 year old Flyer who is retiring when the season's over - and giving up two high draft picks to do so!
-
Must be a full-time job keeping track of all those W-2's!
-
Well, let's imagine for a second, David Quinn comes out tomorrow and says that he wishes he could have applied as he would have brought a pipeline of Boston boys and east coast talent to Grand Forks. Do you think it might have been worth at least listening to his plan for success at North Dakota before handing the job to Berry? I think it would be.

Who made those things? They don't look like Hakstol AT ALL! -

Now that makes sense. I still would have liked to see a call made to Mike Guentzel, just to make some GPLers go into panic mode. -

Wondering that myself... -

There have only been 3 (and now 4), so yes, the selection process has gone well. Of course, if Berry doesn't win a title in the next 5 years, we can just have The Sicatoka resurrect one of the many "Fire Hakstol" threads and just change the name in the header... -
As was discussed on NHL Network today. I have said this before and I'll say it again: I'd be happier watching guys who don't get a sniff of the NHL (Matt Henderson, the Hoogsteens, Jeff Panzer) win NCAA titles at UND as opposed to seeing 2 or 3 year players (without an NCAA title) winning Stanley Cups and thanking UND for being a stepping stone along the way.

EVERY coach has stepped in and done a brilliant job? After going 22-7 in his final year at UNH, Rube Bjorkman replaced Bill Selman at North Dakota. Things went downhill rather quickly... -

Speaking of "classy" comments...you know, it's actually possible to disagree with someone without resorting to distasteful comments like that. -

Well? How would you have handled it, Mr. Armchair Coach? -
The %gobc is working the phones on making this happen.

My source tells me that what closed the deal was Hextall telling Hakstol that this would be his opportunity to get back at Goon, Ray77, Blackheart, and the other Bruins fans on SiouxSports.com. "Where do I sign?" was Dave's reply. -
He's rhe first cousin of a guy I think should get an interview: Derek Hoogsteen.

Change of pace from what? See some of the stories about Hak in the "favorite moments" thread.

I'm still curious as to what UNDBIZ would have done as opposed to Hakstol's "a-hole move." -

That just looks weird. -
I'm not sure if this information has made it to Grand Forks yet, but this just came across my screen on the NHL Network...
-
I saw that. Thanks for saving us all.

The flip-side of your coin (for some)... -
Hak stopping in the hotel lobby while on the way to the X in 2010. Not only did he sign my son's jersey, he asked him a question or two about school and hockey, plus made sure the coaches and players had been nice to him while he was busy scrounging around for autographs. The entire team and coaching staff waited two minutes for Hak to finish up an 8:00 am Saturday morning conversation with an 8 year old kid. Thanks, Coach Hakstol, for your dedication to UND, both as a player and a coach. And thanks for making an impression on my boy. He hasn't forgotten that weekend - and likely never will.
-
J,f,r...on a total side-note: nice to see you post again.

No thanks. Berry could single-handedly rescue a busload of orphans from a fiery car accident after the game and some folks at GPL would STILL refer to him as the "classless" coach who flipped off a referee.

Please tell us how he should have handled it. Meets with Flyers on Friday. Schedules team meeting with UND players on Sunday morning announcing possible departure. Flyers hire Mike Babcock on Monday morning. Schedules second meeting with UND players on Monday afternoon telling them "forget what I said yesterday, I'm in it for the long haul in Grand Forks." Recruits don't buy it and bolt because they fear he'll be gone next year anyways. Current players feel he's got one foot out the door already. What's the right way to handle this?
