  1. I don't think it would be appropriate to condemn a player for reacting to being choked. In fact it would be remarkably weird for a player in any sport to not react to that.
  2. Someone help me out. There was a game last year or the year before at Magness where a Denver player clearly dove and drew a penalty on us. I just keep thinking it was Looney?? Anyone remember? We might have the next see-piss here on The Pioneers? ...and I tell ya, it just fits, between the hometown refs, the players-cheap embellishers galore and the FANS!! Holly Crap the number of run-ins I have with the fans at DU. It is truly unbelievable. For 13 years I have gone to every Sioux game played there,-1, and I can say it is constant and pervasive. It's the same M.O. dude everytime. Just vile characters in that crowd...
  3. Everyone keeps talking about how we lost Mark Mac but we not only lost Mark but this was also the first game without Stecher. And if a guy wanted to argue that Stecher was/is the best player on this team it would be very hard to discredit. Now add that to losing Mark Mac and you have the one two punch of the best two players on this team. Having said that we knew Stech was out and I am a little frustrated that Hak did not play Mattson. He is a play maker and Stecher was our QB. We could have used Mattson. Mattson should even play over Thompson as they are very very similar in their skill set and style but Mattson is a senior and has a bit more poise than Thompson.
  4. Haks greatest blunter to date this year: panz over Mattson tonight. Our blue line has gone from offensively dominant to average.
  5. First you suggest a plan of action. Now you say 'may be' where as before you said 'never'. This is good. Much better. There is hope after all!
  6. It's funny you mentioned that... I have that on my bucket list. There are about 5 other plays I have on the chalk board. But as Kenny says, "you gotta know when to hold them" ...I'm not saying I will ever do them. I have ambitions and ideas of how to make a move on this. I would think there are others. Life gets in the way. You need time, money and allies and I will tell you I have been making some good progress on all three. I'm not there yet but I will continue toward that goal. I take the lead from people like coach Hakstol in the way he works toward a goal. Every day try to take a step forward- improve. If there were 10,000 of me in the name corner we would not be in the horrific spot we find ourselves in today. For Christ's sake we had/have the truth on our side. The opposition, the whole lot of them, has nothing more than a house of cards supporting their mandate. It is reprehensible that we are in the place we are. Mawkishly cowering onto a new name, mandated by those who failed us with thier-at least apathy, but more appropriately opposition- to what they should have advocated. The fact that they still lead us is pathetic in and of itself. And yet here we are. Is all we have in us is a resolve to condescend those who chose not to surrender. You all are so good at throwing stones there. Yet conversely, not one person had posted re the incendiary words the chancellor wrote in president Kelly's Performance evaluation. In ANY rational society that man would be fired for writting such a propagandized bunch of lies. But nay not so, only comments charged against people who say the things I do shunning every word as if it the cure to cancer. The funniest thing is I will go and watch the Fighting Sioux open up a can of whoopass on the Pioneers this weekend and personally witness thousands of Sioux fans yell out, "home of the Sioux" wearing their Sioux gear. Only then do I see the truth that I am not alone. Sioux yeah yeah!!
  7. I'm not sure why the idea of saying the word 'never' in the context of future events is beyond me? Maybe it can be explained by the degree of intelligence I possess? Or maybe it is more of the level of disrespect it lends to great minds from Descartes to Mandela?? All I know is when I see someone post something like, "UND can NEVER have a Native American nickname again" I see a person who disrespects the very fact that they breath, unless of course they are, or know of, a god who has decreed such. In which case, that would be quiet impressive!
  8. As long as people like you keep standing in the middle of it proclaiming it is then it will be closed. Until the day people like me come around and tell you to get out of the way. Then there will be a fight and if people like you win the world becomes a worse place where if people like me win it becomes a far better place. And don't tell me the fight already happened. It has not, at least not beyond the land of the Sioux people. I believe the fight is yet to come.
  9. What God decreed that? ....its no wonder we live in the world we do with that kind of thinking. Wow!
  10. Thanks Goon. How has the picture been with those SD games on direct tv? Back before midco switched to HD when they broadcast the games in standard def and sent the feed to direct TV it was a pretty poor picture.
  11. has Dish shown any Sioux games so far in HD? Does anyone know if the games that have been on Direct TV via fox sports have been in HD? I'm looking to get Direct TV, dish or Comcast and I want to pick the provider that gives me the best HD option for the most games...
  12. While I won't proclaim that this team has never been successfully challenged when working from the top of the zone I will say that I haven't seen enough of it to warrant bailing on it. I think it's more about Hak wanting to develop the team to be able to play that game. In his defense one of the main changes I see in the first half vs the second half surge in years past is the way his teams work on the offensive boards. Having said that I still think anytime this team goes away from working the puck up to the top is time wasted at doing what we should be doing to become that much more dominant. I.e. improving at what we're good at has more value.
  13. You are right on re getting the D scoring again. Earlier in the year we were playing a very effective game plan where after gaining the zone we worked the puck to the D-men and they quarterbacked the offense from the top of the zone. Now (especially when we have a lead starting at about mid second period) we are working the puck down low with our forwards and doing the classic Sioux 4check grind it out game. Here is the problem with that. This team is about as bad at board battles as any Sioux team in the past 10 years so playing that style to maintain a lead leads to scarce time in our offensive zone and dangerous situations in the defensive zone(see goals scored from plays off of the boards behind our net). We have seen this play out very clearly over the last month. Now conversely our zone offense where we get the zone and get it up top to the D-men is about as impressive as any Sioux team over the last 20 years. While it is on the surface not the wise thing to do when you are protecting a lead (i.e. moving the puck to the blue line-risking odd man rushes), it is ABSOLUTLY the correct thing to do for this team. Play to your strengths. Sometimes a good offense is your best defense. Oh, by the way, all of this talk about Schmaltz not performing like last year can be explained by the fact that we have focused away from the D-men when in the zone. That is what he is good at.. That is what all of our D-men are frankly awesome at. People keep talking about how this team is overachieving and the number 1 ranking speaks to the parody in college hockey. I disagree. I said it last year and I'll say it again now. We have an outstanding D-core. We need to play to them. We are only a mediocre team when we throw the puck to the boards and try the board battle cycle. That is when we are in parody land..
  14. I need tickets for tonights game if anybody has any.
  15. Thank you!! Hey PTSD crowd read this like 27 times! We need you to stop being scared. Why?, because you all pandering to these fears is going to cost us. Go Spirit!!!
  16. "There comes a time". I love that one. A classic phrase in the if you say it makes it true paradigm. Seems to be taken straight from the Kelly book of tricks right there with " the students want a new nickname" passages. ....let me try, "There comes a time when the wishes of the people of this community should be listened heard AND respected." ...eww that felt so good! Let me try again, "There comes a time when its time for new leadership at UND"...ahhh so fun! I feel the electricity flowing from my fingertips.
  17. Was the FCS broadcast in HD last weekend?
  18. Exactly!!! That's what good people do when they have a gun to their head with a lunatics finger on the trigger. They give them what they want so others don't get hurt!! More the reason we should maybe, just maybe, stand up for them. Just a bit? Because you know, as I know, as we ALl KNOW what they gave up, what they sacrificed, is something they would really really really want back. They sure as f"ck aren't happy about any of it and not letting them keep the pictures on the wall of what they (we) lost is just further insulting them(us). Forcing another name on people is doing just that. They don't want it!!! Kapeesh?
  19. At least the motives of those that want to go without a new nickname are obvoius, understandable, logical and fair. Conversely, the motive for forcing thousands upon thousands of good, god loving, productive members of society to have to live with this lunacy that was in the beginning justified in the name of protecting a group of offended people only to be exposed as actually without a bit of consideration or respect for those very people to the extreme point of getting sued by the group of said victims in an attempt to restrain said lunancy from being imposed on said group. Now there in lies the obvious target of any and all worthy conversations of vague, confused, hidden or ulterior motives.
  20. Not apples to apples and I'm confident you know it..
  21. The NCAA has/is being reigned in as of late. They are definitely moving past a high point of power. It was in the midst of that peak where UND and the Sioux name found itself under siege. I commented in another thread my opinion that the NCAA has extinguished any and all power outside of what is explicitly stated in our settlement agreement. I think that is an important idea which should be considered and discussed by all Sioux fans and by those who seek to distroy the Sioux name..
  22. Worring about what the NCAA will do is PTSD. In much the same way as a victim of a violent crime will have fear about a return visit from their attacker we worry about the NCAA having 'some negative reaction' or 'an issue' with what we do. Like we need to concern ourselves with whether or not we are perceived as "fooling" the NCAA. Beyond the paramaters of the settlement agreement the NCAA has no more plays left with this. They can do nothing. Hakstol can wear a fighting Sioux cap. The NCAA is powerless to effect that. Everyone needs to understand that. The NCAA is not EVER going to decree a single thing policy wise unto us beyond what is EXPPRESSLY stated in the settlement agreement. (I doubt they would say much about it if we violated the agreement because it would open a can of worms they don't want open in that the very people they have proported to protect with their heavy handed, irrational and hypocritical policy have sued them in an effort to block their actions.(See Spirit Lake Sioux tribe vs NCAA)) Our nemesis is no longer the NCAA. It lies in our own bed. We need to look no further than the border of our own city to find the roots of the forces that mire us from becoming who we all want to be. If we declared our nickname was North Dakota and Hakstol joined 12,000 of us and put back on his his Fighting Sioux Hockey cap who do you think would try to threaten him for such actions? The NCAA?? Not only they wouldn't but they couldn't. How about his boss or his bosses boss? Who are we dealing with here?
  23. Murphy over St. Clair is interesting. Let's see what Murphy can do. We can always use more finishers.
