I just watched When They Were Kings on Youtube, and NDSU beat #1 UND in 1981...# ONE UND!!! UND didn't get there on a whim, they had great coaching and players too, then started going downhill with Pat Behrns, it took Roger Thomas, Dale Lennon and patience to bring UND back up to the top of the NCC in 1993, it wasn't no DII scholarship reduction (which I never heard of until Rocky was interviewed for this documentary), it was the players and coaches. Its a roller coaster you go down, and you go up. It happens in every sport but more so in college than the pros due to free agency in the pros. Even UCLA couldn't stay on top of the basketball world forever, same with ND, Miami, Nebraska, etc. NDSU had a roller coaster ride of their own in the past as they didn't win every conference title known to man. I know they love to pinpoint a year and say we have won this many games since x amount of years, but its whatever makes them feel better about themselves, as for UND fans...we know the all time series records and we hold the most wins over all the Big Dakota 3 of the MVFC. In a way this is 1986 (2.0) but this time we are getting the players, and coaches needed to win, and its not going to take us 8 years to get on top. I see playoffs a lot sooner than that.

I guess we will never know until the NCAA forces it in the playoffs. Until then its still in UND's favor.

What happened to UNC, dominate in DII, goes to DI before the SU's and have sucked in football ever since. They have been to the dance but football they are a joke.

I hope this thread stays on topic, I thought we verballed a lot of recruits when I had a bunch of pages to read, turns out most was dribble. Anyways, looks like Bubba is going for lineman, 6 commits already are OL/DL or play both positions. I am glad he is, we need a pass rush, and after what Zenner did to us, we need some run stoppers too. I hope we see more recruits choosing UND.

First thing UND needs to do is fill the dome first (something that hasn't been done consistently since the DII days) then talk expansion.

There is also the Grand Forks Central Maroon and Grey. The lost nickname between the Redskins and Knights. It was a good filler and some nickname ideas played off of the color like Grey Wolves, but never made the final cut. UND could play off its green color like UND Green XXXX, or UND Fighting XXXX . 11 months and 3 days will be the year of the new nickname.

Most MAC stadiums are between 20-40k but only get 10-20k for attendance, if the Alerus did a facelift, added endzone seating (which they only need to add about 2500-3k per endzone) they can get close to 18k. As for the BSC going FBS, Fullerton talked about this when the FBS merges with the FCS they could possibly move the entire (or most teams) conference up. It would be cool if it happens, of course a lot has to happen before we are labeled FBS.

Don't you think due to geography NDSU would work with UND since SDSU has USD. SDSU is NOT connected with NDSU at the hip. If an FBS conference wanted one of the SU's they would dump the other like garbage. Since SDSU and USD are geographically closer to other conferences than the ND teams I can see them getting an invite over us. We are isolated, the closest conference to both our schools is the Mountain West with the closest school (Wyoming) 880 miles from Grand Forks, (further than Bozeman, MT), and 800 miles from Fargo. Unless somehow the Sun Belt creates a north division with the Dakota 4, UNI and SIU then that would be ideal. But I think the Mountain West is not going to happen neither is the MAC. Is the Sun Belt really that attractive? Its the Great West of the FBS. I would love to wait until an FBS split where the Super 5 goes up and the rest of the FBS merges with the upper conferences of the FCS (BSC, CAA, MVFC etc) and (here is the key) have a playoff for a National Title. Keep the Bowls with the Super 5.

Its hard to run the ball when you trail early and often. UND needs a defense to stay in the game, and an offense to run the ball and keep the defense on the sidelines for a good amount of time (not a 3 an out). I am sure Bubba (since its HIS team) will tweek any game plans from the SIU days, as this is the first time he is a DI Head Coach!! Stay tuned!
