If the NCAA wasn't so stupid they would have seen the damage in merchandising with the retirement of the Sioux logo. It was a money maker compared to the plain North Dakota name and interlocking ND logo. But thats the ignorance of the NC$$ (kinda like having the west regional in Fargo instead of a money maker like the Ralph).

Its in the settlement and don't tell me the NCAA won't look at that and say "hey, you are to have a nickname, we gave you a break on the date but if you are permanently going without a name, you are in violation of that part of the settlement". As far as the NCAA and probably legal scholars are concerned UND has been in violation of that settlement since 2011.

I wouldn't put it past the NCAA. They are known to kick the little guy and kiss ass to the big guys (aka Florida St)

The NCAA relaxed on the 2011 deadline because: 1. The state law debacle ate up most of that time and messed up the timeline 2. UND did indeed retire the Sioux name and has made an effort to begin the renaming process If the NCAA sees UND stopping that process and announce they will be known as just UND with no nickname in sight, I believe the NCAA will slap UND with sanctions and make us equals to Alcorn State.

This I hope is not done. The same with the possibility that Kelley could have a name picked out already and this whole nickname board is just a cover for the media and fans. What we need is a name that everyone can get behind. I know the only name that comes to mind is Sioux, but we need to look past that and try to get a name that represents the school, the region (Northeast ND), and the state.

I love North Dakota whatever the nickname is. The fact some people are almost on suicide watch if just having UND with no nickname isn't an option is mind boggling. Just because Central is the Knights, Valley is the Royals and West is the Wolves doesn't make me not cheer for my former schools. UND will always be the Sioux in the heart, but if they are the Fighting Rainbows it won't deter me from not cheering them on, and eventually buying Rainbows gear.

UND has lost 12 OOC road games in a row (not including playoffs), hopefully they can break that against the Jacks, and no buzzer beater either!! Last win, Feb 18, 2012 at Longwood.

UND was known as Nodaks when we had the Flickertails name. Just tells how unpopular Flickertails were.

This is what will stand out for me about this season. Roger Thomas got just 2 wins his first year at UND with winning records 11 out of the next 12 years in his coaching career. I hope Bubba can mimic this and get this team back on track to the playoffs.
