    2013 Playoffs

That's why this level of football is great. We'll find out for sure once the playoffs get a few rounds in. No need to have these conversations, it will be decided on the field.
  2. There were many people on this board who questioned SDSU not continuing to go to Zenner. Let's not re-write history. Also, that 3 and out led to another possession and a touchdown for UND, which is what made the game look much closer than it was IMO.
  3. Make up your mind fellas. Does comparative scoring matter or not. A loss is a loss right? And by the way, had SDSU coaches not had a stroke(figurative) and decided to abandon the run game in the second half. UND would have put up 14-21.
  4. Interesting how the conversation has come full circle. Did you happen to notice who that "other team" was that scored so many point on SDSU was?
  5. UND football fans remind me of your favorite corner Mackey. Always talking trash, but never really backing it up. Beat a MVFC opponent and then talk trash about the conference.
  6. I realize comparative scoring has it's limitations. How else do you propose we have this hypothetical conversation?
  7. Was UND better than Indiana State this year?
  8. Mo. St. is definitely not a great team, but this year they certainly weren't the bottom feeder they have been in the past. Beat two teams ranked in the top 25 and put the highest point total of the season on NDSU's defense. It would have been a loss if UND matched up with Mo. St. this year IMO. I have no idea what they have coming back next year though so we'll see. http://www.missouris...otbl-sched.html

I agree, recruits will always be touted as great by their own fan base. But I don't think any reasonable person would look at NDSU's football roster compared to UND's or SDSU and not see a better caliber of athlete on the NDSU roster. It seems pretty obvious to me, but I am admittedly biased.

True fan or not, a dollar is a dollar and those people are spending their money at the FargoDome on Saturdays.

Do you think NDSU is not out-recruiting UND? Should we make our way over to the 2014 recruiting thread and read all the handwringing and gnashing of teeth going on about the talent on the UND roster?

I agree, but I'm not talking about fans of the schools. I am talking about that portion of the population that is more fickle and chooses the team that is more popular. NDSU is now the "cool" team to follow. I see more NDSU gear running around Fargo and more "casual fans" in the tailgate lots than ever before. These are likely some of the same people that would be in Grand Forks if UND were competing for National Championships.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

I guess I fail to see where you mentioned putting out decent teams. You said SDSU isn't hurt badly, which is grossly untrue. SDSU recruits directly against NDSU and loses nearly every battle when they go head to head. Maybe your own point went over your head.

If you don't think SDSU is hurt by recruiting against NDSU, I'm not sure there is anything left to discuss with you.

You guys keep touting this IPF as the savior of the program. I just don't see it. Absolutely it will be nice to have. But, I am not sure an 18 year old will see it the same way. NDSU seems to have done fine without a dedicated IPF, same with UNI, Montana and Montana St. (Cold weather teams.)

Great post. Something that I have been thinking during this entire conversation, but realized it wouldn't be received very well so I opted to not bring it up.

Please elaborate. Was something I said not true?

Not true. When Bohl came in he was asked to bring a program with all of the support a program could ask for back to where it had once been. He was asked to transition a team to Division I and was given all the resources to do so and he knew it. Can the same be said for UND? Not from what I have read on this board. UND football will always take a backseat to hockey, according to many people on this board. Until football is given it's due at UND, the cream of the crop coaches will never see the position as enticing.

I have to admire your optimism.

Not to nitpick, but it seems appropriate to point out that they came from UND to NDSU. Not the other way around.

This is part of my point. I don't see anything enticing about coming to UND as the head guy for him. It seems like an enormous step backwards, regardless of money. Where do you go from UND? He is already in a great position as a DC at a Mid level FBS school who has position coach experience at a major FBS program. Not to mention a national championship as a DC in FCS. Just seems to me like UND wouldn't be a move in the right direction for his career. I am just surprised to hear his name come up on this board.

Gus Bradley is the connection to Fort Lewis, brought him on at NDSU as a GA. HIs roots lie with NDSU. Call it nonsense if you want.

Hazelton is an NDSU guy, don't doubt that. Not having played for the Bison doesn't make him any less of "one of our guys". Setting that aside for a moment though, what about the UND job would be enticing to a man who is in his position?

Honest question, because his name has come up multiple times as a replacement. What makes anyone on this board think he will take the UND job if offered. He is an NDSU guy, I honestly doubt he would want to coach at UND. Could be wrong though.
