  1. 3. Something must be done about the language that the students used during some chants at the game. How can I bring my kids to the game if all they hear from the student section in profanity. Something must be done. Any Ideas?

Three ideas to start off with. Don't say it's just the student section. While looking around during the chant, I saw many people who were not students doing the chant. By calling out just the students, they will get defensive, because you're singling them out. I appreciate how others refer to it as a fan problem and not a student problem.

Don't overdramatize the problem. You know it's not all your kids heard from the student section. I realize there are bad chants and the fans shouldn't do them, but realize the good that fans do. The students that you speak so badly of, started a large amount of the cheers at the game and if you look at the atmosphere during a normal weekend, vs one without many students there... I'd take the first option. It's just my opinion, and I don't have kids, so feel free to throw my point out the window, but as a SIOUX fan, I'd rather have a couple swearing chants during the game and the atmosphere that was on Friday, than have no swearing and a fairly dead atmosphere. Before you say "we can have both," I know it's possible, but it takes a lot of work on BOTH sides. Not just a bunch of "those students should do this and not do this."

Third, I touched on it a bit just before. Don't tell the fans what they should do, lead the way. Don't just tell people what you think is acceptable or not, start actually taking some action. You have a problem with the swearing? Tell someone. Everyone else complains about the students swearing, so there's no doubt that you'd have support. Just remember that you can whine about it all you want, but unless you or someone else starts doing something to fix it, it will always stay the same.

  2. I also thought the DB was out of bounds on that. Plus, the a UND offensive lineman came up with one of the fumbles they gave to UNO. Did anyone else think that UNO had a few plays where they false started that weren't called? It seemed like one whole side of their line was jumping the snap.

My friend and I were commenting about how the head official missed at least three false starts in just the first half. he then was the official who made the ruling on the UNO pick along the sidelines. I would love to be the one who edits down a post-game tape with all of the mistakes that official made. I understand it's hard, but when your job is to watch to see if someone on the line moves, and they do, yet you don't call it... i question if you're able to do your job.

  3. Just some comments after watching the game:

Lee looked a little lost out there early on. He made a couple noticable mistakes, but I know Chorney covered for him on one. I think those two are a great combo, because they can make up for each others weaknesses. After the 1st, I'd say Lee got his act together and had a very nice play to set up Toews in the 3rd.

I don't like Radke on the point during the PP. Twice he tried to force shots. Both were wristers that didn't seem to have much velocity. I know we freak out about not shooting enough, but it seemed like he was forcing it with shots that wouldn't have made it through.

Other than the end of the 1st and parts of the 2nd, I thought the Sioux were flying. Especially during parts in the third, you could tell their legs were going. Hopefully they can get the sweep tonight.

  4. Maybe I'll watch the game from BWW. I think their food is overrated, but at least I've been there before.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think I'm probably going to go there then. I at least know what to expect there. Hope to see you all tomorrow for the game.

  5. Hey, just wondering if any Fargo Sioux fans want to get together and watch the game somewhere. As mentioned in another thread, Pops has it (located on main right by univ ave), but they have a limited number of tvs. I'm not sure if places like Buffalo Wild Wings will have it, but I can call. Let me know.

    edit: i'd prefer non-smoking.

  6. I'm looking into getting digital cable in Fargo and I want the best option for sports. Unforunately, cableone is horrible, but I can't have a dish. Does anyone have the FCS channels (pacific, central and atlantic) and how much college hockey do they play? I looked at the schedule for this Friday and it shows the Wisco and Gophers games are going to be aired... but I couldn't find a list of games throughout the season.

If people say FCS has been good to them for college hockey, then I'll probably get it... otherwise I'm just going to have to settle with finding a friend with a dish.

  7. Yo Dog that was the man, thanks for the photos. We will have to keep a eye on him.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It was Forney. He sat 10 seats away from me with the Sioux players who did not dress. He had a TRF shirt on and his long blonde hair.

  8. Easy, stupid-cia. Whoops, sorry, I went 'KNOWTHEFACTS" on ya there for a second. My apology. :)

Seriously, I'm just kidding. Everyone here needs to lighten up a bit. No hard feelings towards anyone, including Mory00.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No hard feelings for you either... My point is that you were so quick to blame Bettman and I was pointing out the fact that he's part of the problem, but you act like he could solve everything. There are a$$hole owners out there who do things so they can save a buck. It's not Bettman's fault they are trying to make money. Thats why most owners buy teams. Not because they enjoy the sport, but because they want to make money.

I think had Bettman not gotten those expansion franchises where they are, then hockey would have a much tougher time getting back on its feet. But because you have more than just a tiny interest in the south because they have teams to cheer for, you have a better chance of getting MORE people back.

And your point about people wanting to see a fightfest instead of a 2-1 clutch and grab is irrelevant. I'd rather see a bunch of basketball players try and skate than watch anything with clutch and grab. If you give people the option of a 2-1 game, where it's not clutch and grab (like this year is going to be, much like college hockey turned into) then people who are serious, or at least those who are "dreaming to be gretzky and lemieux" would rather have that.

Either way, you look at Canada and what do you see? Yes, they've lost franchises and I think that's bad for the sport just like you. But they also play hockey in every city. We don't have that in the U.S. Whether attendance sucks or not, it will pick up. And even if it doesn't, does that mean that Anaheim, Florida, and Tampa are bad ideas? Either way, you've got hockey at least implanted in SOME people's minds and thats a start.

I'm not expecting overnight results, but if we want to turn into the Canada's, the Russia's in the future, then we need to start planting the seed throughout our own country.

Finally, the baseball team that didn't make the olympics was filled with mostly single and double-a players. The setup of the tournament was that if you lose one game, you're done. USA lost by one run in the championship game. Joe Mauer played in that game, but was benched in the final inning with one man on, for someone who was not Joe Mauer. Dumb coach.

  9. Oh, I love that argument. He brought the NHL to Dallas and Denver and look at the success of those two franchises and attendance figures. Wow. Easy to blow attendance figures thru the roof when your cities land Stanley Cups in their first year of existence (Colorado 1996) and field consistent contenders and eventual winners (as with Minnesota moving in 1993 and winning the title in 1999). How does Tampa Bay not sell out a major playoff game and how on earth do they draw a paltry 20,000 people to their Stanley Cup parade while 50,00 people welcome the Flames upon their return to Calgary? I hate to break the news to folks who think the future of the NHL is in Raleigh-Durham. It's not. While approximately 88% of TV's in Canada were tuned into the World Cup of Hockey last fall, people in the US barely knew it was going on. In fact, while walking to the Xcel Energy Center wearing my USA jersey last fall, more than one person stopped me and asked me who the Wild were playing that night.

I don't recall I ever said Bettman was the ONLY and SINGLE reason the NHL is what it is (or isn't) right now. But if you're happy paying $39 to watch an exhibition game or $50-$125 to watch a middle-of-the-season 1-0 barnburner between the Wild and Nashville, more power to you. If you think that Bettman did a favor to the NHL by bringing it to the land of NASCAR and pork rhinds, then I guess he's your guy. Surely, he's not the only reason the NHL cancelled an entire season...Bob Goodenow was an idiot, too, and the owners didn't help themselves by failing to police their own payouts to players, but Bettman is the head of the organization and in the last 11 years, it's gone from displacing the NBA as #3 in the big 4 of sports to being wiped off the map.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You're right. Instead of trying to reach out to fans from across the country, lets keep it as small of a sport as possible. Let's not expand into the "Land of Nascar" (Don't get me started on that, but NASCAR is the 2nd most-watched sport in the U.S. and tracks extend from New Hampshire to California.) and instead just keep it a mostly Canadian/Upper U.S. sport. Let's let Canada keep it's fascination with hockey and win a majority of World Championships. Why would we, the greatest country in the world ever want to give kids in the south a chance to learn hockey, to become some of the best players in the world, and to continually challenge Canada and other countries on the national stage. Damn, I can't believe Bettman had the balls to move into another dumb southern region. They're probably too busy eating collard greens, playing with their pigs, and making cotton. :D

  10. I went to a Wild exhibition game two years ago and it was the most boring hockey I have seen in a long time. Absolutely lifeless and dead, no excitement at all. As for ticket prices, $19 will get you in the corners in the upper deck. Try $29 on the sides on top and the ends on the lower level. $39 on the sides on the lower level, according to theralph.com. I actually traded two Sioux tickets to a nonconference game for two tickets to the exhibition game. A mistake I will never make again.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Like you'd know anything about hockey. :D

  11. Had lunch with a very well respected hockey watcher...he said the Sioux are absolutely LOADED! He's watched several of the incoming freshemen skate over the last year or two and assured me this will be a very, very exciting team to watch. Lots of goals.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Kauk?

  12. So if the name was changed your saying people on campus would still tell us to go back to the reservations? You know, I'm willing to take a chance and blame the logo for many of the injustices that happen here on campus. Put it this way, in the long run, it can only get better on campus w/ the logo/name in our rearview mirror.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

So this is why you want the name changed? Because you think it will stop racism? You think it will stop those idiots from saying "go back to the reservation." If the name does get changed, I want to be around 100 years down the line and ask your great grandkids about the defining moment in the Sioux nation. Knowing they'd be coming from you, their answer would probably be "When UND changed it's nickname and worldwide racism stopped forever. We lived happy, played tag in strawberry fields, and nobody ever died ever again."

  13. The tribe never passed a resolution yesterday. It was an meeting by tribe members to discuss the issue. A vote is expected on Friday. The AP got their information wrong, the Forum reported it wrong. UND officials do not have a response, because nothing has been done. Also, next Tuesday there will be a meeting amongst tribal leaders to discuss the nickname. You can trust my sources, they are from the top.

  14. Thanks for proving my point. You dont care what the tribes have to say. That is not the "honor" you brag about.

Again how many times do we have to have this discussion that one or two people dont speak or act for the entire tribe unless they are elected to do so.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There you go again, making stuff up to try and prove your point. Where, at all, even close did fightonsioux say he doesn't "care what the tribes have to say." You stretch what others say and then twist it so you think you have this great point, that is actually you just making things up. You are bringing a lot of honor to the Sioux people. ;) Despite the fact that you are not AI, you're decision to side with them brings negative views towards them because of the way you act.
