  1. A violent, flagantly illegal move.

Now, am I talking about assault or the hit on Bina?

    Poor judgement. Violent behavior.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Again, illegal by law or illegal in a hockey game. Please explain to me how a kid's sexual assault conviction has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with a hit in hockey. You can say poor judgement and violent behavior all you want. But to connect the two is ridiculous.

  2. Poor judgement.

    Violent behavior.

    Twice.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

sexual assault and a hit in a hockey game are not even close to the same thing. don't try and make it look that way. this information has nothing to do with his hit on bina and it specifically has nothing to do with sioux hockey.

  3. Is a two-game suspension something he'd have to report to a probation officer if he still has one?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I can't stand the guy because of his hit on Bina, but what is the point of going back and looking at a sexual assault conviction? This has nothing to do with the hit and is pretty classless to go around posting this. I understand it's public information, but still. Let the guy be. The hit was wrong, he knows it. He is being punished by the school.

  4. I believe if BC beats UNH, Sioux pass UNH and get a 2 seed. If UNH wins, Sioux are tied with Harvard at 8 but lose to Harvard by RPI tiebreaker, then becoming the top #3 seed.

Hard to be for BC, but maybe for one night. ???

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Even if BC wins tonight, the Sioux can sitll be a #3 seed. If Harvard Beats cornell and Michigan beats Ohio State, then we're #9 overall.

As long as Cornell wins, we are a #2 seed. So you don't have to cheer for BC tonight. ???

  5. What needs to happen now so we get a 2nd seed?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

New Hampshire needs to lose to BC and we should have a 2 seed (8th spot). Couple other things could happen which would move us up higher.

Edit: It seems that even if UNH wins, the Sioux would still get the 8th spot. This was with no upsets in the other conference championship games.

The worst I could figure out, while just casually running through it is UND finishing tied for 8th with Michigan.

  6. it's fine to have the #1 seed play the afternoon game. i have no problem with the play-in game winner playing the next afternoon, it's something the #1 seed deserves. However, the problem is the inconsistencies each year depending on where the Gophers are ranked.

Set times for the games and leave it at that. If the Gophers are the 4/5 winner, then make them play in the afternoon just like this year will happen. I'm surprised they even let the 3/4 game be before the championship game if the Gophers lose on Friday.

  7. I agree with everything you said.

What a fantastic game. When Stafford scored the first goal, I thought the roof was going to come off the place. He looked great tonight, especially in the first. His level of play was elevated; as good as he has been at times, I don't recall seeing that kind of play from him wearing the green and white - maybe that is about to change.

As an aside, Montoya was terrible in the first. I can't fault him on the penalty shot, but giving up three goals on four or five shots in the first, when goaltending is supposed to be the one of USA's strengths, was unexpected. He recovered nicely in the second and third though.

Ovechkin gives the appearance of arrogance, but he is quite a player and to me seemed to back up the ego. My group noticed him skating in toward Montoya before the start of the third. I also haven't seen that before. The fact that he was wearing a shaded visor tipped us off during warmups to a possibly inflated ego.

Did anyone happen to notice following warmups when the entire Russian team was off the ice, in their lockerroom, Ovechkin sat on their team bench by himself, with his gloves and helmet off staring at the ice while the zamboni made its rounds. Every once in a while he would look back toward the suites and tug at his jersey and nod his head and smile. After the zamboni made about four laps he put all his gear back on, hopped the boards, skated across the ice and went down his tunnel. To me, that was very bizarre. Hockey is clearly a team sport and he made every indication that he was separating himself from the team (ritual or not).

Anyway, congrats to USA on a great start. Hopefully, they can keep it up.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

you just have to realize how important rituals are. i don't play sports much, but i do things the exact same way, no matter if its just a league game or for state. you wouldn't want to change it in one of the most important games of the tournament just to "appear" as part of a team for the fans. believe me, his teammates understand its a ritual and nothing personal.

  8. I'm sorry you don't understand that what you're doing is inconsiderate. That's all I'll say about it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

pcm, you call it inconsiderate because it's not what you want? there are those on the board, myself included who would much rather have it posted in the sioux score thread than on a separate thread. by posting it on the sioux threads, aren't the UMD fans then being considerate of those who want it? just because it isn't going your way doesn't mean its wrong. there seems to be about a 50/50 split on the board and no matter what the UMD fans do, they will be called inconsiderate. realize that your opinion isn't the only on the board that matters and that others, like myself, actually WANT the scores posted on the sioux thread. should they take what pcm says as the absolute rule and abide by whatever you say? i'm sorry you may not get your way this time, but feel free to belittle others to get your way.

  9. It appears that Shawn Swan didn't play in the men's game tonight.  Anyone know why?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

obviously because i was not there to show my support for him. he will play tomorrow, because i will be at the game. ;)

  10. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a copy of the NCC and NCAA rules for seating at basketball games.

I'm one of the few students who sit directly behind the opposing teams bench and we were told we had to move because of an NCC rule that said the first 40 seats could only be sold to opposing team fans only. I was just hoping to clarify if that's true or if the UND athletic dept and the REA is trying to take away from non-swearing, Sioux cheering, student fans.

  11. in some ways the betty is the same as the ralph. my friends and i sit front row right behind the opposing teams bench and 3/4 of the time we cheer for the sioux, while the rest is spent razzing the coaches. we never swear, are never rude, and most of the time the coaches will talk with us before, during and after the game. However, every game we get at least one member of security sitting next to us to make sure we don't cause any trouble.

The difference at the betty is that the fans around us (mostly older fans) absolutely love us. Basketball at UND hasn't turned into the social event that hockey has and it keeps those fans who just want to be seen out. Take the lower bowl at the Ralph give it to the die-hards. Then put the socialites upstairs and throw a couple cameras up there so they can be seen on the big screen and call all of their friends to plan the frat party that night.

  12. If and when Evan Lindahl gets his stroke going again, the Sioux will be very tough to stop offensively.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

GRAND FORKS, N.D.- Evan Lindahl scored a team-high 16 points, including hitting on 4-of-5 from three-point range, to lift UND to a 85-58 win over Upper Iowa at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Tuesday. The junior found his stroke early as he helped spark the Sioux to a 10-1 lead it would not relinquish.

  13. I most likely will have two tickets in the UND section at the game this weekend and I don't think I'm going to be able to go. The tickets were ordered on Monday and should be arriving today, let me know if anyone wants them. We paid $10 for each of them and that is all I'm asking for them. Email me at cory_morlock@hotmail.com or send me a private message.

  14. So I have a question.....are the tickets for the UND students assigned seating?  Or can we sit wherever we want in the student section?  My student ticket has a seat # on it and there's no way I'm sitting by myself, because I bought my ticket at a different time than my friends.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was wondering the same thing, but if you look at your ticket it says GA on it, for general admission. So it's gonna be first come first serve for the student section.

  15. I was talking to some members of the TV production crew and as of today, they are not planning on airing the game on TV. They said that Roger Thomas wants to try and sell out the game, or at least get as many fans to attend as possible.

  16. Haven't heard anything along those lines but I saw that it was $259 from Fargo and $192 from Minneapolis to fly there on NW.  There are several direct flights from Minneapolis to Hancock each day (looks like same thing as Houghton, right next to each other).

Little over 500 miles to drive there so that isn't too bad either.  Could be worse.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Kim Woods, the lady who put together the fan bus to St. Cloud said they won't be having one for the Tech game.

  17. Any word on if the women's soccer team was given the nod for the national tourney? Top 4 from the region go and the Sioux were ranked 5th going into their win over South Dakota (4th) and loss to Nebraska Omaha in the NCC championship game.

  18. I love how Woog says that Vanelli was just trying to hold McMahon. Try and watch the fight, Vanelli was face-washing him and was never trying to hold back. Wow, I love Gopher broadcasters. Maybe lucia was right and it is just North Dakota that fights, nobody else. :silly:

  19. My back-of-the-envelope (i.e. manual, so error prone) take--

    UND:

    if def. USD, SSI: 9.90, Win%: .80

if def. by USD, SSI: 9.30, Win%: .70

    UNO:

    if def. Mankato, SSI: 9.818, Win%: .818

if def. by Mankato, SSI: 9.27, Win%: .727

    SCSU:

    if def. UMD, SSI: 9.9, Win%: .80

if def. by UMD, SSI: 9.3, Win%: .70

    GVSU:

if def. Mich. Tech, SSI: 9.60, Win%: .800

if def. by Mich. Tech, SSI: 9.00, Win%: .700

From what I can tell, NCC, NSIC, and GLIAC will each get an "earned access" representative.  There should be a rep. from each conference naturally ranked higher than UND, so the earned access won't result in a loss of a slot otherwise available to UND.  I'm assuming Northwood, Winona St, and Michigan Tech. are locks at this point.

Plenty of scenarios there that get UND in if they win Saturday.  If UND loses, the Sioux will need a lot of help.  If UND and all the other teams listed win, it could come down to UND vs. GVSU (SCSU has the H2H over UND, and SCSU/GVSU have no COP or H2H).  UND and GVSU have both defeated their only common opponent and have otherwise similar records.  UND has a slightly higher SSI, but I'm tempted to guess that however the NCAA relatively ranks the two of them this week will carry over to next week if both win or lose.  Though it ain't gonna happen, it's still mathematically possible for UND to be the #1 rep from the NCC :silly:

How former opponents' results could affect SSI (the odds I missed something here are quite high):

    • if Mankato def. UNO, Mankato Win% becomes >.500, giving UND .2 and UNO .18 and SCSU .2 more SSI points

    • if SCSU loses to UMD, win% becomes <.75, dropping UND .2 and UNO .18 SSI points

    • if UND loses to USD, win% becomes <.75, dropping UNO .18 and SCSU .2 SSI points

    • if Delta St loses to Ark-Monticello, Delta St Win% becomes .500, dropping UND .2 more SSI points

    • if Western Washington loses to Humboldt St., win% becomes .500, dropping UNO .18 and SCSU .2 SSI points

    • if Tiffin def. Gannon, win% becomes >.500, giving UNO .18 SSI points

    • if Ashland def. Indianapolis, win% becomes >.500, giving GVSU .18 SSI points

    • if Northern St. loses to SW Minnesota St, win% becomes .500, dropping SCSU .2 SSI points

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

So basically if the following things happen we're in? Mankato beats UNO, SCSU beats UMD, UND beats USD, Delta beats Ark-Monticello, Western Wash loses, Gannon beats Tiffin, Indianapolis beats Ashland and Norther St. loses.

What are UND's chances saying that UND, UNO, SCSU, GVSU all win?
