  1. I can't believe that Pittsburg is considering sending Staal back to Jr's. I think after his decent start he isn't going to want to go back to Junior hockey.

i think the major reason he's gotten so much playing time is because of injuries. i wouldn't be surprised if they sent him back down. when he is a restricted free agent, malkin is the same year, so that could cause some financial problems. in a week, i'd doubt you will see staal playing as many minutes as he did, because a majority of pitt's players will be back from injury. if you're playing for this year, keep him on the team. if you're running the team as a business, send him back down.

  2. Because I don't think that Taffe was a hack? Sprig just defended Prpich. I hope you'll say the same thing about him or you'll also lose some credibilty.

he didnt say his antics were ok... he said at least prpich would back it up. taffe just ran after he did something. a lot more respect for someone who will hack a guy and then take a beating, compared to someone who hacks a guy and then turtles or runs and hides.

  3. I could see the Montana schools, especially U of M, threatening to make a play for the WAC the next time Big Sky expansion comes around unless the other presidents take a hard look at adding a school or two that is an attractive peer institution to them, academically, athletically, and geographically. Who will be available in the next 5 years that fits that criteria?

NO! don't even post hypotheticals, you are just wearing green colored glasses and you should know that because ndsu didn't get in, UND will never get in. you just make yourself look even more dumb when you suggest that UND has some benefits. listen to ndsu fans, they know whats up. obviously great joe chapman's knowledge has funneled down through his underlings to all ndsu fans. :)

  4. Just thought I would let everyone know if they don't all ready but BW's in Fargo here finally got regular cable so they can play the sioux hockey games. Nice place to go to watch if you don't wanna sit at home. They are airing the game tonight at 7. Hope to see you all there..... oh and UFC is on tonight also...

i was planning on going there last night. got delayed and didn't get there til 7:15. the place was packed. standing room only. i suggest everyone get there at least half an hour early... even 6:00 wouldn't be a bad idea just so you have a good seat. (i ended up going to tgifridays which wasn't quite as packed. but it still took half an hour to get a table in the bar).

  5. Yikes, that's just like my grandpa saying he used to play the kerosine guitar before electricity came.

As for the final five, Mr. and Mrs. Siouxman, I hope I can trust you to purchase five tickets this year ???

    fixed your post :D

  6. saw this on espn.com

Top 10 Hockey Hot Spots in North America

UND/The Ralph makes an appearance, with the following write-up:

COLLEGE GAME AT GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA

The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux are the biggest athletic act in the state. They play their Western Collegiate Hockey Association home games in what might be not only the nicest arena in college hockey, but also in the sport -- the 11,406-seat Ralph Engelstad Arena.

It would be wise not to say anything nice about the NCAA, and certainly not about the organization's PC-driven crackdown on nicknames.

  7. The last article published in the paper said this:

“A criminal complaint obtained by the Fox 9 Investigators accuses bar owner Mike Mulrooney of serving alcohol to U of M athletes who were underage. It also says police found evidence he gave Mens Gopher hockey players hundreds of dollars worth of free drinks and they gave him free tickets to games.”

If that is what the police report said, how is this not an NCAA violation? Spin city here we come.

right now it's just a police report. i havent' followed it closely enough to know if charges have been filed against the owner, but up until they are filed and he is found guilty, no one can be held accountable. to the eyes of the ncaa the police report says "we, the police think this is what happened, it is now up to the prosecutors to find out if there is enough proof to try and convict the owner and possibly the hockey players, and then it is up to the judge or possibly a jury to determine if the owner and or hockey players are actually guilty."

a police report doesn't mean guilty... it just means arrested. the ncaa can't enfore a violation occured when the court hasn't proved a violation occured.

  8. This is not something that Star2City dreamed up in the last couple of months and has nothing to do with jealousy. If you look back into old threads (I don't have the time right now to do it), Star2City predicted that UNC and Denver would get invites into the Big Sky due to the Altitude Network. UNC got in and Denver was possibly was invited but rejected their invitation. Dig around. It' there.

As far as FSSN. You have to admit, that it looks appealing when shopping for a conference.

Actually, the one and only reason UNC is in the Big Sky is because they are located in Colorado.

As far as FSSN is concerned, I don't see it as a help or hinderance in getting into a conference. How many people can first find the channel they are on, and secondly how many people actually tune into a sport on that network that is sponsored by the Big Sky? The only sport people actually tune in to is hockey. Perhaps if you can work out a deal to get FSSN in every household in Minneapolis, it actually may carry some weight to a conference.

  9. Let me start off by stating that I am a non-smoker. As to the campus wide smoking ban that President Cupchella would like to see implemented, I actually think that might be a little to much. The campus already has a no smoking policy in effect for all buildings and what? within 20 feet of all doors right? To have the ban also include all campus grounds, to me is a little extreme..............just my opinion.

Also, on a somewhat related note, with UND wanting to increase their enrollment, I think making the entire campus smoke free would hurt that, maybe to the degree of a downward turn such as it did with the higher academic standards.

they don't really enforce the 20 foot thing, especially during the winter.

  10. don't know if this has been posted.. but John Lee (brian's) younger brother will go to denver. john is a senior who is playing for waterloo right now.

wonder if the sioux pursued him at all... always love to have the brother combinations.
