  1. Remember the Disney movie The Mighty Ducks? One kid called another one 'Cake Eater',as an insult, because the other kid came from a rich community.

i don't get how you can compare the name "frogs" to be as bad as the n-word and in another post essentially compare it to being called a "cake eater."

  2. Everyone on campus needs to show Jonathan a ton of appreciation this season. After all, could any of us have walked away from close to $1M dollars at barely 18 years of age.

i did it several times. everyone kept wanting to sign me to play pro lacrosse, but i figured i'd rather just work for the rest of my life.

  3. The "religious right" crowd amounts to only a very small fraction of those of us who consider ourselves conservatives. Conservative and religious right are apples and oranges.

To try to make a connection between the two is insulting and offensive.

how dare you try to point out davek's double standard. obviously he's much more enlightened than the rest of us... you should have known that.

don't worry davek, God loves you.

  4. here's a link to a story by the ap Forum Article

Also, Eddie Dunn threw his name back into the ring for interim chancellor after lee vickers decided he didn't want the job. Dunn will have an interview tomorrow and john q paulsen essentially said it's dunn's job based on the fact the 1) he was one of the two recommended finalists and 2) nobody else wants the job.

  5. potts came out today and blasted chapman:

    from the ap:

North Dakota's chancellor says N-D-S-U President Joe Chapman has tried to undermine the state university

system. Robert Potts says Chapman's relationships with other North Dakota college presidents and state university system staff have deteriorated over the past year. Chapman denies the allegations. He says Potts has mistaken honest dissent for an attempt to be subversive. Potts and Chapman haven't gotten along. Potts asked that somebody else do Chapman's evaluation. But the Board of Higher Education wanted Potts to do it. Potts' evaluation of Chapman is mostly favorable. But it includes criticism of what Potts says are Chapman's attempts to undercut the university system. Potts also declined to recommend that Chapman be given a pay raise. He says that will have to be left up to the board.

  6. the only thing about that, that makes me wonder is if he transfers wouldn't he not be able to play for a year essientially ruining the whole point of transfering to play more because by the time he would be able to play again, he would be getting more time in at UND. plus Hak and the others must have seen something in him that we haven't seen to have him on the team in the first place.

if he goes to a d3 team, he can play right away.

  7. That's gotta be a load of bull as if it were true, why would NHL teams have signed so many underclassmen this year? If they are pretty much the same, why pay a player to develop in the AHL when they can develop in college for free?

i'd imagine many of the players who signed early will play at least some in the nhl. it's the ability to have them at their disposal immediately if the team needs it.

  8. You can't compete only with dii sports- you have to use the 7 DI NC. Yes for sure UND is more successful in Hockey than any of it's dii sports.

These are just the championships - there are too numerous 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place national finishes to list here.

it's no wonder ndsu went division 1. that 2002 indoor womens track national championshpi really showed they were ready for the big time.

  9. I believe plans for a future football facility are in the works. One that would bring money to the University and not require the University to pay to play there. Before anyone says that's ridiculous, consider this:

-With all of the options for placing a parking ramp on campus, why was the lot in front of Swanson, one of the smallest and farthest away solutions, chosen?

I think the swanson parking area was probably the best choice... given what other options the school had. building it behind tabula would put thousands of students on the opposite side of university. that's a lot of kids crossing the street. the parking lot behind chester fritz is further away from most buildings than swanson. the dorms don't need another parking area... it's the off-campus students that need more parking. behind hyslop is further away than swanson and i'd imagine it would be difficult to build a parking ramp right next to/under columbia ave bridge.

you say "with all the options" but really, swanson parking lot was probably the only good option. it's by no means farthest away from anything but gamble hall, merrifield and twamley.

  10. Losing a heartbreaker in overtime after an amazing comeback the night before makes it almost impossible to get up emotionally for an afternoon game the next day against a team that had 24 hours of rest, especially when that game has no bearing on where or who you'll be playing the next weekend. The Gophers were going to Grand Forks regardless of the outcome of that game.

it's true that the gophs would have ended up in grand forks regardless... but who they played changed when they lost to wisco. umn was #1 overall, but the loss to wisco dropped them to #2. because holy cross was ahead of bemidji state... the gophers drew the #15 overall instead of the #16 overall. the rest is history. but who knows, the beavers could have beat the gophers the way they played too.

  11. i disagree. look at what the wild did at the beginning of last year. they were on a tear, scoring goals left and right. lemaire let them play a very offensive style until the team cooled down. last year, it didn't have the skill to keep that up all year long. but when the guys came out and were putting things in the net, lemaire had no problem playing an offensive game.

this year, he will have much more scoring power to work with and the wild will play accordingly. lemaire won his championship in jersey with a bunch of guys nobody thought could do anything and a great goalie. he took a bunch of rejects a couple years ago and took them deep into the playoffs in the teams 3rd year. he, and the wild organization, has said this year things will be different. and he's shown throughout his career that if he gets enough talented scorers he will easily run an offensive minded club.

  12. You have to be kidding? You are just joking right? First of all FM area has 3 colleges and NDSU by far has overwhelming support. The other two are just sideshows that a ffew like to follow but you are truly in the dark if you think NDSU isn't the big dog in Fargo or ND for that matter.

of course ndsu is the most popular school in fargo... i never said it wasn't. but by no means does it have the support of the community like UND does. of course ndsu is the big dog in fargo, but with so many other things pulling from it, it isn't the "greatest thing ever" like sioux athletics are. it's not a slam on ndsu, its the truth. and your idea of what the big dog in the state is laughable.

  13. Based on the growing market.

and the fact that the bison in fargo are not nearly as popular as the sioux in grand forks. there's a lot of people who generally "dont care" about ndsu. grand forks is a town that rallies around UND's sports... fargo is just a town with a college that some people support.

  14. There are limited sports entertainment and scholarship dollars in any market. And based on comments out of Grand Forks it appears those dollars are reaching a plateau.

If UND didn't have hockey, which makes up about half of its athletic department's budget, with the same amount of funds they'd likely be able to afford the move.

you can say that UND hockey is a detriment to the school all you want... but it also could be the savior. i don't think anyone denies that men's hockey is a huge bread winner for UND and women's hockey takes a significant amount of that revenue away. but realize that by going d1, this small north dakota school will get 1/4 of a million dollars every time they make it to the frozen four. that's half a mil over the past 2 years that UND is missing out because of not being d1.

  15. And I'm unreasonable asking questions to UND fans that they can't possibly answer? Does that maybe ring a warning bell for anyone on here? That theres no plan for this move, so these questions can't be answered? You would think that maybe, just maybe, before announcing UND was going to go D-I, they might, I don't, HAVE A PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IT. I'm sure this is just some more propaganda though. Why have a plan, when you can just declare your moving and hope it works, or not in kuppys case, when he leaves before the transition is even done, and UND is left holding the basket. God, I guess I just can't stop myself with the propaganda though.

So none of the fans on here know the specifics of how UND is going to make the d1 transition... that must mean that the school has no plan. Obviously less than a month after announcing they will take a year to look at the move everyone and their mother should know what UND specificially is going to do. I can't believe that nobody on here has hacked into Kupchella's mind and gotten all of the details. Once someone does that, then we'll be able to answer the questions that you have that really should be aimed at the administration, which knows a heck of a lot more about this than fans on a message board. continue to throw out the same questions over and over and then complain that nobody is answering them. you won't get an answer from people that don't know. but just because us fans don't know doesn't mean the administration doesn't know.

  16. perhaps instead of filling every thread with budget questions, he would just hope to have all that discussion happen here. that would certainly keep a lot of the flaming out of those other threads. that way, anyone who wants to talk budgets can come to this thread and talk about it. otherwise, keep it out of the others.

  17. new jersey on the clock... hopefully forney goes #25 and makes him the 4th UND player taken in the 1st round by NJ since 2000.

heard this stat today: NJ has drafted 3 UND players since '00 and three non -UND players in the 1st round. Parise and Hale have already played full-time NHL and Zajac will be in a year or so. The other three draft picks? They've played less than 15 combined NHL games.

edit: nj trades 25th to Blues for 30th and 77th? hopefully forney goes to nj at 30!

  18. GF Herald reporter Brad Schlossman is in Vancouver awaiting the NHL draft. He said he will be updating his blog HERE throughout the day. He will also then post his interview with Toews after he gets picked.

Here's my prediction for what will happen: St Louis trades the #1 pick to Pitt for the #2 pick and some player. Pitt takes EJ, St Louis takes Toews to go with Oshie. Then New Jersey drafts Forney in the 1st round. You heard it here first. ???
