Digital cable is much lower quality than directv or dishnetwork. Digital cable is extremely encoded because of issues with bandwidth. Fiber is helping to fix that, but it's not installed everywhere yet. Satellites offer much higher quality HDTV compared to digital cable.

You really think he is being greedy? KVLY/KXJB have had numerous job cuts in the past year or two because of dropping numbers of viewers and increased expenses. It's something happening at stations throughout the country, not just in Fargo/Grand Forks. Advertising fails to make enough money to cover all of the costs involved in running a television station, especially during the change to digital. Charley Johnson is doing what will help the business he works for survive. Without getting reimbursement (which many, many other stations already get) for the service his stations provide, KXJB/KVLY would become even more of a bare-bones operation. The two stations have combined newscasts as a way to help cut costs, while trying to bring up advertising revenue to help keep the stations alive. They have double the time to advertise thanks to simulcasting on both channels. KXJB doesn't just feed their newscasts to directv, comcast, midcontinent, dishtv, etc. They feed all of CBS' programming as well. The fee is less about getting paid for the newscasts, but more about getting paid for the the 22 1/2 hours of other programming they air each day. You can be pissed all you want at Charley Johnson, but it's not his fault. His hand is being forced by the stations' owners (Hoak Media) and by dwindling viewers and advertising revenue. He's hoping enough people complain to Directv which would create enough pressure to force Directv to make a deal.

directv is offering free nhl center ice for a bit, so i'm able to watch toews, parise, zajac, commodore, porter and oshie all play tonight. plus, i'm sure a few more games I haven't even really looked at. p.s. parise scored for NJ's only goal so far against the islanders.

i ran into this problem too. You have to go to purchase packages and then scroll down and you'll see the audio only option. "buy" that and you'll be good.

The game won't be broadcast on directv. If you google "College Football TV Schedule" the top link is a great compilation of what games you can check out on direcTV. Unfortunately, the Sioux don't have any this year so far.

if i were a college athlete, i would think the opportunity to play for a conference championship would be more enticing than playing for no post-season title at all. that is why this conference MAY be a good idea. Especially during the transition period where normally football would have the only chance for post-season success.

I'm hoping to get at least three (four would be great) tickets for both games of the Sioux at Denver series. I live in Colorado Springs and unfortunately, wasn't able to buy the tix before they sold out. Please, please please help me out!

I recently moved to Colorado Springs and another UND alum and I are looking for a place that shows sioux hockey games. Haven't really called around and figured this might be the quickest way to find out. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and we'll hopefully see y'all at the games. On a side note, we're planning on hosting a satellite party for the Sioux/Gophers series, so all UND alum should be getting a letter from the alumni association. about a month ago, i took the tour at the US Olympic Center in Colorado Springs and a guy right behind me had a sioux shirt on, so we chatted for a bit and turns out know some same people from school. i've probably seen a good 10 sioux bumper stickers on cars out here and am looking forward to finding a "sioux bar" to watch some games this year.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Bison actually lost that game. Take an unbiased look at the tape and you will see a Gopher team that played some of their worst football ever still beat a Bison team that was one of their best teams ever.
