  1. WMU kept Denver off the scoreboard for 56 minutes. Bold prediction here, but I think we'll keep them off the scoreboard for 60. 4-0 Sioux! Frattin gets a goal for the 10th straight game to secure the Hobey. Genoway, Hextall, & Rodwell score too. St. Paul here we come!

  2. Why can't we clearly see the puck on the replay? Because it is under the goalie's skate, right? Although we don't clearly see the puck, we do clearly see the goalie's skate well across the goal line. Use your common sense, you should be able to conclude that the puck under his skate was across the line while his skate was across the line. I know the replay wasn't 100% conclusive but I guess it's a case of the letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law. I had no rooting interest in that game, but I tried to imagine my favorite team being in the position of both teams. If the Sioux are in UNO's position and it is ruled a goal I'm disappointed, but if the Sioux are in Michigan's position and it is ruled not a goal I'm livid.

... therefore it should not be a goal!

  3. Duluth over Union

    Notre over 'Mack

    Thats it for 1st round.

I'm picking UNH to come out of Manchester as a #4 seed, and Union to come out of Bridgeport. No other upsets, which means we get our standard Frozen Four semifinal matchup with BC.

  4. Was in St. Louis tonight on business and took in the Blues-Oilers game. Oshie was the first star and Porter was the second star in a 4-0 win. Also, Vande played for the Oilers.

And yes, it would have worked out very well for me if the Sioux would have been placed in the West Regional this weekend!

  5. Really??!! Then why, if UND makes the title game, will I in all likelihood be in St. Paul watching, and why will I be watching UND on tv against RPI??!!

And, sorry, but my "world" is not centered around bison football--unlike some who's world IS centered upon a certain sport/nickname-related issue. Am I a huge fan of NDSU football? You bet!! Do I want hockey at NDSU? No? Why not? Because hockey is not a tradition at NDSU. At UND it is. I'm perfectly comfortable with that scenario.

Also, notice I use, and have always used NDSU in reference to sports there. In other words (and perhaps food for thought for some), I always say, when asked where I played FB after high school, "I played for North Dakota State University". I don't say, "I played for the Bison" or even "at" NDSU. I played for the University. Just like NDSU is not Bison University, UND is not the University of Sioux, at least the last time I checked on both.

If UND makes the title game, are you still going to claim that the Force are a better team than UND?

  6. Stay out of the box! I posted this earlier a few weeks ago, but the Sioux have averaged over 25 penalty minutes per game in each of our 8 losses this season. In the games that were wins or ties, that average is 12 penalty minutes per game. If we can play disciplined enough to keep that number down around 10-12 or lower the next 4 games, I believe we hang #8!

This could be difficult considering the non-conference refs we'll see the rest of the way. (Why do I have a feeling we'll be seeing Shegos in at least a couple games?)

  7. Well yeah, but do you think if you got offered a one-way deal with the big club you would turn it down as opposed to a two-way deal with someone else? This basically means he can't be demoted to the AHL without waivers.... I think... so he'll be playing with the big boys.

That's my understanding as well. According to Brad, since he's 25, he's exempt from the entry-level restrictions, which may be a big reason he came back for his senior season.

  8. As of today, I heard UMD will not be traveling until tomorrow.. Practice tonight, and a light practice tomorrow morning. Now judging by the weather.. I would have thought they would be leaving tonight or even this afternoon. Anyways....eventhough Union had a dissappointing series against Colgate...i do have reason to believe that they may be an overlooked team. Looking at Air Force (not a push over by any means) and Union (beating Yale in the second half of the season). Do you guys think that Union could have enough steam to take UMD down and possibly Yale? Following mostly the WHCA, I can't go ahead and say that UMD and Yale are the clear winners here. Any insight on these teams? Any comments? lets hear it! Oh yeah..I'm sure you all remember who UMD lost to in the final five....UMD looks shaky coming into this, especially with travel now a factor

I said it earlier this year that I wouldn't be suprised to see Union in the Frozen Four, as this year's verion of RIT (first time in the NCAAs and making the F4). Now, seeing the bracket they are in, I feel they have a very good shot. I'm not sold on Duluth right now, and I believe Union is a better team than Yale.

  9. Agreed.

FWIW, actual fans of Gopher hockey (not just those who root for the team as a matter of generalized loyalty), are mostly opposed to this brainless move by the B10.

I already hate Penn State due to this B10 hockey effort...and they have yet to play a game.

I sat by some Gopher fans this weekend, and they said the same thing. They were actually joking about finding another WCHA team to follow.

  10. People sell F4 tickets above the face value all the time and the NC$$ does nothing about it. ' Lose your priority'>empty threat. Craigslist, eBay, Stubhub, etc. have them listed all the time at outrageous prices. All the NC$$ has to do is match the section/row/seat with a name and find them out but it doesn't happen.

There's nothing stopping people from buying them for face, then turning around and selling them to somebody else for a profit. Not sure how they could take away somebody's priority status in this situation.

  11. Here are Moy's current brackets, as of Monday morning:

    East Regional (Bridgeport)

    16 RIT vs. 1 Yale

    9 Union vs. 8 Merrimack

    West Regional (St. Louis)

    13 Nebraska-Omaha vs. 4 Michigan

12 Western Michigan vs. 6 Denver

    Midwest Regional (Green Bay)

15 Dartmouth vs. 2 North Dakota

    10 Notre Dame vs. 7 Minnesota-Duluth

    Northeast Regional (Manchester)

14 Colorado College vs. 3 Boston College

11 New Hampshire vs. 5 Miami

I agree with these brackets. Straight bracket integrity, with one switch (Denver & Miami) to avoid a first-round intraconference matchup (Miami & W. Michigan). Also, I don't think we see UND get moved to St. Louis if we have a potential St. Louis bracket that looks like this. I don't think attendance would be all that bad.

  12. Weather in the valley sounds like it is going to ugly later today. For those of us wanting to travel up I-29, a "hands on" road report throughout the day would be appreciated. I'm planning to head out around 4:30pm with my kids, but don't want to be stupid if it's a whiteout or glare ice...there is always tomorrow's game. Any info will be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as you. Doesn't look promising.

  13. From Brad's blog:

    WCHAs four-time all-league players

    Bill Abbott, F, Denver, 1952-55

    John Mayasich, F, Minnesota, 1952-55

Brian Swanson, F, Colorado College, 1996-99

    Jordan Leopold, D, Minnesota, 1999-02

    Chay Genoway, D, UND, 2008-11

    That's pretty impressive!

  14. I see that Moy may have seen the light about UNO traveling well in short distances. I like them in St. Louis, BUT I could see them coming out of that bracket. The Sioux could very well play UNO 2 more times this year. Am I correct in this way of thinking?

I don't agree with his switch of UNO and Denver. You're moving Denver (#5) into a potential regional final matchup with BC (#2), and giving Michigan (#4) a lower seed in UNO (#7). It screws up the bracket integrity too much.

Regarding UND vs. UNO, I've said it before, but I'd love to see Hakstol vs. Blais facing off on April 9th.

  15. Since everyone puts UND in either Green Bay or St. Louis, is it already known what the respective formats are in each as far as days are concerned? (Thursday and Saturday? Friday and Sunday?)

St. Louis is Friday-Saturday and Green Bay is Saturday-Sunday.
