Last year they played the 3 v 6 quarterfinal in the early slot. It makes sense to give the 3 seed the early slot so as to give them the longest possible rest between games. If MN stays in first, it would probably stay that way, but should they drop to 2 and the MN rule is in effect, who knows?
Edit: After thinking about it for a second, the MN rule shouldn't matter because the early QF slot gives the 3 seed maximum rest regardless of the situation.
Minnesota will play the night game on Friday. I don't think anybody would argue that. If they are the #1 seed and the 3/6 game is played on Thursday afternoon, that would force the winner of the 4/5 game to turn around and play Friday afternoon after a Thursday night game. In this situation, wouldn't they flip those Thursday games?
EDIT: Scratch that thought. The 4/5 winner would play the #1 seed, so they'd play Minnesota at night in this scenario.

I think this week's Bracketology will have UND going to Worcester to play BC in the first round. True bracket integrity would have Merrimack vs. BC, which can't happen in the first round. I don't see them swapping Air Force & Merrimack since that's not fair to the #1 seed overall (Duluth). Here's my attempt for this week:
St. Paul
1 Minnesota-Duluth vs. 16 Air Force
7 Minnesota vs. 9 Union
Green Bay
3 Michigan vs. 15 Merrimack
6 Mass-Lowell vs. 11 Michigan St.
Bridgeport
4 Ferris St. vs. 13 Denver
5 Boston U vs. 12 Northern Michigan
Worcester
2 Boston College vs. 14 North Dakota
8 Miami vs. 10 Maine
The Bridgeport attendance would be brutal. You could swap Union & Northern Michigan.
Will be interesting to see what Moy comes out with later this week.

What happened to aron schweitzer after winning the National Championship his Freshman year in '97?
What was the reason on his departure? I can't remember. Anyone?

Are you sure about this? I think its a little more than this. Sweeping Mankato can't do much for us I wouldn't think. It should just come down to the teams ahead of us in the PW losing their games...
Read Jim's blog:
http://blog.siouxsports.com/2012/02/23/sioux-pioneers-match-up-has-playoff-implications-for-both/
His analysis had us with the best odds of being at 14 with a split this weekend, which is right where we are. The analysis also shows that 2 more wins has us likely in the 12-13 range.

As a junior?
The Sioux have had a few Juniors wear the C.

I'm thinking we see Dell in the net tonight, and a much more collected Mario Lamoureax. Oxbow said it best, the team needs more out of their captain, and he can't take misconduct penalties with such a short bench. With Dickin likely out that means 17 healthy skaters.
I'm starting to think that the team should dress Tate Maris out as a forward to serve any type of major penalty or misconduct penalty. Why not? If both the top guys are healthy then really he isn't going to do anything for the team in a game situation (plays a huge role in practice and a great team guy, not trying to discredit the guy).
I'm pretty sure he can skate from the penalty box to the bench.....
You'd think it would make sense to at least suit him up as an emergency backup at least. Assuming Dickin is out tonight, another injury and a game misconduct and they could be in a situation where they'd need him.
What happens if this team suffers more injuries? Do you just play short-handed? Do you fill a roster spot with a walk-on from campus somewhere? I'm assuming bringing in a recruit early at this point in the season is not an option.

I thought so also, on the goal. Probably never get a power play also though!
Actually, the rules were changed (maybe last year?), where if a goal is scored on a delayed penalty, you also get a power play.

On Kristo's penalty shot call, I'm not so sure the puck didn't cross the line before the DU player knocked the net off. I watched the replay on DVR, and at the very least, the puck was at the goal line when the net was pushed off. It looked like Hakstol was calling for the goal too. Not sure why they didn't review it. If they had determined it was a goal, we would have gotten a power play on top of it.

My travel plans got canceled last minute, so I have 2 tickets that will go unused for the Saturday game at Denver. These are great seats, in Section 9 Row 8. Tickets are in hand, so they could be picked up in the FM area or mailed if I can get them in the mail today. PM me or email me at fargosioux@cableone.net if interested.

So how does a tie affect the Pairwise for the Sioux compared to a loss? Does it help? I am just wondering because BE saved that point for us in the WCHA standings but does it also help in the Pairwise?
A loss (instead of a tie) on Saturday night would have kept us at #14. A win would have moved us up to #13. This is according to the "Build Your Own Rankings" site that's referenced earlier in this thread.
Edit: Jim trumped my answer above. But at least I was close!

Hopefully they find somebody who has more success in the battle against the CHL.

I'm not sure I understand why Dell continues to get the bulk of the starts at this point in the season. If you look at the statistics, if Eidsness had enough minutes to qualify, he'd be among the top 10-15 statistically in the nation. I think Eidsness has at least earned the right to split starts, and I'm not sure Dell has done enough to warrant being the every-game guy.

Still looking for tickets for this series, and might have to go with stubhub. Does anybody know which goal the Sioux will shoot at twice?
-
It'll be interesting to see how the DU/UND game in two weeks compares to the Michigan/Notre Dame game. It might put a little perspective to the NCHC ratings draw potential...or perspective to UND's ratings draw.
I contacted the DU ticket office about tickets for this series, and was told this is the first sell-out of the season for Denver.

Send an email to tickets@theralph.com. It sounds like they have some of their allotment still available.

It's interesting to see what the impact of single game is on the pairwise standings.
After last nights games the UND Fighting Sioux sit in 14th place and MN is in 7th.
However, if UND had split the 4 game series with MN intead of losing 3-1, UND would be in 9th and MN would be in 14th.
Or if UND had beaten Harvard in the 1st game of their series instead of a tie UND would be in 12th.
UND really needs a sweep next week in Duluth to give themselves a realistic chance at the NC$$ tourny.
Winning the WCHA autobid this year will be very difficult as they would almost surely need to win 5 game over a nine game span. With as beat up as this team has been this year that may prove to be too much to handle.
If anyone wants to play with past results: http://slack.net/~wh...kings.diy.shtml
If you add a victory over BC in the Ice Breaker to a season split with Minnesota, UND would be sitting at #2 in the PWR. Crazy how much difference a couple games can make.

Jess Myers from INCH has a write-up on the US College Hockey Classic:

Somebody needs to inform him that Brad Berry hasn't coached at UND for a few years.

I will be there with my wife and kids. Should be a good time.
I read somewhere that the Saturday morning practices will be open to the public. Does anybody have details as to what time these are being held?

MSU-Moorhead pulling plug on D1 hockey
in Men's Hockey

Apparently the MSUM president sent out an email to students prior to a press conference later today, indicating that they would not be moving forward with D1 hockey at MSU-Moorhead.
