  1. Not sure if you are predicting these regionals but if we bracketed today with the current Pairwise you would have:

East (Bridgeport) Yale is the host:

    #1 Yale vs #16 RIT/Atlantic Champ

#8 Nebraska Omaha vs #9 Notre Dame

Midwest: (Green Bay) (Michigan Tech is the host)

#2 North Dakota vs #15 Dartmouth Unless they only use the RPI as a tie breaker and then BU would oust Dartmouth here

    #7 Merrimack vs #10 Miami

Northeast (Manchester) UNH is the host:

#3 Boston College vs #14 Colorado College

#6 Union vs #11 New Hampshire (Duluth is tied with UNH with Duluth getting the tie breaker but they can put UNH in here)

West (St Louis) Host is actually the CCHA no real team.

    #4 Michigan vs # 13 Rensselaer

    # 5 Denver vs #12 Duluth (we can't have this so now what?) Why not just swap Rensselaer and Duluth so no first round conference match up). so we'd end up with

    #4 Michigan vs #12 Duluth

    #5 Denver vs #13 Rensselaer

So would these brackets be so bad? Maybe for attendance you swap the entire Midwest and West Brackets to put Michigan and Duluth close to Green Bay but that's about it. Of course a lot of these will be decided based upon the tie breaker they use.

Duluth is a #3 seed and RPI is a #4 seed, so you can't swap them. Swapping is only done within each band of seeds.

  2. College Hockey News

    Teams: 12 (of 12)

Setup: The teams are seeded 1-6 within each scheduling cluster, based upon East-West geography. Within those clusters, the first round is a single game, 3 vs. 6, and 4 vs. 5. The winners advance to the best-of-three Quarterfinals the following weekend, at the sites of the top two teams in each scheduling cluster. Those four winners will advance to the Blue Cross Arena for a Final Four format, single elimination Semis and Finals.

Location of finals: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, N.Y.

  3. Here's my crack at this week's bracketology:

    East (Bridgeport):

Yale vs. RIT (or Atlantic Hockey Winner)

    Merrimack vs. Notre Dame

    West (St. Louis):

    North Dakota vs. Boston University

    Nebraska-Omaha vs. Miami

    Midwest (Green Bay):

    Michigan vs. Colorado College

    Union vs. Duluth

    Northeast (Manchester):

    Boston College vs. RPI

    Denver vs. New Hampshire

  4. I am not, I don't think we are going to see him again unless he plays against MTU... Dell is in the zone right now.

If we win on Friday, I'd actually be very surprised if we don't see Eidsness in net on Saturday. Brad even mentioned in his chat last week that he thinks Eidsness might get a start at Tech.

  5. I believe we would gain another comparison this weekend by flipping Merrimack if they lose once this weekend to Maine (assuming we swept our series). I'm not seeing much of a possibility of Yale losing any comparisons, so I assume the best we can do is to remain at #2 in the PWR after this weekend. Jim or somebody else with more PWR knowledge than me can maybe confirm this.

  6. Per the College Hockey 2010-2011 thread, it looks like the DU/UNO game is on FS Rocky Mountain. Other games listed there as well.

I posted this in the College Hockey thread too:

Directv users with the sports pack have several options for college hockey tonight:

    613 - Niagara @ RIT (6:30 pm central)

    628 - Vermont @ Boston University (6:00)

    664 - Bowling Green @ Michigan State (6:00)

    668 - Michigan Tech @ Minnesota (7:00)

    682 - Denver @ Nebraska-Omaha (7:30)

  7. Do they have the brackets showing which Region plays who up anywhere forthe Frozen Four?

That won't be known until the brackets are completed by the committee. They structure it so if every #1 seed made it to the Frozen Four, the #1 seed would play #4, and #2 would play #3.

  8. Based on the current PWR, the brackets would be very clear cut in my opinion. Straight bracket integrity with no need to move anybody to avoid intra-conference matchups:

    East (Bridgeport):

Yale vs. RIT (or Atlantic Hockey Winner)

    Union vs. UNO

    Midwest (Green Bay):

    North Dakota vs. Western Michigan

    Duluth vs. Notre Dame

    Northeast (Manchester):

    Boston College vs. Wisconsin

    Michigan vs. New Hampshire

    West (St. Louis):

    Merrimack vs. RPI

    Denver vs. Miami

Attendance would be OK everywhere except St. Louis. I do agree with the opinion that the committee will try to place North Dakota in St. Louis if at all possible, but in this scenario, I'm not sure how they could make it work.

What about this crazy thought -- Hakstol vs. Blais for the national title?

USCHO has this week's Bracketology up, and Moy makes one minor adjustment to these brackets by switching Wisconsin and RPI for attendance purposes:

    USCHO Bracketology - February 23rd

Also, Wisconsin blogger Chuck Schwartz put his brackets out earlier this week:

    Schwartz Bracketology

He has a bit of a Badger spin in his brackets by rearranging everything to get Wisconsin in Green Bay. I find it hard to believe everything would get shaken up just to get Wisconsin close to home if they are a #4 seed.

At the end of the day, I have a feeling Wisconsin will be on the outside looking in, and the committee won't have to deal with a Wisconsin decision.

  10. Moys' Bracketology is up on USCHO.com. Very odd brackets this week. Has UND in Green Bay playing Renssilaer with Michigan vs. UNO. WI and UMD are in Manchester with BC and Denver is in St. Louis. From an attendence perspective, this is about as poor of brackets imaginable. WI not in Green Bay? Who is going to go watch in St. Louis?

I heard from a credible source close to the UND hockey program last week that he would totally shocked if UND was sent to St. Louis. UND would be the biggest draw here period and attendence is going to be poor even with UND there. Have WI not play in Green Bay makes no sense. Ship Denver anywhere...their 100 fans would have to fly regardless.

First time in a while I've seen Moy's brackets and just scratched my head.

Madison isn't a horrible distance from St. Louis. According to Google maps, it's 363 miles. What is the current NCAA mileage threshold. It used to be 400 miles, didn't it?

I agree, from an attendance standpoint, it makes the most sense to send Wisconsin to Green Bay, but if the seedings make it difficult, I think St. Louis would be an option for Wisconsin to keep them fairly close.

  11. Why does Blais keep recruiting all these quality AND lunch pail-type players to UNO when he's just going to be coaching Minnesota next year? You'd think he'd keep a couple in his pocket for later. ohmy.gif

Good point, but hasn't Blais had at least 2 or 3 players decommit from other programs to come and play at UNO? I think he'll be in Omaha for the long haul, but it's not out of the question that he could head to Minnesota and take some of these players with him if he wanted.

  12. Straight up bracket integrity this morning-

    Yale vs RIT

    UNO vs UNH

    BC vs WI

    Union vs Michigan

    DU vs Dartmouth

    Merrimack vs Notre Dame

    UND vs Rensellaer

    UMD vs Miami

No intraconference first rounders, so that is a good start.

First thing they'll do is split up Yale and UNH, as they are both hosts. They will swap UNH and Michigan to solve that problem. They will then send #1 seeds closest to home in order of actual seeding

    Bridgeport

    Yale vs RIT

    UNO vs Michigan

    Manchester

    BC vs WI

    Union vs UNH

    Green Bay

    UND vs Rensellaer

    UMD vs Miami

    St Louis

    DU vs Dartmouth

    Merrimack vs Notre Dame

We've got a regional in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin in Manchester. This is an attendance problem and if the season ended today would seriously impact the integrity of the seeding. I would swap BC and WI with DU and Dartmouth, and put Wisconsin in Wisconsin.

    Bridgeport

    Yale vs RIT

    UNO vs Michigan

    Manchester

    DU vs Dartmouth

    Union vs UNH

    Green Bay

    BC vs Wisconsin

    Merrimack vs Notre Dame

    St Louis

    UND vs Rensellaer

    UMD vs Miami

Denver was flying no matter what, so going to Manchester isn't a big deal, bracket integrity is pretty much preserved, attendance should be pretty darn good. Only team that is mad is BC having to travel a long way and play Wisconsin in Wisconsin...sounds like the old Michigan Yost rules...BC has been on a heck of a run. If they win again, let's have them earn it by going on the road and beating Bucky in cheeseland.

Can't see the committee sending BC out West if they finish #2 overall.

  13. I think right now if the NCAA started today the EZAC would have like four teams in the tourney - Yale, Union, RPI, Dartmouth and they very well could be all out of the tourney after the first round. Wisconsin has only one win against ranked teams they are 1-9-2, that's why they dropped so far after loss on Saturday. Minnesota is at 19th all of a sudden.

Now that they helped us out last night, let's hope they start dropping games again. Last thing I want to see is Minnesota sneak into the tournament.

  14. Great article.

I've been to five of those rinks, and suprisingly Mariucci isn't one of them. Still need to make that trip sometime.

I was in Northeastern's rink during the famous "fog game" weekend in Boston. It feels like you're walking into a small-town gym, but it's not a bad place for hockey once you get inside. Pretty cool history.

I agree about Alftond arena having the best atmosphere. Very impressed with their student section. I was there the weekend where Stafford scored on a penalty shot in OT on Friday night. Great weekend!

  15. Drew Stafford follows up a 3 point night vs. Toronto with a Hat Trick tonight (4 points total) vs. Tampa Bay tonight.

Looks like he's a restricted free agent next year. If he finishes strong, you've got to figure he might get a nice bump in pay.

  16. I believe when I signed up for the lottery I did the lower bowl package or I thought all of them were lower bowl? That was just my understanding and I may be wrong....any one know the answer for sure?

There is no "lower bowl package". All tickets are the same price, and seat assignments are based on a priority system. Every year you are selected in the lottery and buy tickets, you receive a higher priority level. I've gotten tickets in 5 previous years, and I've never made it to the lower bowl yet. I'm hoping one of these years I will, but the majority of high-priority people don't give up their tickets, so it could be a few years.
