  1. You give Vonesh too much credit and Moorman not enough. Moormann would score much, but Vonesh would score as much as you think. Woodside would score 20+ on Rico and we all know Rico couldn't score consistanly. Gulseth/Winkleman is a push. Nelson hands down. Gardner would score down low, Tveidt would step outside and shoot 3s all day. Again IMO, best of 7 SU wins 4-2.
  2. I would tend to agree and that was the last UND team I saw play consistantly. But compare those 5 with the current SU starting 5? SU can drill the 3 from 4 spots minus Moormann. I think that would be a biggest difference between the 2 teams.
  3. Agree 100%. I tried to make this point on another thread until the powers-that-be closed it down. As per my previous posts in this thread, I think this SU BB team is terrific, but the hype of making the "Dance" totally outweighs the significance of making the "Dance". SU won a conference tourney...plain and simple. It will be nothing more than that if they don't beat KU, which if very unlikely. Winning a D1 hockey title trumps making the "Dance"...period. SU fans (and I know some) saying that winning a D1AA FB championship is less significant than making the "Dance" in BB are just as illogical. Friday will be great for SU and the state of ND, but it will be a blip on the NCAA BB scene when 2:30 pm on Friday rolls around if SU doesn't win.
  4. I do personally think this SU team is the BEST college BB team I've seen come out of ND. To all you Vonesh fans, he was good, but come on, playing a D1 schedule is harder/ more difficult than going up against the Morningside's, Mankato's and Auggies's of D2. I personally think Dave was a very good D2 player, but even somewhat overrated in his era. Dave's athleticism was marginal at best and definitely not good enough to compete on a D1 level night in and night out. Moormann is very solid defensively and at 6'10" fairly athletic. Don't forget he was offered to walk-on at UCLA. Woodside is flat out better than any guards UND had at that time. Winkleman is a flat out stud. The only true advantage for UND would be Gulseth...he was the real deal. He was underrated IMO during his time at UND. I'm not knocking those UND teams, but they had niche players, minus Gulseth, that made the sum of a team. This SU team has good to exceptional overall players and Tveidt is a white man's version of Gulseth at his age, but a better shooter. PS: Not on crack, but just because you seem to think you have a higher BB IQ than everyone else doesn't mean you are absolute in your opinion!
  5. Nice! We'll be in 124. Just hope my retinas don't get fried from the red light constantly going off!
  6. Phil's parents use to babysit my mom and my aunt and my uncle, so don't tell me he'd score 50 'cause I know he'd get at least 60!! Was just trying to make a point awhile back that this SU BB team is very good and one of the best college team's to come out of ND.
  7. This time of year...playoff time...you need to be playing well on special teams. Right now our PP is so-so at best and our PK has been awful. IF we can get those 2 things ironed out, I like our chances against anyone in a one game situation. BE has been great, our defense is steady for the most part and offensively we have 4 very solid lines. Nobody can predict a bounce or two, but if you can kill penalties and score on the PP, your chance of winning go way up.
  8. . Watched those teams while at UND and no they couldn't night in and night out. In a best of seven series, this SU team would win 4-1 or 4-2 over the Vonesh UND teams. Too young to have seen Phil's teams.
  9. We'll agree to disagree on that one.
  10. Having seen the UND teams of the late 80's/early 90's while at school that went to the D2 Elite 8 tourneys, if this SU team was D2 now, they'd have a great shot at a D2 title this year. This SU team is the best college BB team to come out of the state of ND. Look at Winona St. the past couple years...D2 champs! SU is in a league talent-wise above any of those Winona teams.
  11. I kicked around the idea of going, but at $70 (face) a pop I decided to pass. SU will have a big following so even tickets off the street will be tough to get. Have family that lives near KC and went to a first round day there few years back...what a blast. If you ever have a chance to go to a 1st or 2nd round regional, it is an electric day of basketball. But hockey is the big deal this weekend...GO SIOUX!
  12. Ed/Op in today's Fargo Forum sports section said that SU going to the "Dance" is bigger than anything that has happened sports-wise in the history of NDSU or UND sports...i.e. more impressive than any national championships??? I find that fairly bold to print. So when does winning a conference tourney and being (presumed) one and done in a NCAA tourney outweigh a national title(s)? Didn't think as a state and state universities, we were into "participation" like some other school?
  13. Need some clarification. Fargo Forum has UND playing in EITHER game on Friday depending on the winner of Thurs. game. Is UND locked into the 7:07 pm game on Friday or not??
  14. Bison take on KU at 11 am Friday at the Dome.
  15. Have 2 tickets in Sec. 121 Row 24 available for the Friday afternoon game (2:07 pm) WI/DU. Will also have 2 tickets available Sat. for the game UND DOES NOT play in. PM if interested. Will be at Thurs. play in game to get you the tickets.
  16. Best overall captain UND has had in 20+ years IMO.
  17. Tech scores 3 goals this weekend on the PP! If UND can't work out it's PK problems, teams with some actual offensive talent are going really start giving UND problems because those teams will be able to generate offense 5 on 5 unlike Tech. To lazy to look but I would guess from the CC series forward, UND is killing about 75% of it's penalties...not good enough!
  18. My daughter and I will be there...Sec. 121 Row 24! Going to have some fun before we have to start sand bagging for the flood of '09. They said the flood of '97 was a 500 year flood and the Forum said today that there was a 1 in 3 chance it floods to the '97 level or higher. I'm not real good at "maff", but that is way less than 500 years!
  19. With three 8 year old girls eating before the game, we'll step it up a notch and hit the Moon! Da Pepper is best at 1 am post-Sioux victory!
  20. Agree with the fact SCSU has no shot and UMD's shot isn't much better. If there is an upset, 'Kato over WI.
  21. McBain gets INCH's player of the year? He has the worst +/- of any D-man in the league not coming to the Ralph this weekend wearing a Tech sweater. Pathetic choice...but in-line with INCH's mentality!
  22. She"ll have plenty to discuss now that Dorgan was able to get some major earmarks for the NAs with this "stimulus" package.
  23. Longie is nothing more than a puppet for Jeanotte and his UND antagonists. Heck, they may even be the same person?!
  24. There is a reason UND won the Cup and a reason MTU won 2 league games all year. On paper this shouldn't be close...but it probably will be. 3-1 Watkins with ENG to seal it.
  25. If true, less salary for GFH, automatic increase in overall writing/reporting talent for GFH and probable increase in subscriptions for GFH. She has been dead weight on that staff for years.
