  1. Correct. The odds are set by some very smart people to start the week, but can and will change as the week goes on. Once your wager is placed, it's locked into the odds that were current when you placed the bet. Tip #1: It's smart to bet against the Dallas Cowboys. Why? The bookie is trying to make money. If it's 50/50 odds that either team will win, both teams are usually set at -110. Like mentioned above, you need to place a $110 bet to win $100 (plus your $110 back for a total of $210). The bookies goal is to try and create equal bets placed for both teams, that way an equal number of people are losing opposed to winning. Now, because the bookie set the odds to -110 each, they are making money on the extra -10 it factored in. Back to the Cowboys. Because the bookies want equal bets on both sides, they'll change the lines as the week goes on to make sure they accomplish this. Well, because there are so many not-so-bright Cowboys fans (not all) who will blindly throw bets down on their favor team, it can change the odds in favor of someone who is un-biased trying to make some money. So, the odds are skewed to create equal bets. This is one reason why the odds of a team winning aren't always accurate. I used the Cowboys as an example, but there are many other teams/athletes who fit this description as well. My favorite is betting against Tiger Woods in the two-ball bets even though I'm a big Tiger fan. Tip #2: Bet early in the week and late in the week. When new games are available to bet on, you can find games where you feel the bookie made a mistake. This isn't common because big money is on the line and those who set the odds are very good at what they do, but they will err at times. Chances are, if you are correct on your assessment of a mistake, many others also will take notice, and now the bets will heavily favor one side. Because the bookie wants equal bets on both sides, they will quickly start to make up for this. The middle of the week will be pretty neutral, but by the end of the week, bettors can skew the lines so much so that it makes it favorable to bet an underdog (leads back to Tip #1). Those are just some basics.
  2. I remember many years back taking Al's Bus as a "one-off younster"....had a blast! If you like beer, you'll find many friends on the bus.
  3. I heard there will be an opportunity to stretch legs and grab some refreshments at the NCAA Offices in Indianapolis.
  4. GREEN....'nuff with the blacks.
  5. Well, maybe the Ralph was quiet for a reason this year. They were getting the team used to playing in front of no crowd noise come tourney time. I hope it works! GO SIOUX
  6. We've had a taste. Thanks, Nathan Poole!

Anyone get a chance to jot down pricing on yesterday's (Wednesday) jersey auctions? I had an opportunity to watch them on Tuesday, so I have those. If you did, give me a shout. Thanks.

  11. JP Parise is no longer there.
  12. They re-signed him on March 8. So, they must have liked what they had seen from his first two debuts. But, he did get released after those first two games. Maybe it was the way his first contract was written that resulted in the cut>re-sign.

  14. The name has nothing to do with the Ralph being too quiet. As far as 99% of the fans (or even higher than that) are concerned, they're still the Sioux until a new name is in town. As far as the NHL is concerned, they're about on par with two years ago, and the season isn't over yet (less than 1% difference in attendance). They've also competed with a much harsher North American winter this year and the Olympics. I am not going to compare this NHL season to last year's shortened season since a shortened season creates an obvious boost in attendance.
  15. The new Ralph has had its moments, but in general is usually more quiet than anything. This year has been worse than others. Everyone from Hennessey to Average Joe would complain that the building is quiet because the team is giving them nothing to cheer for. No! You cheer to get the team going, not the other way around. Our road fans make much more noise than the home fans. Student section has been worst in UND Hockey history as well.
  16. The 4th leading goal scorer among UND alumni in the NHL this year, Brock Nelson, potted #11 on the season. Zajac and Stafford at ten which gives UND 6 with double-digits in the season goal column.

Don't trust eBay for a jersey like that. They are mostly all fake, and some of the ones with pics of legit ones will send you fakes. The upside is, ebay is pretty lenient about getting you your money back if it is counterfeit. That Blackhawks shop sells fakes. Steer clear of that. Just pony up and pay retail for it. The best part about buying from the Sioux Shop is the profits go to the school...hence why I never buy something from overpriced Scheel's if the Sioux Shop also has it.

  21. Strategy, yes, I can agree with you. Recruiting, yes to an extent, but we aren't the only ones out there trying to bring in the best kids...and we've brought in a ton of good ones and lost a few to Major Juniors/NHL who could have put this team over the top. Motivation, no. If being able to play in front of 11,000 fans every home game while wearing a North Dakota sweater in a town that has seen the likes of some of the best college hockey players to play the game, and you need your coach to motivate you, then you have issues. In 2005, Denver was the better team. Could we have won? Yeah, but should we have? Not necessarily. In 2006, with a young team, our goalie/defense didn't play very good. In 2007, the goalie didn't show up again despite the rest of the team playing good enough to win the game. in 2008, inexplicable. In 2011, we outplayed Michigan in all facets but goaltender, just didn't get the bounce you needed to have that shot at a title.
  22. Cool, an internet tough guy! (Hey look! Now you can add "tough guy" to the list of names you've been called on "thus" "bored")
  23. I wish the players would get us over the hump. Last I checked, Hak hasn't suited up since 1992.
  24. In Wisconsin there are a lot of closet hockey fans, depending on what part of the state you are in. It's not the most talked about sport, but there are plenty of knowledgeable fans. It isn't like Minnesota or Michigan where HS titles are a coveted thing, but the Badgers have great interest in some, and are totally disregarded by others. Don't be fooled by the "Wisconsin doesn't care about hockey", they just don't care about it like most around here are used to where it's the number 1 sport. Oh, and Aaron Rodgers had a cheese, sausage, and onion omelette, blueberry muffin, and two large glasses of orange juice for breakfast.
