Actually, I think that's a standard warning. The rule says that fans can't throw anything on the ice. It makes no exception for hat tricks, which is pretty silly.

Berry will be scouting three USHL games this weekend. Berry said the team had a good practice today before it left. They were passing the puck very well. The trip to Houghon is not bad when you travel out over two days, but the Saturday night trip home is a killer. Tim talked about coming back once with the officials on the bus. A caller asked how the Canadians at the WJC tournament had a goalie who plays for Pittsburgh in the NHL. Tim pointed out that some of the US players were also in the pros. Berry said they have eligibility standards that the players have to meet. A caller asked for Berry's honest assesment of WCHA officiating. The caller said it seemed like the skill players take a lot of stick work and always have to play through obstruction. Berry said there were a number of factors he couldn't comment on. On Saturday, the fourth line on paper was McMahon, Fylling and Canady. The third line was Palmiscno, Hale and Marvin. The fourth line scored both UND goals. Blais made some comments after Saturday's game about possible line combinations for the MTU series. But I wasn't exactly sure what he meant. I don't know if Parise, Murray and Stafford will be back together on the Gold Standard Line or if he'll bring back the Money Line with Parise, Bochenski and Murray. I would certainly like to see Lundbohm and Massen return to their form of last season when they were playing so well together. The Sioux would be -- dare I say it? -- goose bumpy good.

I saw hockey media guides at the UND Book Store last season. I haven't checked to see if they have them this season.

Why limit this wonderful concept to college hockey? In every sport -- amateur and professional -- there are "haves" and "have nots." Some teams have better talent. Some teams have more resources. Some teams are better coached and managed. Some teams have it all. They're often called "winners." If the goal is to prevent good teams from winning, then I suppose it makes perfect sense to have two different rulebooks.

There was a thread on USCHO a year or two ago about which college hockey teams have the coolest jerseys/sweaters. As I recall, the Fighting Sioux jersey was a heavy favorite among non-Sioux fans. One guy went so far as to call it a "chick magnet." He said every time he wore his Sioux jersey in public, women would ask him where he got it. Of course, for all I know, this person might have looked like Jon Durno of Canisius and been a natural chick magnet in his own right.
