All in all, I thought the atmophere in the Ralph was great this weekend. The crowd was very loud for nearly the entire game on Friday. After the Gophers got up by two on Saturday, the crowd was pretty much out of it until Chorney scored in the third period. But between that, Prpich's goal and the amazing saves by Lamoureux, the fans were extremely loud, even though many people had left after the second period. But, hey, let's blame the building because that's what we always do when the Sioux lose at home.

Ditto.

I may watch a bit of the game just to see how it turns out. Personally, I'd like to see GVSU beat NW Missouri convincingly. I'd like to be able to say that UND was the only team that gave the national champs a close game.

The rule is still in effect, but the referee has been given greater latitude in determining whether or not the player in the crease interfered with the goalie's ability to make the save. It's more like the NHL rule now. But you have to wonder: Why even have a crease rule if anyone can be in the crease at any time? Why not remove the crease line and call goalie interference only? Players can legally screen the goalie from outside the crease. I don't think players should be allowed to go in the crease and screen the goalie, which is what Stoa did. This is what the changed rule says:

I agree. Stafford also made a nice defensive play on Minnesota's 5-on-3 power play to created a shorthanded breakaway. The lines were changed for the MTU series, the series in which Spirko and Stafford each had a hat trick. The lines last night were the same as they were at Houghton. As Hakstol said on last Wednesday's coaches' show, he's trying to generate more scoring through all four lines.

Where are PA and Dubay going to be Friday In Grand Forks?
PCM replied to Goon's topic in Men's Hockey
I think Dubay has kidnapped Goon and stolen his identity. Goon has to be tied up in a closet somewhere with duct tape over his mouth. -
East Stroudsburg's Terwilliger wins Harlon Hill Trophy Digger was robbed!

Chorney Taylor?

It isn't. I think Bacardio's been hanging around Gopher fans too long.

Obviously. That was my point. Did I want Jeff Panzer to win the Hobey in 2001? Certainly. I did everything I could to lobby for his selection. It would have been great to have had a native North Dakotan win it. But I was also realistic enough to understand that with the kind of season Ryan Miller was having, he was going to have a good shot at it, too. I was disappointed that Jeff didn't win the Hobey, but I wasn't surprised that Miller won it. Both were deserving candidates. Unfortunately, there could only be one winner. Maybe the problem is that some people define "robbed" differently than I do.
-
Really? In Miller's 2000-2001 season he: Led the nation with 31 wins Had a .950 save percentage Had a 1.32 goals against average Had 10 shutouts Set the NCAA career shutout mark with 18 in two seasons Got Michigan State into the Frozen Four Robb Stauber wasn't as good as Ryan Miller the year he won the Hobey. In fact, Stauber said, "If you look at who made Michigan State so good, Ryan Miller's name comes to the forefront. There's just no doubting Miller. He put up numbers no one could deny." So I guess whoever Stauber beat out for the Hobey in 1988 was robbed, too.

If playing NDSU makes opposing teams loose, I can understand why other schools would avoid the Bison like the plague.
-
You're right. He scored the game-winner in the second game at SCSU. Hennessy must've forgotten.
-
You do realize, don't you, that western players have won the last five Hobey Baker awards and that four of those five were from the WCHA? Of the 25 Hobey Bakers awarded since it began in 1981, 14 have been western players and 11 have been eastern players. WCHA players have won the Hobey 11 times, including the last four. I'm not sure what your "eastern bias" comment is based on.
-
I don't disagree that Panzer was a very worthy Hobey Baker candidate. But, unfortunately, he was up against Ryan Miller who had an amazing season by any standard. In a normal year, Panzer probably would have won the award hands down. While I would have loved for Jeff to win the Hobey in 2001, there's no denying that Miller was a deserving candidate, too. If Brian Gionta had won it that year, Sioux fans would have had a much stronger case about Panzer being robbed. Panzer had a far better season than Gionta, the darling of Hockey East that season. At any rate, my primary point is that it's useless to compare what players who win the Hobey Baker do after they leave the NCAA ranks.

From the Green Mill, Tim Hennessy is the host with Sioux hockey coach Dave Hakstol. TH: During Saturday
-
I dunno. If Spirko is solid the rest of this year, continues to improve and stays healthy, I could see him as a viable Hobey candidate by the time he's a senior, assuming he's here that long.
-
Ryan Miller was playing regularly for the Buffalo Sabres and had a 6-4-0 record before being injured last month. Jeff Panzer is playing in Switzerland. What's that tell us about who was robbed?

From The Oregonian: Mascot debate stirs deep-seated beliefs There still is little middle ground on NCAA members' use of Native American imagery Appeal or repeal? There's an obvious mistake in what I thought was an overall fair and blanced report on the issues surrounding the NCAA's policy. I sent an e-mail to Ryan White to notify him of the error. Otherwise, I think he is to be commended for providing both sides of the story.

I think some people are forgetting one crucial aspect about what happened with Florida State University. I don't believe for a minute that the Seminoles were quickly removed from the NCAA's list of "hostile and abusive" schools because of political pressure, although it might have played a minor role. FSU was removed because the NCAA shot itself in the the foot when it incorrectly assumed that the Oklahoma Seminole tribe was opposed to FSU's use of the Seminole nickname. If you don't believe me, listen to the tape of the Aug. 5 news conference with Myles Brand, Walter Harrison and Charlotte Westerhaus on the day the policy was announced. After Brand and Harrison touted the NCAA's exhaustive, four-year-long study of the issue, as well as the legal precedents supporting the policy, Westerhaus declared that it didn't matter if the Florida Seminoles supported FSU because other Seminoles elsewhere didn't. The Oklahoma Seminole tribal council promptly made her a liar by passing a resolution of support for FSU by an 18-2 margin. Oops. So much for lengthy, exhaustive studies by learned educators with Ph.D.'s. The NCAA didn't even have the basic facts straight when it implemented the policy. It almost had to let FSU off the hook because of the negative PR storm caused by the actions of the Florida and Oklahoma Seminoles. Brand and company were only too happy to rid themselves of that mess to avoid further embarrassment. That's why they were forced to invent the "support of a namesake tribe" standard when they initially claimed that such support didn't matter. Does anyone seriously believe that the NCAA cares about what a Republican governor and Republican members of Congress think about its policy, a policy that was obviously designed as a poke in the eye to conservatives everywhere? They probably had a good laugh at the criticism from politicians on the right. It was only when the Seminole tribes, their leaders and the media turned on the NCAA that the association beat a hasty retreat. Once FSU was off the list, Utah and Central Michigan were practically assured of successful appeals. That being said, I do think it would help UND if North Dakota's congressional delegation was more vocal in its support of the university. Although Kupchella has implied that the delegation is helping behind the scenes, it would be nice if their constituents had at least some idea of how they were helping. It would also be nice if Conrad, Dorgan and Pomeroy showed North Dakota voters that they cared about the issue and were paying attention to it. And, for the record, Gov. John Hoeven has publicly criticized the NCAA's policy.

Stafford is tied for eighth nationally in goal scoring and tied for first in shorthanded goals. I'd say that he's having a good year.

Here's an article about Toews and Team Canada.

Yes, but you have to keep in mind who's pulling you in.

You're right. Paukovich has a grand total of three assists in 16 games. I wonder if one of those isn't the CC goal he deflected in on Saturday? You'd think that with all the injuries DU has had to their forwards, Paukovich would be providing more offensive production.
