  1. I could easily hear it over the radio, too.
  2. Man, we just can't be taking penalties in a one-goal game in the third period.
  3. ...on a date? To the bathroom? Ballistic?
  4. A hockey player who's father was the president of the Flandreau-Santee Sioux tribe in South Dakota at the time those words were said. He was also a hockey player whose Sioux friends and relatives had no problem attending games in Engelstad Arena.
  5. That's funny. Mike's like the kid who kicks the dog every day and then can't understand why the dog decides to bite him.
  6. I don't think "everyone" agrees that lacrosse is a good idea. I suspect that most readers of this board agree with you. From my perspective, you were the one attempting to end the discussion on differing ideas. I was not dismissing the idea out of hand. You were. My point is that hockey is a fringe sport in many areas of the country. In college athletics, it's a niche sport, but a sport at which UND excels and has been very successful. I doubt that lacrosse was an entrenched sport in every region in which it's now being played and enjoying success. And yet, UND had been around for more than 50 years before it made the commitment to seriously enter the ranks of big-time college hockey. You can't compare then with now as far as athletic budgets go. The first full-time UND hockey coach was paid an annual salary of $3,500. That's a drop in the bucket now, but back then, it was a major expense. I don't know whether lacrosse is a good fit for UND, but I am willing to entertain the possiblity. I can see that in some ways, it might make sense as an option for UND to explore is if it has potential as a revenue-generating sport. You're right. I apologize for that remark. I assumed too much. Sorry.
  7. He does that quite often. He's also called it the best college hockey site on the Web.
  8. If UND loses its appeal and if the NCAA allows William and Mary to remain The Tribe, perhaps the Fighting Sioux could become The Mob.
  9. I have to disagree. We also have Chippers.
  10. Free at last! I'm not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to discuss Toews and Kessel if they want to. I'm just saying that I personally get tired of hearing about it, which means that I don't spend any time reading those threads.
  11. I think you're right. But regardless of who legally owns the Ralph, the NCAA won't hold any playoff events there as long as the logos remain.
  12. I get sick of the Toews vs. Kessel threads myself. I totally agree that there have been a lot of inane threads on this board related to the Gophers. But I don't think this is one of them because it is legitimate news. And for the reasons dagies mentioned, it's worth calling it to peoples' attention.
  13. I happen to know that you break down in tears every time you see one of those Capital One commercials with the unemployed barbarians.
  14. There was a time when it wasn't. Plus, when UND started it's hockey program in 1946, a lot of people said the university was nuts for thinking it could compete with schools like Minnesota and Michigan. Good thing we didn't listen to them, eh? Hockey is and always has been an expensive sport to play because of the facilities and equipment required. You needed money back then just like you need it now. It made sense to me. But then, I don't see the world through green and gold glasses.
  15. We can't post threads about news from opposing WCHA teams? Who made that rule?
  16. Do you ever get tired of being wrong?
  17. Tonight on the Sioux coaches' show. Hakstol said that Smaby is "day to day" because of injuries. He hasn't practiced this week. They won't know until tomorrow if he'll play against Bemidji.
  18. From the Green Mill, Tim Hennessy is the host with Sioux hockey coach Dave Hakstol. TH: The Sioux men this weekend play their first ever home-and-home series, playing Bemidji State there on Friday and Saturday here. The Sioux are shorthanded in practice this week because of injuries and players going the World Juniors. Can you give us an update on how Jonathan Toews is doing with Team Canada? DH: So far, so good. After the first scrimmage, we
  19. Chocolate-covered potato chips. They're wonderful.
  20. No, Vikings were not of Scandanavian (sic) descent, they were Scandinavians. As the Wikipedia definition notes: In other words, all Scandinavians from a certain time period are collectively known as the Viking people. No, it isn't. It refers to the Sioux warriors who are long gone from the Dakotas. In reality, the word "Fighting" and the Sioux warrior shown in the logo serve to limit and define to whom the name "Fighting Sioux" refers. It's not you or anyone who's alive today. Do you think that when people today refer to "Vikings," they're talking only about the guys in the sailing ships with the horned helmets? No. As the definition Mako posted makes clear, the Vikings are considered a race of Scandinavian people.
  21. But "Go Gophers!" is even more offensive to me!
  22. And now, a few words from your omnipotent catalyst for social change, the NCAA:
  23. The Vikings were Scandinavian people. The Scandinavians still are people. Just because the pirating and pillaging Vikings no longer exist, it doesn't mean that Scandinavians ceased to exist. There are more similarities here than differences. Just as the stereotypical Viking warrior used in the Minnesota Vikings logo no longer exists, neither does the Sioux warrior depicted in UND's Fighting Sioux logo.
  24. Did you even bother to read the entry to which you posted the link? It doesn't say what you seem to think it does.
  25. I don't have any problem with Slappy's hockey opinions. I do think it's a bit much when opposing teams' fans show up here after their team beats the Sioux and then proceed to lecture us in condescending tones about what we can and can't complain about.
