  1. Enrollment isn't the measure, it's the number of kids trying out. There's almost 70 peewees in Moorhead. How many do you think will be on the roster at 11th grade? They aren't about to split Moorhead into 2 schools. The stat they showed us was that 80-90% of all the the youth hockey players in Minnesota will never make their high school hockey team.
  2. This is a complex dynamic. I agree with you to some degree, but the regional media matters here. A lot. We criticize and laugh at them from time to time, but The Terry V audio reveals the narrative that UND will be fighting against. Everything is filtered through the MVFC/Summit prism of border states on the I-29/I-90 corridor. That dominates the media messaging, and it will only get worse with USD and Omaha. People grow up with Big Ten and the MVFC/Summit (formerly NCC). The marketing department will have its work cut out for it to push through that to get comparable media hits.
  3. If Douple doesn't try everything in his power to lure UND away from the Big Sky he wouldn't be doing his job IMHO. That seems like a given with the Summit transience now, and historically. I agree with Geaux, I would be shocked if UND accepted. If I'm a yote fan, I'm far more concerned about what would happen if the Big Sky offered NDSU a spot. Again, given the state of both conferences, it seems to me far more likely NDSU would accept a hypothetical Big Sky offer, than UND accepting Summit/MVFC. Not that either scenario is likely to happen.
  4. In this case, "commitment level" for Douple would have to be a probability that an offer from another league is coming and/or a potential timeframe. The dilemma for Douple then becomes does he reach out proactively to schools he'd rather not get in bed with, or wait until his hand is forced?
  5. I'm not sure that matters as much now as it did at the beginning of the transition. The easier path to the national tournament trumps that IMHO. The big problem that it does present is stability. Douple needs an accurate measure of the commitment level of the remaining schools. For the lukewarm schools, Douple needs a plan which could be implemented the moment say, an Oakland wants to leave.
  6. 19 wins 20 losses Not something that looks great on a coaching resume. But I'm sure he has great football credentials, has spent many hours at practice, and has poured over hours of film, so don't anyone out there disagree with his gameplan.
  7. Considering Muss' record as head coach of this program, I don't think you are in any position to attack someone's critique of the gameplan. Film study, hours at practice, and football creditials have failed Muss thus far. And yes, I did use the word "fail" there. If this program leaves the Great West without at least sharing a conference title...that's failure in my book.
  8. With USD at home, it seems Poly is in the driver's seat. If UCD weren't down this year, I'd like them at home vs Poly. Not this year though. If Poly does't get beat in the next 2 weeks, the last 2 weeks of the season won't have much meaning.
  9. Some key players had an off game today. I'm not gonna make any broad, sweeping generalizations about what kind of season or careers they may or may not have, just a bad day. I am not exactly being profound here, but the bottom line is, you just can't lose conference games at home. I don't care if it is the Great West or Big Sky. If you consider to be one of those teams that trades off with Montana as conference champion, you must win at home. Best get into that habit now.
  10. I don't know either, I was referencing this: .
  11. I think I'd rather follow the NDSU scheduling path than the SDSU brutality. Schedule winnable games at home, finish with no more than 3 conference losses, and take your chances with the playoff selections. Based on last year NDSU is in a position where, depending of course how the rest of the ranked teams shake out, they may have 3 games to give.
  12. "From the for-what-it’s-worth file, SDSU has played the 117th-most difficult schedule in Division I to this point, according to the Sagarin Ratings. NDSU is 210th in strength of schedule, last in the Valley. (The point: The Bison made good use of their larger budget in terms of crafting a schedule.)"-For what it's worth from Terry V in the Argus Leader.
  13. I'd hate to see Moorhead (USA Hockey) not be able to schedule the GF teams. Scheduling is difficult enough as it is.

    2012 Recruiting

Let's say Mollberg tore up his ACL. Ethical dilemma: does UND honor the offer, or pull it (especially since Mollberg's commit seems dependent on the Iowa situation) to sign another QB? Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of a Mollberg injury. The referenced quote just made me think of this interesting dilemma.
  15. Damn, has it been so long that this is a reasonable question?

    2012 Recruiting

Ira-what do you figure the over/under on years Thornton will wait behind Jensen before he transfers out of the AC?
  17. I'll enjoy re-reading this exchange on Sept 22, after the first conference game.
  18. The nice thing about a disagreement like this is we can find out exactly whom is delusional by verifying from Mollberg if there was "a single mention" about UND on a recruiting visit. Stay tuned... Unless of course Mollberg became an untrustworthy liar the moment he chose not to attend NDSU.
  19. That's a quote pulled straight from the living room of an "official" bison recruiting visit.
  20. Officially? The league released the (official) conference schedules already, which included UND. They are "officially" in the league on those dates, until the league "officially" kicks them out, not the other way around.
  21. If Dale would have been told back then that the program would in fact be going D1, and into the Big Sky, who thinks he would have left? Just a thought.
  22. Stat from the Herald game preview: • UND has lost five straight Great West Conference games Can anyone remember the last time that happened? (obviously i'm thinking NCC here as well)

  25. Why QBs get drafted: Lefevour was a Sophomore. Season Stats :2007: Became just the second player in NCAA history (Vince Young, Texas) to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season
