Coming into the second Montana game last season, UND was 16-7 overall and just a game out of first place. Since that game, UND is 5-18.
-
UND has now lost its last 14 games in a row away from the Betty--12 on the road and two at neutral sites.
-
Not a player defection, but assistant coach Marty Rodgers is leaving to go back to his alma mater--Southern Illinois.
-
There are reports that Nielson held a team meeting on Friday, to inform his players he had turned down USD's offer.
-
This has been discussed ad nauseam, but what UND has heretofore been willing to spend with Jones at the helm should not be confused with what it is capable of spending with a different, and better coach.
-
Walthall and MSU-Moorhead moved to 12-1 with a win over UMD tonight.
-
Per Tom Miller, Tobin has committed to UND.

6. Plus 9 points and 11 boards. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a triple-double or two this year.
-
UND up 59-44 after three quarters.
-
UND up 38-24 at the half over NDSU. A big second quarter for the home team after being down 2 at the end of the first quarter.
-
Of UND's top nine scorers right now, only Hooker played in last year's NDSU game. It's pretty incredible how dramatically UND's roster has changed for the second year in a row.

Clearly UND late season was far better than UND early season. Of course, I guess you could say the same for USD, at least until the Illinois St. game. Looking forward to the Sept. 17 matchup. Traditionally, USD has done quite poorly when playing in Grand Forks.

This is what SFI had to say about recruiting and the quarterback situation:
-
USD looked good at times, and awful at times. I saw them play Youngstown St. in Vermillion, and USD couldn't seem to do anything right. They did have a really nice five-game stretch, but then laid an egg at Illinois St. to finish the season, losing 46-0. Losing at Illinois St. is no shame, but losing that badly isn't exactly the way you want to head into the off season.

Bernstine? Or maybe Collins?
-
When you consider how much the program was struggling 10 years ago (sub-.500 record and home losses to both Mayville St. and Minot St.), that's a sad commentary on the state of the program, but the attendance numbers don't lie.
-
Murray has committed to UND.
-
SFI just confirmed that it is Hartford.
-
Per a Maurice tweet, there is a new commitment. I'm guessing Hartford?
-
USD beat the Gophers today. That Craig Smith guy can coach a little bit, huh?
-
Football Scoop is now reporting that Babers is headed to Syracuse.

Here's an outside-the-box suggestion--Dave Thorson. I imagine formerly working under Clem Haskins is problematic for many, but he's a ND native and has had incredible success at the high school level. He's also sent several players to UND over the years, including current players Crandall and Collins. I believe he could recruit the twin cities area very well. Not sure he'd even be willing to leave the cities after all these years, though.

My fear with a hypothetical Brian Faison-led search for a basketball coach is that he'd simply wait for people to apply unsolicited, and let the now infamous "process" play itself out. While I certainly don't know this to be true, there were some allegations that Faison did not reach out to anybody after Mussman was let go. If true, a similar inaction in the search for a new basketball coach likely wouldn't end up as well as the football search did. Somebody like Walthall probably isn't going to simply apply. He needs to be convinced by the a.d. that this is the right move for him.
