Ok, if you didn't get an email from me and you've played before, it's because I don't have your address. So if you want to play or know anyone else who does, either post here or send me a message. For anyone new who wants to play and doesn't know the details...for the past 2 years on the Sunday after the Final Five, Sioux fans and Gopher fans have gotten together for a "friendly" yet competitive game of hockey in Minneapolis. I have organized the Sioux team in the past and paid for the team up front, and the players pay me on the day of the game (I think it's been around $10/player before). If you stiff me I will hunt you down, or in the case of Brianv, you'll be lucky and run into me at the bar on my 21st birthday and slip me some cash. Last year everyone went out after the game for some food and drinks and to watch the NCAA selections, which hopefully everyone will be up for again this year.

Well, if people are up for it I suppose I could organize the team once again. I don't think everyone checks this board regularly, so I'll send out some emails. This game really would be a lot more fun each year if the SS.com team could figure out a way to practice together. Kind of hard to do though when everyone is from different towns/states. I suppose a good coach would find a way huh? Maybe I'll start pulling the goalie with 5 minutes left in the game.

Me too, he's a big guy. Unfortunately, the real fun apparently started after we left. Poor Wookie. I think he needs an intervention for his drunken behavior. Who wants to foot my bill to Buffalo to perform it? In the defense of all stupid drunks though, that could have happened to anyone. Hell, I had to have pretty extensive knee surgery after Springfest last year....

Actually, I don't know why people are upset by this. I think it's hilarious, and the first time I heard it I thought it was actually pretty clever. Every game I wish that the U.S. fans were more like the Canadian fans. They are passionate about hockey and they get into the game. Last night there were Canada fans that were trying to get the U.S. crowd into the game by chanting U.S.A! They would fit in well with college hockey with their constant taunting. (Although I have a feeling that the chanting of Montoya didn't come anywhere close to what he experiences when Michigan plays Michigan State.) I don't think they've been classless at all. In fact, I've had nothing but positive interactions with Canadian fans. And apparently I was booed on the jumbotron! I didn't even know it until Redwing informed me later between periods. That just made me laugh. I have no problem saying "GO CANADA GO!"

All I know is that I got to wear my USA jersey for a whole 3 days, and now it must be laid to rest. Why you ask? Because The Great One signed it. Pictures of me with the Stanley Cup, pictures and an autograph by Wayne Gretsky. If only the U.S. could have repeated this would be the greatest hockey weekend of my life!

I'm with you guys. Go Canada go! Ovechkin is the cockiest SOB I have seen. I want to see him laying face down next to the Canadian crease crying like he did on Christmas Day when the U.S. scored a shorthanded goal.

I agree. We were talking about how Canada and the US have another thought coming if they think they are the only two contenders for the gold. On another note though, those friendship medals must have worked....the game wasn't anywhere near as chippy as the Belarus-Slovakia game.

Just got back from the Sweden-Russia game in East Grand Forks. Sweden was able to hang on for the first 2 periods, with shots being pretty even and Russia up by 2 goals. But by the 3rd period, you started seeing just how good Russia is. They're fast with good, crisp passing and fantastic moves. Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin for Russia, the #1 and #2 NHL draft picks last summer, were highly noticeable. They were all over the ice. I believe Russia ended up with 3 power play goals. We went to the Slovakia - Belarus exhibition game in Grafton tonight to take stats. What a chippy game. Belarus and Slovakia both got a 5-min major for fighting, and 30 seconds later Belarus gets another 5-min major for slashing. Slovakia had a 4 1/2 minute 5x3, until they took a penalty in the middle of it. One good fight, many attempts at fights. It all turned ugly when a Belarus player got his stick up high and had a Slovakian player pouring blood on the ice, looked like from his nose. Final score: Slovakia-3, Belarus-1

Which is why I decided to rent out my roommate's room to a couple college boys for the price of our rent....$25. We're not all out to bleed hockey fans dry!
