  1. I posted on Wisconsin's refusal to play us in my

    blog

They will not play North Dakota because their athletic teams are named for a group of people, the Dakota (or Sioux) Indians. At the same time, Wisconsin's athletic teams are also named for a group of people.

This is very hypocritical of them. ???

  2. One of UND's verbal recruits, Mike Cichy who plays for the NTDP has left the team, it is on westerncollegehockey.blogspot.com. Not sure what he is going to do, but it was rumored earlier he was going to play major juniors, let's hope this isn't the case.

I hope he does not go play major juniors. It would stink to lose this guy. His name is listed on the USA hockey website. But I do not know if that means anything.

  3. I do not like play in games at all. :silly: Every team should be required to take the same path to the championship. The current system works just fine. Leave it as it is. Play ins are awful. As has already been mentioned, play ins would help eliminate the Holy Cross type events.

  4. Minot has choked at state, that's true. It is unfair though, and shows a typical east tool bias, to say that the east teams have been "better." The 2005 team comes to mind as a good example as does the 1998 team with Quinn Fylling, John Grubb and Brian Haaland. During the years, they have beaten the east and some Minnesota teams during the regular season and then tanked at state. Maybe the east tools have never heard of the Boston Red Sox or the Chicago Cubs or the 1998 Minnesota Vikings or the Chicago White Sox, etc. The franchises described have all had teams that could have and should have won it all but consistently choked for many, many years.....until recently for some. Whether it's a mind set or coaching or some nebulous intangible, it's a fact that they've bombed at state. It has not been because the Minot teams have not been as good as the east. Last year and this year that may be true but in most years it is not true and it's been that way since Blais was in Minot. In high school our very average, Jeff Bredahl-less, Tim McIver-less, 1982 MHS team beat GFRR pretty soundly to the "shock" of the east. In high school in 1985, our MHS squad beat a Mike LaMoine-led GFRR squad at state. The point is that the west has had good teams. I think Minot needs to get a Bruce Olson/Dean Blais type of coach and Bismarck needs to get a Peluso-like coach back and Jamestown needs to get a Jim Barger-type coach back. Some of the Minot players these days sound like retards but I sure hope the ones remaining on the team read this site for motivation.

Minot has had some several defections up to the SJHL too such as Ben Keup, Chris Cartier, Brian Ferguson and others. Samson used to complain about that all the time.

A nice write up on the subject. Minot tanks at State. Pure and simple. For whatever reason. I hope them having a new coach will help eliminate some of the apparent mental issues.

  5. I had to go to practice when PTI was on so I didn't see it. What all did they say.

One of the guys asked if Lindsay Jacobellis was in net (because she had just crashed her snowboard again at the X games. I can not remember all of it but it was pretty funny.

  6. I hope he has a lot of Sharpies ready to sign for ANOTHER Consolation Championship puck!! You might get $3.50 on Ebay for that lemon.... :silly:

I am pretty sure Kraft will not be going to state this year. And I would not count on Minot winning Consolation; I think they have a good shot at winning their first game.

  7. As someone already posted, the turn around was Kaip's helmet off, gloves thrown down beating on the UAA player that marked the start of the up sweep!!

    *they're all college games*

Not really. I was not counting the Sioux's win over the US under 18 team.

  8. Some scores from tonight from Bob Gillen's website:

    Century 3 Bottineau 1

    Williston 3 Hazen 2

    Minot 1 Bismarck High 1

If Minot and Bismarck both win out they finish in a tie for the West Region. But Minot holds the tiebreaker because of the head to head records.

The Minot vs Bismarck game was a heck of a game. It was very intense and fast. Also, plenty of hitting. Both sides had good chances. Bismarck took the lead towards the end of the second period. But Minot scored right away to tie the game just before intermission.

There were no rabbits thrown on the ice this year. I heard that they found several bags of rabbits under the stands though. And I know at least one (probably more) person got kicked out.
